Chapter 464: Loopholes in Dao Oaths
“Lastly…” Aksai said, his voice quieter now.
“I don’t think his dreams of unifying the demonic powers in the Wild Devil Lands are in the past, no matter what he claims. He’s using the safety of his sect and children as a logical reason to smooth things over with the Blackblood Sect.
But someone like him wouldn’t just kill his aspirations just because he has no hope of advancing anymore. I don’t think he cares about his children, sect or the demonic faction for that matter.”
The Blackblood Lord started liking Aksai even more as he listened to the latter’s logical reasoning.
There were many so-called prodigies in the Dadangar Subcontinent. Some of them had ridiculous talent in Spirit cultivation, while others had special physiques.
However, a Spirit cultivator who could look at things from a broad point of view was a rarity. It was because most Spirit cultivators would develop a certain ego and sense of superiority as they progressed further in their cultivation journey.
But Aksai was still grounded. He still felt fear and apprehension toward things and cultivators he didn’t know about. Those feelings made him suspicious of everything, which was a good thing in a cutthroat cultivation world.
“Then what do you think about Yaksha Lord’s dao oath? Do you think it was fake?” the Blackblood Lord asked, looking at Aksai with expectations.
Aksai shook his head as he replied.
“No. I don’t think he can break a dao oath. But maybe… he’s found a loophole. Some hidden path around the restriction.
Then again… I… I can’t say for sure. This was my first time witnessing someone take a dao oath. So I’m not a good judge of the whole situation.”
Aksai’s eyes drifted to the cup of tea in front of him. He stared into the liquid, watching his own reflection ripple on the surface.
“It’s just… it looked to me that he was too confident for a dying man who drank poison,” he said, almost to himself.
“His apology, his words, his actions… They were too perfect. And that’s exactly what makes the whole thing suspicious. Spontaneity and perfection rarely go hand in hand.
Maybe he was trying to do something else when he got out, thinking you and the Frostbound Lord would stay trapped in the Holy Land Torel for a long time, with the possibility of your dying a few days later after his exit. He must have had his own designs.
However, he changed his plans swiftly once he got to know that you two had managed to come out. Since he couldn’t advance, he chose to retreat instead of defending his previous position. This… this is a very dangerous trait to have in one’s enemy.
And since he made you take the dao oath, he’ll have enough breathing room to do whatever he wants. By cooperating with the rest of the demonic sects, he’s also managed to keep the righteous sect lords at bay.
All of this points to only one thing in my opinion—Yaksha Lord is setting up a stage to do something bigger.”
The Blackblood Lord didn’t say anything right away. He simply studied Aksai, a thoughtful look in his eyes.
For a moment, all that could be heard was the quiet crackle of a candle flame in the corner and the soft clink of ceramic as Aksai gently placed his cup back on the table.
The Blackblood Lord then let out a soft chuckle, shaking his head with a faint smile as he looked at Aksai.
“You’ve got a sharp mind, boy,” he said, the warmth in his voice clear. “Not many people your age can look at things this clearly. Most would be too shaken or too proud to see past the surface.”
Aksai didn’t respond right away, but he gave a small nod, accepting the praise in silence.
The old man’s smile slowly faded, replaced by a colder, more serious expression. His eyes narrowed slightly as he spoke again.
“But you’re right,” he said, voice heavier now. “That wretched old dog is planning something. He’s not the type to let go of things so easily. Do you know…” he paused for a moment and looked Aksai in the eye, “there are situations where a dao oath can become… invalid?”
Aksai’s brows rose. He hadn’t expected that. “Invalid?” he asked, then slowly shook his head. “I’ve never heard of that, Master.”
The Blackblood Lord gave a slow, knowing smile. It was the kind of smile that hid too much behind it. “One of the known loopholes,” he said calmly, “is when the person who took the oath crosses a major realm. The dao oath might still bind their words and spirit, but its weight becomes uncertain if the oath doesn’t clearly include terms that apply beyond their current cultivation stage.”
He paused and leaned back, sipping his tea again. “So unless the oath directly addresses this, it leaves a very big opening. A hole wide enough for someone like the Yaksha Lord to slip through.”
Aksai sat up straighter, his face growing more serious and his eyes wide open in surprise. “Master, are you saying… the Yaksha Lord might have a way to enter the Nascent Soul Realm?”
The Blackblood Lord let out a dry laugh and shrugged.

“Who knows? I’m just saying it’s a possibility. It’s not like I know exactly what that old bastard is doing.
But if someone like him is desperate enough to drink poison in front of other Core Formation Lords, then he might have already taken steps to survive in the long run.”
He looked down at his teacup for a moment, then sighed deeply. His tone grew quieter, but not any softer.
“Anyway, don’t think too much about it. Breaking into the Nascent Soul Realm is no small feat. Even with resources and tricks, very few succeed.
He might have found something that gives him hope. But whether he can really step into the fourth Spirit realm… well, that’s something we’ll have to wait and see. Or rather… you will have to see.”
The Blackblood Lord then looked straight at Aksai, his gaze sharp.
“I’m dying soon. So it won’t matter to me what happens after I’m gone. But you… and Haitin… you two will still be here. You need to be careful.”
He tapped his fingers on the wooden table again, his voice turning grim.
“The Yaksha Lord is like a snake hiding in the bushes. You won’t see him coming until it’s too late. You can’t bait him. And when he does come out on his own… it’s only because he’s ready to bite.”
He gave a small pause, then added with a sigh.
“And that man… he holds grudges. Deep ones. If he survives the poison, he might come looking for you.
After all, it was your little scheme that pulled us out of the Holy Land Torel. You ruined something for him.
That kind of man doesn’t forget.”
