Chapter 1006: Digging for Treasure
Seeing her, Lei Chong nearly choked on his breath and almost passed out.
His eyes widened in disbelief as he stared at the police officer, looking at him as though he were an idiot.
Noticing his gaze, the police officer raised his chin in disdain and said, “You think I’m a fool? Let you go and get me expelled from the station? Do you know how hard it is to find work these days? Are you going to pay for my social security?”
Lei Chong’s eyes reddened in fury. What an idiot!
Helping him would have meant a windfall of money. He didn’t need to work for a living.
His mother and grandfather had always told the townspeople that one big score was worth ten small ones; a year of work could mean ten years of lounging around.
Why didn’t that work for him?
He was still just a child, and his emotional control was poor. With a loud wail, he burst into tears.
Zhouzhou, however, was not affected in the slightest. She laughed joyfully and grabbed Qin Xu’s hand, cheerfully pulling him toward the hospital.
According to Lei Chong’s directions, they found the tree. Zhouzhou immediately pulled out a small shovel from her bag and began digging.
Qin Xu saw this and couldn’t help but twitch his mouth. “Why do you carry this thing around with you?”
It didn’t seem like something a good person would do.
Zhouzhou answered confidently, “Of course I need to carry it! What if I find something valuable while I’m out? How am I supposed to dig it out?”
Qin Xu couldn’t help but roll his eyes. What treasure would there be out here?
Her bag was some kind of magic pouch that could fit everything in it. If not, with all this equipment, she would have been arrested the minute she stepped outside.
Who brings a shovel around with them?
Seeing him standing there in a daze, Zhouzhou sighed, clearly exasperated. “Second Uncle!”
“If you’re not going to help, at least stop blocking the way!”
She gave him a look, clearly thinking he was as clueless as a block of wood.
Upon hearing her words, Qin Xu touched his nose and took the shovel from her. “Alright, I’ll help you.”
Zhouzhou didn’t argue and handed it over. She then pulled out her compass, spun it, and dashed over to another tree, taking out a hoe and started digging there.
Qin Xu watched her work, his eyelids twitching. Every time she did something, she managed it so carefully without injuring herself. He didn’t say anything, just let her be.
After a while, he suddenly felt the shovel hit something hard. He kept digging, and soon, he saw the corner of a box.
His expression changed, and his eyes widened in surprise. So there really was something there.
He dug a few more times and gently pulled the box out.
Opening it, sure enough, it was filled with gold.
Just as he was about to speak, he heard Zhouzhou excitedly wave at him, “Second Uncle, come here!”
Qin Xu lifted his head, but before he could say anything, his left eyelid twitched. He saw Zhouzhou almost knocking over a tree. She had discarded her hoe and was holding the tree, her little face flushed red with effort.
The tree itself was also strange. Despite it being almost summer, when plants should be growing well, its leaves were yellow and looked like a dead tree.
No time to think about it, Qin Xu quickly ran over and caught the tree, gently laying it down.

Upon getting closer, he realized what had happened. The roots of the tree had long since decayed. The reason for this, however, became clear when he saw the large box underneath the roots.
After Zhouzhou moved the tree aside, she picked up the hoe and began digging again.
Before long, she had dug a much larger hole. The full shape of the box was finally revealed— it was taller than she was!
Zhouzhou stared at the gleaming gold on the box, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
So much money!
“Second Uncle, catch!” Zhouzhou lifted the box and called out to Qin Xu.
Qin Xu moved to catch it but missed. Thankfully, Zhouzhou didn’t let go, or it would have fallen right on her.
She stuck her head out and blinked her eyes, watching him.
Qin Xu’s face flushed red. He cleared his throat, “Wait, I’ll come down and help you lift it. It’s hard to exert strength from up here.”
Zhouzhou gave him a sidelong glance, her dark eyes gleaming, but she didn’t call him out. Instead, she sighed, as if everything was unspoken.
Second Uncle’s strength really was too small!
Seeing the look in her eyes, Qin Xu felt wronged.
Did she think everyone was as strong as she was?
He held back his words to avoid further embarrassment.
He jumped down into the hole and, together with Zhouzhou, each lifting one side of the box, managed to get it out of the hole.
Zhouzhou held it high, standing on tiptoe, and with great effort, she finally got the box out. Her face turned red from the strain.
Seeing Qin Xu watching her, she puffed out her little chest and said, “Once I grow taller, I’ll be able to do it all by myself. You won’t need to help me anymore.”
Second Uncle may be tall, but he was not as strong as her. All show and no go, hmph.
Qin Xu didn’t bother to argue. “Yes, yes, you’re the best.”
She was always right, after all.
Zhouzhou hummed smugly as she climbed on top of the box. To her surprise, there was a lock on it.
She gripped the lock with both hands, twisted it slightly, and the iron lock snapped open immediately. She tossed it aside and eagerly opened the lid, letting out a loud “Wow!”
So many treasures!
Qin Xu walked out of the hole, brushing off the dirt on his clothes. When he saw the contents of the box, his brow furrowed.
Inside, besides a few gold bars, most of the items were vases, jade, night-shining pearls, and other trinkets. His expression immediately darkened.
Zhouzhou also noticed something. “Hmm, why does this have so much yin energy?”
Although each item glowed with golden light, indicating they were valuable, they all emitted a heavy, sinister aura.
“It’s like… they were dug up from a tomb,” she said.
“They were dug up from a tomb,” Qin Xu said coldly.
Zhouzhou looked at him, her curiosity piqued.
Seeing her expression, Qin Xu softened a little but, upon seeing the contents of the box, his anger returned.
“I didn’t expect Lei Dao and his crew not only to be involved in smuggling but also grave robbing.”
He knew exactly what they planned to do with these items—to sell them and make a profit.
Tch.
That Lei Chong may be young, but he’s quite clever.
He told them where the gold was hidden but kept the real treasures for himself.
The tree had withered and was easy to spot, but at worst, the hospital would choose to dig it up and plant a new one.
It seemed like their original plan was to leave with the box soon.
At this thought, Qin Xu sneered.
He turned to Zhouzhou and asked, “Zhouzhou, is there anything else?”
Zhouzhou glanced at her compass and nodded, “Yes!”
“Show me, and I’ll have someone come to dig it up.”
“Okay.” Zhouzhou nodded, holding her compass as she circled the area. She soon pointed to three more trees.
Qin Xu noted their locations.
Zhouzhou ran over and said, “Second Uncle, do you think that big bad guy has any treasure hidden at home too?”
She’d been too busy catching people earlier, it had been dark, and she hadn’t had time to look properly.
Her question reminded him; it was very possible.
Qin Xu bent down and looked at Zhouzhou. “Zhouzhou, I’m giving you a task now.”
“Treasure hunting?” Zhouzhou asked excitedly.
Qin Xu nodded. “That’s right. Find all the treasures. I’ll put in a good word for you and ask Chief to give you a reward.”
Zhouzhou’s eyes immediately widened, and she asked curiously, “Second Uncle, aren’t these treasures for me?”
