Chapter 1808: A Visit From The City Lord’s Manor
McCall Family Manor.
In the Manor Hall.
The five remaining Old men were all present, but they weren’t seated in their usual seats in the hall, rather, they were standing obediently as they replied to the questions of the man seated on the main seat.
In front of the Old men was a man who looked to be in his mid forties. This man wore golden robes, his refined features and clothing made it easy to tell that he was from a top force.
“City Lord, it’s not that we don’t want to call him out. It’s just that we can’t go to the place where he’s currently residing.” The Old man in black explained to the City Lord. The person was none other than City Lord Vaughn, who for some reasons reverted back to his younger self. Most of the residents of Raging Flames City knew him with this appearance.
The City Lord wasn’t alone, seated on either side of him was Sir Xavier and Lord Harry, both staring at the Old men from the McCall Family as if they were nothing. Generally speaking, for Sovereigns like them, it was beneath them to visit such a low leveled family. If not for not wanting to offend Grey, they would’ve already ransacked this place until they found him. Unfortunately, doing so will likely draw the ire of Grey, something they clearly aren’t willing to do.
“You’re saying there’s somewhere in your Manor that even you people have no access to?” City Lord Vaughn found this hard to accept. For a family to say that there’s a place in their own manor they can’t access is nothing short of saying; we don’t want you near there.
“I know it’s hard to believe, but it’s the truth. You see, the Young Lord came here in search of his Ancestor’s remains…” The Old man in black explained to City Lord Vaughn.
Hearing the explanation, City Lord Vaughn and Lord Harry exchanged glances, not expecting that a family in their City harbored the remains of a top expert. If even someone as powerful as Grey is drawn to it, then it’s safe to say that whatever was with his so-called Ancestor is quite valuable.
“Why didn’t the City Lord Manor know of this expert dying here?” City Lord Vaughn didn’t expect that such a thing happened in his Raging Flames City.
“It’s been a few thousand years since that expert fell.” The Old man in blue explained.
“Oh, a few thousand years? That explains a lot.” City Lord Vaughn didn’t doubt their words as he had been the City Lord for close to a thousand years now and other than the top experts from Raging Flames Faction, any foreign expert that comes to the City is always noticed by him. This was something created by the old fogies from the Raging Flames Faction. With its help, there’s no way anyone could sneak in without his knowledge, unless they knew about the array formation that was laid out across the City.
‘Such an opportunity has been here since and I missed it.’ City Lord Vaughn felt a bit disappointed. If he had known about this expert’s resting ground being here, he would’ve ransacked it hundreds of years ago. He knew the history of the McCall Family, and although they used to be one of the major forces in the Raging Flames Territory, when he took charge as the City Lord, they had already fallen from glory. It’s still unknown what calamity befell the McCall Family that caused such a drastic decline in their strength.
If City Lord Vaughn knew about this opportunity, he would never have missed it. The reason he came here was to get Grey to follow him in search of a treasure that could boost his strength. Yet one such opportunity, probably even bigger than the one he was still in the middle of planning to obtain.
A thought suddenly came to him. When he first saw Grey, he already felt a bit apprehensive. Now that he came to collect such an opportunity, there’s a chance that within the past few weeks, his strength has grown by leaps and bounds. Lord Harry has been keeping an eye on the McCall Family and knows that Grey hasn’t left the Manor since he came here after leaving the City Lord’s Manor. It has already been so long, so it’s impossible that his strength hasn’t seen another increase. At the thought of this, the heartbeat of City Lord Vaughn increased, a little hint of trepidation appeared in his eyes. One could see the clear and distinct horror as it flashed through the eyes of City Lord Vaughn. Luckily he hid it almost immediately, but not before being sensed by Lord Harry.
Sensing the fear in the eyes of City Lord Vaughn, Lord Harry trembled unconsciously. Anyone or anything that could make even City Lord Vaughn fearful is enough to scare him to death.
“I’d like to take a look at this place. Don’t worry, I have no plans of trying to break in.” City Lord Vaughn reassured them as his figure moved. Although he spoke as if he was making a request, given his status, he didn’t need the McCall’s Family’s permission to move about in the Manor. Even if the McCall Family had an Early stage Sovereign, he still wouldn’t put them in his eyes. Only people as strong as Lord Harry or stronger could draw his attention.
Lord Harry and Sir Xavier followed behind City Lord Vaughn. The Old men from the McCall Family had no other choice, either they followed them there to ensure that they didn’t really try to enter, or they stayed here. Either way, the City Lord was going to the Hill. With no other options, they exchanged glances, all sighing in defeat and pain as they followed behind the City Lord.
The McCall Family being a shadow of what it once was didn’t change the fact that it used to be a top force in the Territory. The leaders of the Family had been cautious, ensuring they didn’t provoke powerful enemies. This is the reason they’ve been able to keep the matters of Jacob Vaergahl’s final resting place a secret for so many years.
