Chapter 1043: Locked in Confinement
The two turned their heads and saw Old Brian standing outside. His eyes were fixed intently on Zhouzhou, filled with a chilling murderous intent.
Zhouzhou’s fingers instinctively tightened for a moment but quickly loosened. She pretended to be frightened, hiding behind Brian Junior, and timidly said, “I… I was just asking, sorry, I didn’t know I couldn’t ask.”
Brian Junior was also frightened, but since Zhouzhou was brought by him, he felt responsible for protecting her.
“Grandfather,” he called out, “I brought my friend here to play.”
“Friend?” Old Brian’s gaze swept over him with clear dissatisfaction. “Do you remember what I told you?”
Brian Junior’s eyes dimmed, and he muttered, “I remember. The head of the Brian family has no friends and doesn’t need any.”
“Mm.” Old Brian nodded slightly. “Since you’ve made a mistake, then go to where you belong.”
At these words, Brian Junior’s body shook, and his face paled a little. The “place he belonged” was a pitch-black room with no light or sound. It was where his grandfather had taken him for the first time after he had a nightmare. That was also the first time he truly understood fear—far worse than the nightmares.
Thinking of this, he couldn’t help but shiver.
Zhouzhou noticed and also shuddered. She tightly grabbed his hand. She reasonably suspected that once he left, he would have her killed. The murderous intent he had shown towards her since earlier was unmistakable.
Brian Junior thought of her but hesitated. He pushed her away and said, “Grandfather, can she leave now?”
He didn’t want her to go to that terrifying place yet.
Old Brian glanced at Zhouzhou and nodded, “She can go.”
Upon hearing this, Brian Junior finally sighed in relief. He turned to Zhouzhou and said, “You can go play by yourself.”
Zhouzhou blinked, cautiously glanced at Old Brian, and appeared genuinely frightened.
Old Brian, however, showed a gentle smile. “Little girl, remember not to ask things that you shouldn’t. Got it?”
Zhouzhou, her eyes filled with unshed tears, nodded vigorously. She looked completely timid.
Old Brian chuckled. “A good child is one who knows how to correct their mistakes.”
He then exchanged a look with the butler, who immediately stepped forward to grab Zhouzhou, smiling at Brian Junior, “Young master, you should attend to your business now.”
Brian Junior nodded and told Zhouzhou, “Then I’ll leave first.”
“Grandfather Butler, please take her out,” he instructed.
“Understood, young master.” The butler respectfully acknowledged, and after seeing Brian Junior leave, he turned to look at Zhouzhou. “Let’s go. I’ll take you out.”
Zhouzhou nodded obediently and followed him.
A shuttle bus was parked at the door.
Zhouzhou swiftly climbed aboard, appearing carefree. She flashed a smile with her small teeth at the butler. “Thank you, grandpa, you’re really kind.”
The butler glanced at her and chuckled but said nothing.
After all, she was just a child—naive and easily deceived.
Zhouzhou yawned and subtly turned her head away.
Hmph, who’s the fool? It’s not her, that’s for sure.
She just wasn’t sure where he was taking her.

At that moment, Ye Lingfeng, holding the talisman Zhouzhou had given him, quietly arrived at a house located at the southwest corner of the estate.
This place was far away from the others, and there wasn’t a soul in sight. The silence here was oddly eerie.
Two men stood at the entrance, both tall and imposing, their eyes filled with a dangerous coldness—a kind of brutal cruelty only seen in those who had killed before.
Ye Lingfeng glanced down at the Compass in his hand, the talisman pointing directly at the door behind the two men.
Qiu Guoliang and the others were inside.
Zheng Yu’s voice came through the earpiece. “Boss, I’ve checked the surveillance. I found that someone brings food here every day, but no one has ever been seen coming out.”
“Also, during the time when Captain Qiu and the others went on a mission five years ago, Kurosaki was definitely not here. He only returned two days later, and when he did, doctors started entering Brian’s estate.”
So, the people inside were likely who they thought they were.
Zheng Yu continued, “The food delivery is due in two minutes. Wait a moment, and you can follow him in.”
Even though Zhouzhou’s talisman was a precaution, it was better to be safe. If anything went wrong, it could cause trouble.
Ye Lingfeng didn’t respond, simply tapping his earphone lightly.
After two minutes, just as expected, a person came carrying food.
As he passed by the guards, one of them spat in the food while the other flicked ash into it. The group laughed and seemed familiar with the routine.
Ye Lingfeng’s eyes immediately turned cold.
He lowered his gaze, masked his presence, and followed in quietly.
Inside, the place was filled with traps. Ye Lingfeng focused carefully, inspecting every corner.
Almost every time he passed a room, he could hear the sound of wailing. Peering through the transparent glass, he saw people being tortured, some bloodied beyond recognition, their faces barely discernible.
The food delivery man turned this way and that, passing through countless doors and winding through the hallways for several minutes. He then descended a set of stairs.
There was no floor indication, but Ye Lingfeng could roughly estimate the depth by the number of steps.
It was about five floors underground.
Though it was the scorching summer outside, a chill permeated the air here, making the place feel cold and damp.
Ye Lingfeng’s heart sank.
Finally, the food delivery man stopped at a room. Unlike the others, this room had an iron door, with no gaps or transparency. The only opening was a small hatch where the man threw in the food, knocking impatiently on the door.
He then moved to the next room, repeating the same motion.
He didn’t care whether the people inside ate or not—he just tossed the food in and left.
Ye Lingfeng, using the wall-piercing talisman, advanced into the room.
The scene he witnessed caused his blood to run cold.
He had an invisible camera on him, and Zheng Yu could see what was happening inside. When Zheng Yu realized what was going on, he couldn’t hold back his shock. His eyes widened in disbelief.
This…
Ye Lingfeng’s gaze was fixed on the person tied to a frame. His limbs hung limply, his long hair draped over his face, covering his features. Blood slowly dripped from his body, pooling on the floor.
The person was so emaciated that the bones were visible beneath the skin. The blood flow was agonizingly slow, and he was barely breathing.
The clothes he wore were the same as Ye Lingfeng’s.
The Fourth Bureau uniform.
Ye Lingfeng’s heart felt like it had been struck by a heavy blow. His gaze never left the direction of the man tied up. He couldn’t take a single step forward.
Zheng Yu, also watching this unfold, couldn’t believe his eyes.
He struggled to shift his gaze, his eyes quickly reddening.
At that moment, he noticed something and his eyelids fluttered. He hurriedly spoke, “Boss, it’s bad. The butler just brought Zhouzhou here!”
