Chapter 330: Who’s My Father?
At this moment, in a dilapidated house on the outskirts, the kidnappers were ending their phone call. One of them turned to Huo Ji’an and asked, “Will your father really bring the money if I say this?”
Huo Ji’an sat dejectedly in the corner, his hands and feet tied. He found the most comfortable position, as this wasn’t his first time being a “hostage.” Hearing the question, he nodded. “Yes.”
Even if his father didn’t come, he would certainly send someone with the money. A million yuan was nothing to him. Looking at the kidnappers, he reminded them, “Don’t forget what you promised me earlier.”
“Of course, of course,” one of the kidnappers replied with a sly grin. “We’ll split the extra money with you, no problem.”
Originally, they only planned to ask for 100,000 yuan, but this kid had suggested a million. Another kidnapper laughed heartily. “Who knew you had a knack for being a middleman?”
Huo Ji’an remained silent, having learned this trick from Chubby Girl’s second brother. Thinking of Chubby Girl, he suddenly missed her. He wondered if she knew about his abduction.
Earlier at the kindergarten, he had just wanted a quiet place to sulk when a sack was thrown over him, and he was carried away. He immediately realized he was being kidnapped.
What surprised him was that these two men were so clueless—they were only after 100,000 yuan and didn’t even know how to properly threaten someone; he had to coach them.
With a disdainful curl of his lips and his head hanging low, he pondered. This time, his father probably wouldn’t come. It didn’t matter anyway; it wasn’t the first time. He thought with a weary breath, head bowed low.
As he sulked, he heard one kidnapper shout, “They’re here!”
The lookout burst into the room, and another kidnapper quickly used binoculars to confirm before calling Huo Mingxuan, instructing, “Give the money to the little girl with the antenna on her head and have her bring it over.”
Antenna? Huo Ji’an’s ears perked up. Could it be Chubby Girl? Thinking of her strength, he suddenly felt pity for the kidnappers. Little did they know what they were about to face.
Huo Mingxuan had the phone on speaker, so Zhouzhou overheard the conversation. She looked around, confused. Where was the antenna?
Qin Lie sighed, realizing his daughter was being dense again. He gently touched her head, thinking of the trouble the kidnappers were getting themselves into.
Zhouzhou finally realized they were referring to her little pigtail and got excited. She whispered to Qin Lie, “Daddy, can I earn this money?”
Catching the bad guys would mean a reward from her second uncle! Qin Lie, knowing her capabilities, sighed but gave his permission. “Do you think you can handle it?”
Zhouzhou nodded vigorously. “Yes, yes, yes!”
Qin Lie, confident in her strength, gave a final warning. “Remember to act dumb.”
“I got it,” Zhouzhou replied, patting her chest. “I’ll play dumb and then strike.”
Qin Lie smiled, tousling her hair before setting her down. “Go on.”
Huo Mingxuan, surprised at the exchange, was about to speak when Zhouzhou grabbed the suitcase of money and ran off.
The box wasn’t light, he noted with surprise, suddenly realizing that this little girl was no ordinary person. Yet, he still spoke coldly to the kidnappers, “I’ll give you two million first. Once I’m sure the child is safe, the rest of the money will follow.”
Two million would do. After all, they had only planned to ask for a hundred thousand initially. With the remainder to be split with Huo Ji’an, they could still pocket nine hundred and fifty thousand more. They immediately agreed.
Before long, Zhouzhou approached. As she neared the door, she feigned great effort, pulling the box forward. When she reached the door, two men emerged from inside, causing her to shrink back in fear and timidly say, “Uncle, here’s your money.”
The kidnappers nodded in satisfaction. “Thanks, you can go now.”
Huh? Zhouzhou was puzzled. They weren’t following the script. Weren’t they supposed to capture her for more money? These kidnappers lacked ambition! Seeing her hesitate, one asked, “Anything else?”
She shook her head but then turned back. “Uncle, can I rest inside for a bit?”
The kidnappers, inexperienced in such requests, scratched their heads in bewilderment. After all, they were just getting started in this line of work! No one had told them that they should let family members rest when they encountered them. Were they trying to fleece them?
Contemplating, the kidnapper furrowed his brow and began to urge them on, “Hurry up, do you think I’m stupid? If I let you in, we’ll have to entertain you with tea, and then you’ll see what we look like, won’t you?”
Zhouzhou sighed at their stupidity. She couldn’t even muster the energy to hit them. She changed the topic. “When will you let Little Skinny Pole go?”

“After we split the money,” one of them blurted out.
Split the money? Zhouzhou’s eyes lit up, and she bolted inside. The kidnappers panicked and followed her. “What are you doing?”
Huo Ji’an, seeing her, felt a wave of relief. It really was Chubby Girl. He explained quickly, “She’s with me. We’re in on this together.”
“Huh?” The kidnappers were confused. “What’s going on?”
Zhouzhou eagerly asked, “Little Skinny Pole, what money are you splitting?”
Huo Ji’an explained the plan. Zhouzhou understood and gave him a thumbs-up. “You’re so smart, Little Skinny Pole!”
Huo Ji’an smiled modestly. “Chubby Girl, do you want to make money with us?”
“No,” Zhouzhou shook her head. “My daddy is good to me. I can ask him for money directly. No need to share.”
Right. Huo Ji’an realized their family situations were different. His father didn’t care about him, so he needed the money. “By the way, Little Skinny Pole, your dad’s here too,” Zhouzhou mentioned.
Huo Ji’an’s eyes brightened. “Really?”
“Of course. When have I lied to you?” Zhouzhou said, then remembered something and pouted, telling him about how his father had wronged her dad.
Huo Ji’an’s excitement faded, his heart sinking. His father didn’t believe him, just like before.
Whenever he tried to tell his father he was hungry, his father would just tell him to stop bothering him. He looked down, feeling despondent.
Zhouzhou patted his shoulder. “Don’t be sad. I have good news. Today, you’ll meet your new dad, and he’ll be super nice to you.”
What? Huo Ji’an’s eyes sparkled as he looked at the kidnappers. “Which one of you is my new dad?”
