Chapter 56: Discipleship Invitation Token
Aksai couldn’t just randomly change to a better cultivation technique on a whim, right in the middle of his current cultivation realm.
Usually, one only opted for better cultivation techniques than the current ones they were practicing after they broke through their existing cultivation realm and entered a new realm.
However, the Stellar Greenwood Tantra was not subjected to these restrictions.
This was because the Basic Greenwood Tantra was derived from the Stellar Greenwood Tantra. As such, there were no issues or side effects if Aksai were to shift to the Stellar Greenwood Tantra.
Stellar Greenwood Tantra was perfectly suited for Aksai’s current needs. It also had a positive effect on the elemental affinities displayed by his Spirit Root. His cultivation speed was surely going to benefit from practicing the improved version of his existing cultivation technique.
“I was thinking of buying an Advanced Greenwood Tantra from Wilben City’s black market in the future when the Lakir family falls from its current position. I guess I don’t have to do that anymore. Stellar Greenwood Tantra is better than Advanced Greenwood Tantra,” Aksai clutched the jade slip in his hands firmly as he thought to himself.
“I don’t have time to study this Tantra. I’ll look into it when I settle the matters outside.”
Aksai kept the jade slip back into its wooden box before storing it away. He then took out the next item from Lian’s storage ring that he found interesting.
This was a gem-like slab that had a few characters written on the inside of the gem in an old language, almost as if the gem was made by combining the two gems together. However, there was no segmented line that would suggest that the gem was a combination of two gems stacked against each other.
“This,” Aksai narrowed his eyes on the gem-like palm-sized slab in his hand before sending his Spirit Sense inside it. In the next moment, information related to the gem popped into his mind out of nowhere.
[ Purple River Sect’s discipleship invitation token. Those who bear this token will be admitted to the Purple River Sect as inner disciples irrespective of their age, status, and other distinguishing characteristics. ]
Aksai raised his eyebrows in surprise when he realized that the gem-like slab that he was holding was an invitation token given to some prestigious families by the Purple River Sect. The token was also given to some talented inner and outer disciples of the sect so that they could pass it down to their children if they ever decided to leave the sect and raise families of their own.
The status of an inner disciple was obviously more profound than that of an outer disciple. If someone used the invitation token to become an inner disciple of the Purple River Sect, it would mean that they wouldn’t have to struggle to complete tasks for the sect for years on end like the outer disciples, just to stand a chance at becoming an inner disciple.
The Purple River Sect’s name held sway in the hearts of many low-level Spirit cultivators and mortals. The sect was like the peak that most couldn’t even dream of seeing with their own eyes, much less climbing.
For example, Jasmine’s father did not hesitate to go back on his words and cancel the marriage arrangement he had with Madam Reta in order to marry his daughter to Aksai once he learned that the young man his daughter had selected as a future husband was an outer disciple of the Purple River Sect.
If Reman Linoyi were to know that Aksai had the invitation token from the Purple River Sect, which would make him an outer disciple of the sect, he would not hesitate to change his decision again. He was willing to lose his face and risk it all to get Aksai as his future son-in-law.
And since an inner disciple’s status was a lot higher than that of an outer disciple, it would be Reman paying dowry to Aksai and Aunt Reta, and not the other way around.
Aksai looked at Lian’s lifeless form with a face that practically screamed “I’m impressed.” He didn’t know that the man was all set to join the Rokur Kingdom’s most prominent organization and had prepared everything in advance for it.
“This invitation token could be said to be more precious than the Stellar Greenwood Tantra that I have obtained. At least in the eyes of those drifting cultivators with no background.
But to me, this token is useless,” Aksai thought to himself and sighed, shaking his head. He had no plans to join a sect, no matter how difficult the situation in both counties got.
If Aksai hadn’t inherited the Everwood farm, he might have considered joining the Purple River Sect. With the situation in both counties deteriorating rapidly, seeking refuge under the sect’s protection could have been a wise choice, waiting for the storm to pass.
However, having access to the Everwood farm gave Aksai a significant advantage over others, providing safety and opportunities for prosperity. Moreover, he preferred not to be under the constant surveillance of the sect’s Array Formations. If he were to vanish within the sect’s grounds, even the Core Formation experts would come seeking answers about him.
“Hmm. I’ll probably sell this token to someone else. I’m sure I’ll earn a ton by auctioning it off,” Aksai mumbled as he gave the token one more look before storing it away. Though the token held no value for him, he was certain that many cultivators and their families would eagerly bid for it, considering it a prized possession.
After all, being associated with the Purple River Sect was deemed a great blessing by low-ranking cultivators and their families. Even the mighty Wilben family would spare no effort to acquire such an invitation token.
Aksai was convinced that the Lakir family had paid a hefty price to obtain the token. They would have likely attended the Purple River Sect’s auction events to secure Lian’s entry into the sect.
Lian was on the verge of joining the Purple River Sect after being dealt with by Haisha Lakir. He would have successfully completed the transition with the trump cards he had prepared.
If only a certain Spirit farmer hadn’t become entangled in the conflict between Haisha and Lian, Lian would have eventually become an inner disciple of the Purple River Sect.
“Anyway, what else has this privileged young man gifted me?” Aksai pondered to himself as he glanced at Lian’s lifeless form, a hint of greed flickering in his eyes.
Thankfully, the Everwood farm didn’t have any other witnesses observing Aksai at the present. It was his safe place. So he could just be himself and be as greedy as he wanted.
