Chapter 1050: Another Dad
Sensing someone’s gaze, Qiu Guoliang turned his head and smiled at Ye Lingfeng.
Ye Lingfeng remembered that Qiu Guoliang used to be a very stern man—cold and perpetually serious, as if everyone owed him money. During training, he never held back, leaving Ye Lingfeng feeling like he was his mortal enemy, one punch away from death.
Now, however, he had become much more cheerful.
Perhaps, Ye Lingfeng thought, it was because there were things that could no longer be said aloud.
Ye Lingfeng lowered his eyes slightly, walked forward, and gently ruffled Zhouzhou’s hair. Then, he introduced her to the others: “This is my daughter.”
After a pause, he added, “Biological.”
Back in Brian’s underground basement, everyone had already heard Zhouzhou calling him “Dad,” which they found odd. They thought maybe she was adopted. But now, hearing that she was his biological daughter, they were even more surprised.
Seeing their astonished expressions, Ye Lingfeng smirked and said, “What’s so surprising about it? Such a beautiful little girl—who else but me could be her father?”
Shameless.
The group collectively rolled their eyes, barely restraining the urge to smack him.
Since they were all in the same hospital ward for convenience, Ye Lingfeng didn’t have to repeat the same story multiple times. Pulling up a chair, he began recounting how he and Zhouzhou reunited.
He even shared the part where he mistakenly thought Zhouzhou had died, set up a memorial tablet for her, and ended up causing her to get struck by lightning.
Zhouzhou, seeing that her father was deliberately trying to cheer everyone up, played along. Hugging her head in mock despair, she pitifully said, “When the lightning struck, my head was smoking! I hadn’t even figured out what was happening before Mr. Thunder zapped me.”
“My cherished Fortune Hair that I had grown for so long was gone! I had to shave it all off and ended up as a little bald head again.”
Everyone couldn’t help but smile at the image of Zhouzhou as a little bald girl. They imagined she must have been adorable even then.
“And then what happened?” The only one among them still capable of speaking asked curiously. He was just two years older than Ye Lingfeng.
Ye Lingfeng shot him a glance, then shrugged and sighed dramatically. “Afterward, my dear daughter refused to acknowledge me and demanded I compensate her for her Fortune Hair. Tell me, where am I supposed to find that?”
He looked so troubled that everyone couldn’t help but burst into laughter.
For the first time, they saw this side of him.
There was a time when Ye Lingfeng had been like a machine—silent, eating only when necessary, and training relentlessly. Even when Captain Qiu injured him severely, he never uttered a single complaint.
He had been consumed by hatred, living like someone who wasn’t truly alive.
Now, with his daughter by his side, there was finally a trace of warmth and humanity in him.
The thought of Ye Lingfeng, once so untouchable, being driven to his wit’s end by his little girl, bowing his head and saying whatever it took to appease her, made the group want to laugh.
Though they couldn’t say it aloud, the look in their eyes said it all.
Serves you right.
Weren’t you always so high and mighty? Keep it up, why don’t you?
But Ye Lingfeng continued casually, explaining how Qin Lie had long known Zhouzhou was his daughter but had sneakily registered her under his own household.
When he mentioned this part, he looked utterly aggrieved, which only made everyone laugh harder.
“And how did Zhouzhou finally acknowledge you?” They asked, feigning interest but secretly hoping to hear about more of his misfortunes.
Ye Lingfeng stood, stretched lazily, and said, “Well, as for the rest, I’m tired. I’ll tell you tomorrow.”

With that, he walked off with his hands behind his back.
The group gritted their teeth in frustration. Zhouzhou was right—he was such a sharp-tongued uncle!
How had they not noticed this infuriating side of him before?
Watching him leave, Zhouzhou covered her mouth and chuckled.
Her dad was so bad, but she liked it.
She also understood that he was deliberately teasing them, giving them something to look forward to—even if it was just gossip.
It wasn’t a bad idea.
Maybe she could bring Beibei over someday; Beibei knew the best gossip.
After finishing acupuncture treatments for them, Zhouzhou stayed by their side until they gradually fell asleep.
That night, they all slept soundly.
Once they were resting, Zhouzhou stepped out and saw Ye Lingfeng standing on the balcony. He held a cigarette in his hand but didn’t light it, merely holding it under his nose.
Ever since Zhouzhou entered his life, Ye Lingfeng had nearly quit smoking. He only held onto cigarettes occasionally when he was particularly agitated.
Knowing this habit of his, Zhouzhou ran up and hugged his leg.
Looking down, Ye Lingfeng saw her soft, cherubic face and couldn’t help but pinch her cheek. It was soft and warm, and it eased the heaviness in his heart.
“Zhouzhou,” he said suddenly, “can you figure out what happened to Captain Qiu and the others’ tongues?”
He hadn’t dared to ask earlier.
Hearing this, Zhouzhou hesitated for a moment before nodding. “Dad, maybe it’s better if you don’t know.”
Her answer said it all.
Ye Lingfeng closed his eyes, his face filled with pain. “Did they bite them off themselves?”
Zhouzhou looked at him in surprise. How did he know?
His guess was confirmed.
Ye Lingfeng shut his eyes tightly, anguish flashing across his face.
Old Brian had captured them to extract information about the Fourth Bureau. Realizing the risk of being controlled by drugs, they must have regained some clarity and bitten off their tongues to ensure they couldn’t reveal anything, even if they lost control.
The one whose tongue remained intact had likely only just been captured and didn’t know much, so he was spared.
Ye Lingfeng had suspected as much, but hearing it confirmed felt like a knife to the heart.
That monster had died too easily.
Zhouzhou sighed, unsure of how to comfort him.
Seeing how upset he was about their condition, Zhouzhou clenched her fists. No matter what it took, she was determined to cure them!
Worried about any sudden changes, Zhouzhou didn’t return home that night. She set up a small bed in the ward, ready to handle any emergencies.
Sure enough, in the middle of the night, Qiu Guoliang developed a fever. It took over an hour to bring it down.
The next day, Qin Lie called Zhouzhou, having learned she had returned. Zhouzhou told him what she could.
After listening, Qin Lie asked, “Do you want me to bring you some clothes? You and Little Er didn’t bring much when you went abroad.”
At this, Zhouzhou nodded vigorously. “Yes!”
When they went abroad, Grandma Qin had prepared two outfits per day for her, not expecting her to do laundry, especially since hotels weren’t convenient.
Having gone straight to the hospital upon returning, Zhouzhou had run out of clean clothes.
After getting Ye Lingfeng’s approval, she gave Qin Lie the hospital’s address.
When Qin Lie arrived, Zhouzhou’s eyes twinkled mischievously as she pulled him into the ward.
“Uncles, this is my other dad!” she announced.
The group’s gazes immediately shifted to Qin Lie.
For a moment, Qin Lie was stunned.
Why were they looking at him like they were watching a show?
