Chapter 1008: Zhouzhou Takes Care of the Kids
Seeing her like this, the professor looked over with a puzzled expression. “What’s wrong with this little girl?”
Qin Xu grabbed Zhouzhou by the arm, hoisted her up, and tossed her onto Wangcai’s back, signaling it to quickly take the obvious bag away.
Every time the little money-grubber couldn’t get her way, she would start throwing a tantrum. No idea who she learned this from.
“It’s nothing,” Qin Xu said. “She’s just tired.”
The professor nodded, then seemed to think of something and asked, “I heard that all of this was found by this little girl?”
“Yes,” Qin Xu nodded.
Upon hearing this, the professor couldn’t help but praise her. “This little girl is really impressive. She’s been a great help to us. Once I get back, I’ll make sure to apply for a pennant for her.”
Hearing this, Qin Xu coughed lightly and asked in a low voice, “Is there any material reward?”
If not, this little money-grubber might end up eating one less bowl of rice.
The professor was taken aback for a moment, then his mouth twitched, looking at Qin Xu with confusion. “With your family’s background, you’re short on money?”
His family was the wealthiest in the region, after all. How could they possibly be lacking?
Qin Xu sighed and pointed at Zhouzhou, who was lying lifelessly on Wangcai’s back. “This one, the money-grubber.”
“She doesn’t need much. Just a little snack will do.”
The little chubby girl was easy to please.
Upon hearing this, the professor understood immediately and broke into a big smile. “Of course, of course! Next time I’m at your place, I’ll bring her something.”
He and Grandpa Qin were still good friends.
Qin Xu smiled as well. “Thank you very much, Professor Wang.”
Professor Wang waved his hand. “No need for thanks. I should be thanking this little girl. She’s the real hero here.”
These were all national treasures. He couldn’t even bring himself to think about the consequences that if they had fallen into the wrong hands.
So even if there were no rewards from above, he would personally pay out of pocket to reward Zhouzhou.
Qin Xu smiled and finished going over the inventory of items with the professor. Once everything was settled, they headed back to the car.
As soon as they got inside, Qin Xu saw Zhouzhou lying lifelessly in the backseat, her eyes wide open and her face blank, looking like she was in a very bad mood.
A smile flashed in his eyes. He said, “Professor Wang said he would apply for a reward for you.”
He was thinking that, if no material reward came through, he could buy some things and give some money to Professor Wang to pass on as a reward to Zhouzhou.
Otherwise, after working so hard, the little money-grubber might start shouting in protest for not getting anything.
Sure enough, when Zhouzhou heard this, she instantly perked up, her excitement palpable. “Really?!”
Qin Xu nodded. “Of course. When have I ever lied to you?”
Finally reassured, Zhouzhou grinned widely, kissed Wangcai on the cheek, and said, “Wangcai, you really bring me luck!”
Hearing this, Jinbao immediately turned its head and stared at her with a gloomy gaze.
What was that supposed to mean? Was she trying to undermine it? Was she trying to imply something with that comment?

Zhouzhou noticed its gaze and quickly covered her head with one hand, while using the other to pick up Jinbao and give it a kiss on the cheek. “Jinbao, you bring me luck too! You’re both my treasures!”
Upon hearing this, Jinbao made a face of disdain and pushed its head forcefully into her arms.
Ugh! A smelly old tiger’s mouth touched this! And now she wanted to kiss it! Hmph!
Zhouzhou didn’t care at all, happily kissing both of them.
From the front seat, Qin Xu watched this with a bit of envy and said, “You’re kissing them but not me?”
He had helped too, you know!
Hearing this, Zhouzhou immediately leaned over and planted a kiss on his cheek.
She chirped, “Thanks, Second Uncle!”
Now, Qin Xu was satisfied.
Jinbao couldn’t resist rolling its eyes. What a flirt! It wasn’t even special—it wasn’t like she only kissed it.
Qin Xu reached over and patted Zhouzhou’s head. “You’ve been working all night. You must be tired. Let’s find a place to rest. After you wake up, we’ll go shopping.”
“Okay!” As she spoke, Zhouzhou’s stomach let out a loud growl.
Qin Xu smiled and said, “Let’s go eat first.”
“Good!”
The portions in the northeast were huge, and as soon as Zhouzhou arrived, she couldn’t stop eating.
She devoured eight bowls in a row, making the restaurant owner wonder if he had been too stingy with the servings.
Zhouzhou patted her bulging belly and gave the boss a thumbs-up. “Boss, your food is really delicious!”
The boss couldn’t help but smile widely.
Zhouzhou looked up at Qin Xu and said, “Second Uncle, the rice here is really good. Why don’t we take some back to sell?”
Upon hearing this, Qin Xu shook his head. “Forget about the rice. It’s not that expensive, and you can find it in supermarkets. There’s no way to make much money off of it.”
Well, okay then.
Zhouzhou sighed and shoved another bowl of rice into her mouth. When she couldn’t eat any more, she finally stopped.
After eating, the sleepiness hit her all at once. She yawned and rubbed her eyes.
Seeing this, Qin Xu picked her up and carried her to the hotel.
Once Zhouzhou was asleep, he took the time to report all the details of the mission.
The Chief on the other end of the line listened with mixed emotions.
But more than anything, it was a sense of irony.
Niu Wei had done so much for that mother and child, but in the end, all they really wanted was to use him for breeding.
And the child they produced was a natural-born villain. At such a young age, it was already so malicious. If it grew up, who knew how much worse it could get—perhaps even more dangerous than its grandfather or mother.
The thought made the Chief break into a cold sweat.
“Thankfully, Zhouzhou saw through it.”
Otherwise, who would have thought that a child could be so calculating?
Qin Xu agreed.
If Zhouzhou hadn’t been there, following their usual procedures, they might have assumed Lei Chong was innocent, and once the case was wrapped up, they would have sent him to an orphanage.
At that point, they’d be raising a tiger in the house.
With those antiques in his possession, Lei Chong could easily exchange them for money. Given time, he would become a significant threat.
The Chief furrowed his brows. “This kid is already a problem. We need to figure out how to deal with him.”
He was still so young, but that made him harder to control—like a shield for his maliciousness.
But such a dangerous person couldn’t be released.
Even if they did let him go, they would need to find someone who could control him.
The Chief’s mind drifted, and suddenly an image of a small figure appeared in his mind.
“Zhouzhou…”
He had only said two words when Qin Xu immediately cut him off. “Don’t even think about it.”
The Chief snorted. “I didn’t even say anything yet.”
“I know exactly what you’re going to say. You’re thinking about having Zhouzhou take care of Lei Chong, but that’s absolutely not going to happen. Her father won’t agree to it either.”
Fine.
The Chief sighed. “I was just saying it casually.”
Qin Xu didn’t say anything further.
His stance was firm: that child needed to be kept far away from Zhouzhou. The danger was too great.
Seeing his resolve, the Chief muttered under his breath. “You never know who’s dangerous.”
A little clever girl like Zhouzhou could never lose out to someone like Lei Chong. If Lei Chong wasn’t played to his limit, it was better to think of him as lucky.
However, Zhouzhou was still young. There was no way they could dump everything on her.
Sighing, the Chief finally stopped talking.
Just as Qin Xu was about to hang up, his peripheral vision caught sight of a small figure. Looking down, he met a pair of bright, shimmering eyes…
