Chapter 1013: Dragon Group’s Former Leader
“Who is it?” Zhouzhou asked curiously, leaning forward to get a better look.
She strained her little head and finally saw the photo in Ye Lingfeng’s hand, letting out a puzzled “huh?” sound. After glancing back and forth between the photo and Ye Lingfeng, she asked, “Daddy, this uncle has so much merit… even more than you!”
Ye Lingfeng pursed his lips, his grip tightening around the photo.
Noticing the change in his father’s expression, Zhouzhou asked, “Daddy, who is this uncle?”
It took a while before Ye Lingfeng spoke up. “He was the former leader of the Dragon Group. He was like a mentor to me.”
When Ye Lingfeng first entered the Fourth Bureau, it was this man who had guided him.
Qin Xu’s expression also became serious.
A few years ago, the Fourth Bureau had a mission where several operatives went missing, including the previous War God. The entire team disappeared under mysterious circumstances, their fates unknown. Not long after, the Fourth Bureau was attacked, with heavy casualties. Despite the fierce attack, they managed to eliminate the enemy, but the attackers had no identity, and their records were erased.
The Fourth Bureau’s location was always highly classified, yet somehow, the enemy had discovered it. This led to speculation that the previous team members had been captured and had leaked information. At the time, Ye Lingfeng had firmly rejected such claims. By then, he had already grown skilled and had supported the Bureau as its new War God, quashing any rumors with his authority.
Still, for the next few years, he never stopped searching for those lost operatives. What had happened to them, Ye Lingfeng didn’t know, but it was clear they hadn’t been found.
This event remained an unsolved mystery.
To think, today, he would come across a photo of this man.
Ye Lingfeng’s gaze turned cold as he crouched down, staring at Jinbao. “Jinbao, where did you find this? Can you take me there?”
Jinbao glanced at Zhouzhou, who quickly spoke up. “Jinbao is the best!”
She had great foresight!
Jinbao lifted its chin proudly and immediately turned to head in a particular direction.
Ye Lingfeng and Zhouzhou quickly followed.
As they moved, Zhouzhou called back to Qin Xu, “Second Uncle, please take care of the tigers here and wait for the rescue team.”
Qin Xu nodded without question and stayed behind.
The trio — two humans and a cat — disappeared quickly into the forest.
Jinbao led them to a cave.
The entrance was overgrown with weeds. Without Jinbao’s guidance, they wouldn’t have thought to look there.
Ye Lingfeng reached out to clear the grass and walked in while holding Zhouzhou.
Surprisingly, the weeds had kept the cave well-preserved.
The ground was covered in numerous footprints, some fresh, some faded. Ye Lingfeng walked through and left his own mark.
Zhouzhou looked down and said in surprise, “Daddy, these footprints look just like yours!”
She pointed at the ground.
Ye Lingfeng glanced at the prints, nodding. “They’re special to the Fourth Bureau. We all wear matching gear when we go on missions.”
Zhouzhou looked down at her little feet and stomped on the ground, leaving a tiny golden ingot-shaped mark. She was satisfied, nodding her head, “I like my shoes better.”
She then looked deeper into the cave.

It was dark, so Zhouzhou took out a lighting talisman and tossed it up. The cave was instantly illuminated, revealing everything clearly.
Ye Lingfeng’s eyes scanned the area, lingering on some bloodstains on the ground.
Then, his gaze moved to a corner, and he walked over, pushing aside some dried grass. He paused, his brow furrowing slightly as he studied the marks on the ground.
Zhouzhou, curious, walked over. “Daddy, what’s wrong?”
“Look here.” Ye Lingfeng picked something up.
Zhouzhou peered closely. “Daddy, what is this?”
He held up a piece of cloth with a pattern on it.
Zhouzhou didn’t recognize the design.
Ye Lingfeng’s expression turned cold. “It’s the symbol of the Kryant family.”
Kryant family? Zhouzhou was confused, staring at him.
But Ye Lingfeng didn’t elaborate further. He stood up, his voice serious. “Look around and see if you can find any more clues.”
“Okay.” Zhouzhou nodded and began searching.
“Daddy, look at this.” Zhouzhou found a syringe-like object and held it up for him to see.
There wasn’t just one — there were ten.
This was the same number as the missing operatives.
The syringes still contained some residue inside.
Ye Lingfeng asked, “Can you tell what’s in them?”
“I’ll check.” Zhouzhou was about to try when Ye Lingfeng suddenly grabbed her arm. “No, let’s wait until we get back and let Jing Bai examine it.”
He didn’t know what was inside, and he didn’t want to risk Zhouzhou ingesting something dangerous.
Zhouzhou pouted, not happy with his decision. “Daddy, do you not trust me?”
Ye Lingfeng shook his head, ruffling her hair. “No. But I can’t take the risk.”
His expression was uncharacteristically serious.
Seeing his concern, Zhouzhou didn’t throw a tantrum. She instead took his hand, looking worried. “Daddy, are the bad guys really strong?”
“Yes,” Ye Lingfeng nodded, for the first time admitting that the enemy was formidable.
After all, these were the people who had managed to take down the previous War God. Who knew how difficult they would be to handle?
Zhouzhou thought for a moment. “Then let’s go back quickly and have Big Brother check it.”
“Alright.” Ye Lingfeng took a deep breath, confirming that there was nothing else of note, before turning to leave.
When they stepped outside, Qin Xu was still waiting for them. The male tiger was gone, but the mother tiger and her cub remained.
Upon seeing them, Qin Xu sighed in relief. “The rescue team has already left.”
“Mm.” Ye Lingfeng nodded. “Let’s go back.”
“Okay.” Qin Xu didn’t ask any more questions.
Zhouzhou ran up to the cub, gathering the things it had brought and patting its head. “I’m leaving now. I’ll come back to visit you next time.”
The cub reluctantly looked at her, holding onto her clothes with its teeth, refusing to let go. Zhouzhou took a step, and it followed closely behind.
Seeing this, Zhouzhou asked, “Do you want to come home with me?”
Before the cub could answer, Wangcai and Jinbao immediately sprang into action.
This couldn’t happen!
There were already so many small ones at home, they couldn’t possibly bring another one!
Wangcai let out a loud “woof,” and if the cub dared follow, it would beat it up eight times a day!
It was being fierce, completely unlike the playful attitude it had shown earlier.
Jinbao waved its paw menacingly, its shiny black eyes fixed on the cub.
Seeing the paw, the cub immediately let go of Zhouzhou’s clothes and backed away.
The mother tiger quickly grabbed her cub and dashed off.
Humans were too fierce!
Zhouzhou called after them, “I’ll come back to see you!”
Hearing this, Jinbao shot her a glare.
This little girl was heartless!
