Chapter 1816: Strange Core
The McCall Family Manor.

Grey was standing in an open space, staring at the affinity stone with interest. Inside his body, a foreign energy was trying to attach itself to his core. Realizing how strange the energy was, Grey couldn’t help but feel a little scared. If he had come here a few weeks earlier, there’s a chance he wouldn’t have even sensed the presence of the foreign energy, given how well hidden it was. The only reason he could sense it now was due to the increase in his consciousness. Thanks to whatever happened during the last hours of refining Jacob Vaergahl’s blood essence, his consciousness is stronger than before, the same could be said for his spiritual senses, making it stronger.

Making sure the energy didn’t attach itself to his core, he isolated it inside his body. After confining it within his body, he sent his spiritual senses into the affinity stone. The foreign energy came from within the affinity stone, so if he wanted to find out what was causing it, he needed to investigate the affinity stone.

A minute later.

Grey found where the energy was coming from, and to his shock, there was an empty space under the affinity stone. The space was around a meter wide or so.

Void was laying on Grey’s shoulder, he also sensed the space. Sensing Grey’s gaze, he knew what he wanted and disappeared from view.

‘What’s down there?’ Grey asked.

In the open space under the affinity stone, Void appeared in the dark open space. Other than a faint glowing orb, there was nothing else present.

‘A beast’s core is attached to the end of the string.’

Void’s answer carried some doubts as he stared at the glowing core.

‘A beast’s core? Can you take it out?’ Grey asked.

If a Magical Beast’s core is truly what’s been sucking the essence of the McCall Family members, then there’s a chance that the energy contained within it will be massive.

‘Give me a moment.’

Grey stood close to the affinity stone, he had retracted his palm that was placed on the stone. He didn’t allow it to finish the process as there was no need to. After sending the group from McCall Family away, he withdrew his arm.

A few seconds later, Void’s figure appeared on Grey’s shoulder once more. This time, he was a bit disheveled.

Seeing Void’s state, Grey was curious about what happened underground.

‘It’s slowly gaining sentience.’ Void’s reply shook Grey.

‘You mean the core is gaining sentience?’ He asked, finding it hard to believe that a Magical Beast’s core will gain sentience if left alone.

‘Apparently, after being fed for hundreds of years, it’s starting to gain its own sentience.’ Void answered with a thoughtful look on his face, it was as if he found it strange.

‘Where is it?’ The only way Grey could deal with this issue is if he had the core with him.

Void opened his small mouth and spat out the core.

The second the core appeared outside, the entire McCall Manor felt like it was enveloped by a supreme being, even Grey felt instinctive fear when he saw the Magical Beast’s core. He didn’t dare to act rashly, the energy he felt within the core scared the crap out of him.

‘This… it’s above the Sovereign Plane.’ Grey paused, taking his time to take in the shock he just received. He didn’t expect that the cause of the McCall Family’s problem would be an unknown Magical Beast’s core that has grown above the Sovereign Plane.

Grey tried to grab it, but then his heart sent distress signals to him the closer his hand got close to the core, he didn’t need another warning, he swiftly withdrew his hand as he continued staring at the core.

‘Can it be refined?’ He turned to Void. This core contained a massive amount of energy, of course he doesn’t have any plans of handing it over to the McCall Family. All he promised was to help them deal with the problem of the string attached to their cores. Taking this core away will be doing that, he wasn’t obligated to pass it to them.

‘It’s too potent.’ Void’s reply wasn’t a definitive no, but Grey knew what he meant. The energy contained within the core isn’t something either of them could withstand at the moment.

Thinking about it, Grey didn’t find it odd, after all, this core has been leeching off the cores of every single individual in the McCall Family for hundreds, if not a few thousand years already. There’s a chance that even Half God Plane Elementalists might not be able to use it.

‘If that’s the case, kill off the newly formed sentience. This thing will come in handy in the future.’ Grey didn’t plan to leave a ticking time bomb with him, since he’s taking the core, then whatever sentience was growing needed to be killed off. Although this looked brutal, leaving a being that is stronger than him and will most likely not be within his control in the future is too dangerous for himself and those around him. Just from the core, he could sense tremendous bloodthirstiness.

Void did as told, wiping out the newly formed sentience. He swallowed the core after doing as told. Currently he was the only one who could hold it. The second the sentience was wiped out, the strings connected to the members of the McCall Family were also snapped.

In the main hall of the McCall Manor.

All six Old men were still conversing about Grey potentially being stronger than the City Lord when a massive wave of pressure descended upon them.

“What’s that?!” One of the Old men asked in horror. He was a Peak Venerable, but in the presence of this pressure, he felt like he was a grain of sand. Not just him, but every single member of the McCall Family that has started creating their cores felt like this.

Just as they were afraid someone very powerful was passing by, the Old man in black asked, “Could this be linked to whatever is attached to the other end of the string?”

“Possibly.”

They were still discussing this when they felt like a weight was lifted from their shoulders.

“Huh?” A confused expression appeared on the Old men’s faces.
