When Qin Ren entered, he found that the two of them were sitting a good distance apart. Zhouzhou was in the corner, puffing out her cheeks and looking quite upset, occasionally glaring at Jing Bai. Jing Bai, on the other hand, had an impassive expression, his lips tightly pressed, radiating a chill that could’ve replaced the air conditioning.

Seeing them like this, Qin Ren raised an eyebrow in mild curiosity. How come they were always talking about each other when they weren’t around, but now that they were together, they were causing trouble?

He walked up to Zhouzhou and ruffled her hair, asking with curiosity, “Did you two have a fight?”

Zhouzhou immediately tattled, “Big Brother, he said I’m short and that I’m a tripping hazard!”

After hearing this, Qin Ren couldn’t help but let out a soft chuckle, “Pffft.”

Upon seeing this, Zhouzhou’s expression turned immediately resentful. What did that laugh mean? Did he agree with Jing Bai?!

Noticing her gaze turning dark with anger, Qin Ren quickly controlled his laughter, cleared his throat, and furrowed his brows in mock disapproval. “How could he say that? That’s too much!”

Zhouzhou huffed in indignation.

Qin Ren patted her head and continued, “Our Zhouzhou is not short at all. You’ve grown much taller than before. You’re going to keep growing taller and taller.”

“Exactly!” Zhouzhou proudly puffed out her chest, standing tall with her hands on her hips.

She turned toward Jing Bai with a haughty glare. “Did you hear that?!”

Jing Bai ignored her.

Qin Ren watched them both, feeling a bit amused. They were acting like children in kindergarten, with minds as tiny as needles.

He took Zhouzhou’s hand and walked toward Jing Bai, lightly coughing before saying, “You two… When you’re not together, you’re always thinking about each other, but once you see each other, you start arguing.”

At hearing this, Jing Bai’s eyelids twitched slightly, and he glanced at Zhouzhou. “You were thinking about me?”

Zhouzhou initially thought of saying no, but then she thought about how lonely Jing Bai looked on his own. Her heart softened a little. She snorted, turned her head, and refused to look at him. He kept hurting her feelings, and if he did it a few more times, she would really stop caring about him!

Jing Bai’s expression softened slightly. Fine, he wouldn’t argue with her.

As he recalled her earlier question, he said, “Your dad came by a few days ago, gave me a pill, and then left.”

This seemed to match up. But the people who talked didn’t do it willingly. They were being controlled by drugs.

Her father was probably out looking for people right now.

At this thought, Zhouzhou rubbed her chin thoughtfully.

Jing Bai seemed to have guessed what she was thinking and comforted her. “Don’t worry, your dad is very capable. He’ll be fine.”

This was the first time he had comforted someone.

Qin Ren glanced at him, raising an eyebrow in surprise.

Jing Bai, feeling a bit uncomfortable, coughed lightly and put on a serious expression, not saying anything more.

Qin Ren couldn’t help but chuckle. Zhouzhou truly had a magical influence on people. She had changed so many of them.

Zhouzhou, unaware of Qin Ren’s thoughts, was still preoccupied with Ye Lingfeng’s situation. She couldn’t help but worry. She had even tried reading his fortune and found that he was safe for now. That made her breathe a sigh of relief.

“Well, I’m off then,” she said. She still had math problems to solve for her competition, and time was tight.

As she turned to leave, Jing Bai’s expression immediately darkened. He silently watched her back, his gaze emotionless, but Zhouzhou, seeing it, couldn’t shake the feeling that she had somehow upset him.

She paused in her steps, turned around, and ran back to him. Grinning, she hugged his leg and said, “Big Brother, don’t be mad. I’ve just been really busy these past few days. After I finish my competition and get the prize money, I’ll come and spend time with you!”

Jing Bai, after thinking for a moment, asked, “When?”

Zhouzhou was actually well prepared for this question. “In August!”

Brother Dafu said that by July, they would finish the national competition. If they won, they could participate in international competitions, with their accommodation and travel fully covered. She wouldn’t have to spend a penny to go abroad.

Qin Ren, however, almost burst out laughing.

He led Zhouzhou out and explained, “Last time he came over, Grandma was so enthusiastic. She kept talking to him, and she scared him so much that the next morning, he left without even having breakfast.”

When Zhouzhou heard this, she recalled, “That was a long time ago, wasn’t it?”

Qin Ren sighed dramatically, “See? That’s some serious trauma.”

He struggled to suppress his laughter, unable to believe that Jing Bai had been so scared by Grandma’s hospitality.

Zhouzhou couldn’t help but laugh as well.

Behind them, Jing Bai deliberately slammed the door shut, clearly trying to send a message to the sibling duo: he wasn’t deaf, he could still hear them!

Zhouzhou and Qin Ren turned around, both breaking into laughter again.

This was the first time he had locked the door.

After tormenting him, Zhouzhou happily ran out, hopped in the car, and went home.

As soon as she got back, she saw the Chief of the police station sitting there.
