Affinity:Chaos - Chapter 1807
Chapter 1807: A Surprise Visit
Grey’s figure appeared at the entrance of the cave. Seeing the mist covered hill, he couldn’t help but spread out his spiritual senses, examining the array. When he was brought here the first time, he was barely able to cover the hill with his spiritual senses due to the array. Before refining the blood essence, he had a class with Jacob Vaergahl about arrays and the latter did his best to teach him about what he knew about array formations. This was one of Grey’s biggest gains. In fact, he didn’t even feel the need to explore this secret world again as he didn’t think there was anything they could offer that could match the two things he received from Jacob.
Taking his attention back, he focused on the reason he hurried out of the cave, there was an intruder. Squinting his eyes, he looked in the direction where an Old man dressed in blue robes could be seen. The Old man was cautiously advancing through the formation and was very close to getting to where Grey was standing.
‘Could this still be thinking of ambushing me?’
The reason such a thought flashed through Grey’s head was from the repeated attempt by the Old man in blue to stop him from entering. Grey was certain that if the Old man in blue was a Sovereign, he would’ve never agreed to allow Grey enter.
After some thought, Grey sat down cross-legged, waiting for the Old man in blue to pass through the mist. He took this time to once again study his body. What he was most curious about was why his consciousness was almost shattered. If not for sensing the presence of someone else, he would not have exited the cave by now. Given the pace of the Old man in blue, he would need a few more hours before successfully passing through the formation.
Shutting his eyes, he focused on his consciousness.
Inside the mist.
The Old man in blue was cautiously advancing, he would occasionally pause and make some deductions, moving only after a few more tries to confirm if he was correct.
His face was dark, and from his eyes, it was clear that he was a little exhausted.
“Damn it! When will it end?” The Old man in blue cursed as he looked at the somewhat endless mist. He didn’t know which way was north or south. Looking at the mist, he spat in annoyance and a wooden compass appeared on his palm.
Holding the compass on his left palm, he used his right arm to make a series of hand seals before a strange energy spread out of the compass in all directions. A few seconds later, the arrow on the compass shook before pointing straight ahead. The Old man in blue walked straight through the mist, unsure of what laid ahead of him. He walked for a few meters before his vision suddenly changed. Squinting his eyes due to the sudden brightness that assaulted his eyes, he looked around and saw the entrance to a cave, resting his head to the back, he burst out into a peal of laughter. From his voice one could easily tell that he was beyond excited. This was something previous generations had been trying to achieve for thousands of years, in the end, he was the one who broke through to this place.
Feeling immense pride, he took a step forward, but then paused. The reason for this was because there was a figure sitting cross-legged by the side of the entrance of the cave. Recalling Grey’s figure, the Old man in blue froze, not daring to make a move.
As the Old man in blue’s eyes locked on Grey, Grey’s eyes were also on the Old man. The Old man could even tell that Grey was purposely waiting for him here from how he was staring at him. Unsure of what to do, the Old man didn’t say a word.
“I didn’t expect Senior to continue with his attempt to break into my Ancestor’s final resting place. I know this is your territory, but…” Grey didn’t need to finish his statement, the Old man in blue what Grey implied with his ‘but’.
“Young Lord… you see… it’s ummm…. it’s…” The Old man in blue wanted to explain, but he couldn’t find the right words.
“Speak properly.” Grey frowned when he saw how the Old man was acting. From the looks of it, the Old man is clearly scared of him.
The Old man calmed himself, feeling a bit embarrassed that he acted in such a manner in front of Grey. This made him hate Grey even more. If Grey never appeared everything would have gone fine for them. Of course, he didn’t think of the potential danger of their family being wiped out after offending the City Lord. Every individual in the McCall Family knew that the only reason they escaped unscathed was thanks to Grey’s intervention… with the exception of the Old man who only saw Grey as someone who came to take away their heaven sent opportunity. To this Old man, Grey was more of an enemy than the City Lord’s Manor.
Although the Old man thought of Grey as an enemy, he still explained the reason behind him breaking through the formation.
“Huh?” Grey was taken aback by what he heard, “The City Lord’s Manor wants to act against your family because of me?”
Grey didn’t think that the City Lord’s Manor would still try to come after him even after he left. He didn’t even hold them accountable for the attacks, yet they still wanted to attack him?
Snorting coldly, he said, “Come let’s go, I want to see what gave them the guts to want to challenge me.”
The Old man in blue froze, he didn’t expect that Grey would react in this manner. And hearing Grey’s words, he realized that there’s a chance that Grey leaving the City Lord’s Manor unscathed might not be due to his powerful background, but him being powerful himself. The second such a thought flashed through the Old man’s head, he started sweating buckets.
