Chapter 359: You Have Completely Lost Me
Hearing his words, Huo Ji’an quickly lifted his head, his eyes reflecting disbelief as he glanced at him before quickly lowering his gaze again, clutching the bowl tightly, his fingers nervously picking at it.
Zhouzhou looked at him with concern, her small brows furrowing as she cast an unhappy glance at Huo Mingxuan. She disliked him, knowing how much those words hurt Little Skinny Pole.
Yu Ze also frowned, speaking seriously, “Mr. Huo, please choose your words carefully. Ji’an is very good and obedient. I’ve never seen him throw things, and he’s never been picky about the food I cook. As for lying, I have never witnessed that either. I don’t know why you would say such things, but the Ji’an I see is a sensitive child, lacking in security and in need of a father’s companionship.”
“As for the things you mentioned, if they are true, perhaps you should find reasons on yourself.”
His tone was calm, without any hint of disrespect, yet it caused Huo Mingxuan’s face to change color.
Huo Ji’an’s eyes lit up, looking at Yu Ze with surprise and joy. Did his dad really see him in such a good light?
Zhouzhou nodded vigorously, “Yes, Little Skinny Pole is very good.”
She then looked displeased at Huo Mingxuan, “Uncle, how can you say that? Little Skinny Pole wasn’t being picky; he was sick before, which is why he didn’t eat. Now that he’s better, he eats heartily.”
“And as for the pretend kidnapping last time, I already said it was my fifth brother’s idea. You should go talk to him.”
“And you said he likes to throw things? I’ve already told him not to waste things, and he’s changed.”
She prided herself on being fair and honest, calling right right and wrong wrong, unlike him, who spouted lies and blamed everything on a child.
Yu Ze looked up at Huo Mingxuan. Even a child understood these simple truths, but he did not.
Suddenly, Yu Ze understood why Huo Ji’an was so reluctant to return home. In such a family, he wouldn’t want to stay a second longer either.
Feeling a pang of pity, he held Huo Ji’an’s hand. The little boy immediately looked up at him and smiled brightly.
Seeing this, Huo Mingxuan grew even more agitated, a sense of panic setting in for the first time. He realized that this time, Huo Ji’an was serious.
Frowning, he spoke irritably, “Fine, let’s not talk about him. What about you? You know your own situation. A disgraced, blacklisted artist who can’t even find a proper job, doing odd jobs. How much can you earn in a month? A thousand? Two thousand? Can you afford to raise Huo Ji’an?”
Then, looking at Huo Ji’an, he added, “Do you want him to be your dad? Then be prepared to beg on the streets with him.”
Here we go again.
Zhouzhou puffed out her cheeks, her little fists clenching in anger. What was so wrong with begging? What was that disdainful tone about? Did he look down on people just because they were poor?
Huo Ji’an, even angrier, tightly hugged Yu Ze’s arm, glaring at Huo Mingxuan. “I don’t need you to worry about me. As long as I can be with my dad, I’m willing to eat plain buns and pickles with him!”
“Fine, very well.” Huo Mingxuan stood up abruptly, staring intently at Huo Ji’an. “I’ll ask you one last time. Will you come back with me or not?”
Huo Ji’an, exasperated, responded, “I’ve told you eight hundred times, I’m not going back! You don’t like me, so I don’t need you either!”
He hadn’t forgotten what Huo Mingxuan had just said. He always knew his dad didn’t like him, but he hadn’t expected such harsh thoughts.
Burying his face in Yu Ze’s shoulder, he rubbed away his tears. He wasn’t sad; he had a new dad now, one who loved him dearly, and that was enough.
Snuggling closer to Yu Ze, he found comfort in his new father’s embrace. Yu Ze wrapped his arms around him protectively.
Watching this, Huo Mingxuan’s face grew darker. After a moment of silence, he turned and left without a word.
The bodyguard hesitated but didn’t pause. Glancing back, he saw Huo Ji’an nestled happily in Yu Ze’s arms, not even sparing a glance in their direction.
With a sigh, he felt a sense of relief. Despite Mr. Huo’s harsh words, the little master had found a good new dad. Uncle Yu was indeed reliable.
As Huo Mingxuan walked away, the bodyguard pulled out a piece of candy and handed it to Zhouzhou, winking at her and mouthing, “Wait for me.” He would be back!
Zhouzhou, delighted, nodded vigorously, clutching the candy. She waved her chubby hand, then shared the candy with Huo Ji’an, comforting him, “Little Skinny Pole, don’t worry. Uncle Yu’s luck will turn around soon, and he’ll earn lots of money. If not, you can join Brother Dafu and me selling things; we can make money too.”

“Okay,” Huo Ji’an nodded, smiling at her. He unwrapped the candy but didn’t eat it himself, offering it to Yu Ze instead, “Daddy, you eat.”
Yu Ze didn’t refuse, taking the candy as he looked at the radiant smile of the little boy. He glanced outside, wondering how someone could see such a good child in such a negative light.
Not long after, Nini came over to fetch Zhouzhou.
Zhouzhou waved at Huo Ji’an and Yu Ze, “I’m going to check on Granny.”
Yu Ze nodded, picking up Huo Ji’an as they rose to leave. “I’ll walk you back.”
The village had no streetlights.
Zhouzhou’s eyes sparkled, “Okay, okay.”
They walked to Nini’s house, none of them dwelling on the earlier incident, as if an insignificant person had merely passed by.
At the door, Zhouzhou looked back at Yu Ze, his face still showing traces of anger, and cautioned, “Uncle Yu, be careful and don’t trust people easily.”
Saying that, she waved and went inside with Nini.
Yu Ze, puzzled by her words, nodded and headed towards their temporary residence with Huo Ji’an in his arms.
Zhouzhou, still uneasy, reached into her bag, quietly releasing an evil spirit with a protective charm, whispering, “Take care of Uncle Yu and keep him safe.”
“Got it!” The evil spirit twirled triumphantly in the air, hovering above the ancient curse.
See, he was the ghost the little celestial master trusted the most!
“Wait for my good news,” he said before zooming off.
Nini shivered as a gust of wind passed, blinking in confusion, “Zhouzhou, let’s hurry inside.”
“Mm-hmm.”
Hand in hand, the two girls ran into the house.
Meanwhile, Yu Ze had just put Huo Ji’an to sleep when a child from the host family came in, eating a chocolate bar and saying someone was looking for him outside. The child didn’t say who it was before running off.
Glancing at the peacefully sleeping Huo Ji’an, Yu Ze went out. Seeing who was outside, his face darkened, and he turned to go back inside.
Lin Wan quickly approached, hugging him and saying pitifully, “Senior brother, are you still going to reject me?”
An Ya, nearby, floated over munching on sunflower seeds, offering some to the evil spirit. Watching the scene unfold, she marveled at the drama. Was she really throwing herself at him?
The evil spirit, also intrigued, floated inside and soon returned with a camera, hiding in the bushes to figure out how to use it. An Ya, more experienced, turned it on, holding her seeds with a gleam of excitement in her eyes.
