Chapter 394: The Consequences of Illiteracy
“What is this?”
Zhouzhou curiously shook the stack of papers in her hand, unaware that she was holding them upside down. After a moment of examination, she shook her head, unable to understand.
She was about to throw them into the trash can, but Jinbao let out an urgent “meow” and looked anxiously at her, first at the papers and then at her. The cat’s face was filled with concern.
“This is the plan of your former caretaker to trick your father!” Jinbao thought.
But Zhouzhou failed to comprehend its meaning. She scooped up the cat into her arms and, seeing that it was still trying to reach for the papers, she quickly covered its paws and said solemnly, “You can’t eat this.”
With that, she lifted her tiny paw and tossed the papers into the trash can, then walked out with Jinbao in her arms.
Jinbao gazed reluctantly at the trash can, its paw extended as if to reach out, but eventually settled reluctantly in Zhouzhou’s embrace.
It had anticipated so much, never expecting that the young illiterate would not be able to read. Poor thing, its sincere intention had been wasted.
“Daddy!” Zhouzhou ran up to the sofa and leaped into Qin Lie’s arms.
Qin Lie hugged his little daughter tightly, still unable to figure out Luo Jin’s intentions after thinking about it for an entire night. His face looked a bit haggard from lack of sleep.
“Daddy, what’s wrong? Didn’t you sleep well?” Zhouzhou noticed and touched his face with concern.
Qin Lie shook his head, “It’s nothing.”
He had just called Ye Lingfeng again, but the phone was still off. He glanced at the black cat on Zhouzhou’s shoulder and furrowed his brows slightly.
Just then, he felt a soft kiss on his forehead. Looking down, he met Zhouzhou’s chubby little face, and her tiny paw gently rubbed his brow. “Daddy, don’t frown. You won’t be handsome. Tell me what’s wrong, and I’ll help.”
With that, the little girl patted her chest confidently.
Qin Lie chuckled helplessly and shook his head, “It’s nothing. Are we going to set up the stall today?”
“Yes, yes!” Zhouzhou would go out with Qin Er every weekend, but they had been busy recently and hadn’t had time. Today was finally a free day.
“Go and prepare,” Qin Lie said, setting the girl down and lifting his chin.
“Okay!” Zhouzhou ran to Qin Er’s room to help him carry the new stock to the car’s trunk.
After eating, the two of them were ready to leave. Qin Lie drove them to the mall.
“Daddy, you can go back now. Come pick me up and Brother Dafu in the evening,” Zhouzhou waved goodbye to Qin Lie as they set up their stall.
“Alright.” Qin Lie rubbed Zhouzhou’s head and admonished her, albeit reluctantly, “If Luo Jin comes to find you, don’t engage with him too much.”
At least wait until they determine his intentions.
“I know,” Zhouzhou nodded obediently.
Qin Lie glanced at her and then stepped away, heading to the office for overtime work.
Over an hour later, his phone rang. It was his mother.
Qin Lie was slightly surprised, not understanding why she was calling him at this hour.
He answered the call and heard his mother angrily ask, “Qin Lie, what are you trying to do? Why are you targeting Little Ye?”
“Don’t be foolish. I know you’re domineering and want to be Zhouzhou’s only father, but Little Ye hasn’t done anything wrong. Moreover, Zhouzhou has already accepted him. If you target him, Zhouzhou won’t forgive you.”
Upon hearing this, Qin Lie furrowed his brows, “Mom, what are you talking about? When did I ever target Ye Lingfeng?”

Over there, Qin’s grandmother shook the paper in her hand, causing it to rustle loudly. She frowned as she gazed at the large title “Thirty-Six Stratagems Against Ye Lingfeng” on the cover.
“You still won’t admit it? These schemes are almost a book now, and you dare to show them to Zhouzhou? What’s your intention? Trying to get Zhouzhou to help you against Little Ye? I warn you, if you dare to meddle in their father-daughter relationship, I won’t recognize you anymore!”
Qin Lie furrowed his brow, truly not understanding what his mother was trying to accomplish with this whole ordeal.
Seeing that he still refused to confess, Qin’s grandmother flipped open a page, her expression disdainful.
“This idea of exploiting vulnerabilities? Little Ye’s vulnerabilities are also yours. What do you intend to do to Zhouzhou?”
What could he possibly do to Zhouzhou?
Qin Lie suddenly realized something, his fingertips pausing, and his expression turning more serious. “Mom, you said this was found in Zhouzhou’s room?”
“Yes, you put it there, so why ask me? And you didn’t even throw it far away, leaving it in Zhouzhou’s room trash can. Don’t you fear Zhouzhou seeing it and getting angry with you?”
Qin Lie was sure he hadn’t thrown anything into Zhouzhou’s room, nor any “Thirty-Six Stratagems.”
A suspicion arose in his heart. “Mom, could you send me a photo of it?”
Seeing his reaction, Qin’s grandmother was also puzzled, wondering if it really wasn’t him.
Then who wrote it?
She reluctantly took a photo and sent it to him.
Upon seeing the contents clearly, Qin Lie was even more convinced that it wasn’t written by him.
As for who had written it, he had a guess.
His fingers tapped lightly on the table, and after a few seconds, he stood up silently and strode outside.
Within an hour, his car came to a stop outside Qin’s house.
He immediately went inside.
“Why are you back so soon?” Qin’s grandmother asked, surprised.
Qin Lie glanced over and saw that she was still holding a stack of papers. He walked over.
“Mom, let me see.”
“Here, take it.”
Qin’s grandmother was perplexed, wondering if it really wasn’t him.
Qin Lie took the papers and flipped through them, his eyes narrowing at a certain point.
It was indeed him.
Without saying anything, he accessed the Qin family’s surveillance footage and saw Jinbao running out. He already guessed the entire situation.
Most likely, Jinbao had obtained it from Luo Jin.
But why it would appear in the trash can remained a mystery.
He was slightly perplexed but didn’t say anything, walking out again without responding to Qin’s grandmother calling after him.
“What’s he up to?” Qin’s grandmother muttered.
Meanwhile, in the mall,
Zhouzhou was cheerfully shouting, “Hairpins! Pretty hairpins, along with bags, flowers, and everything else. Come and take a look!”
She sat on one side, hawking her goods while Qin Er busily crafted lively little items that attracted the attention of many passersby.
Zhouzhou was also busy, introducing products and calculating prices without making a single mistake, earning praise from the customers.
They didn’t expect that despite the girl’s appearance, she was so skilled at accounting.
Zhouzhou proudly shook her little head, of course, money matters, can’t be wrong.
After selling the last item, the two were about to go for lunch when Zhouzhou suddenly noticed something and turned her head, her eyes brightening. “Daddy!”
It was indeed Qin Lie standing not far away.
Qin Lie walked over, ruffled his daughter’s hair, and without wasting time, asked directly, “Zhouzhou, have you seen this before?”
Zhouzhou glanced at it and recognized it as the one she had thrown away in the trash can earlier. She nodded her little head. “Yes, I’ve seen it. What’s wrong?”
Noticing his grave expression, Zhouzhou peeked at the paper through his fingers and looked up with a curious expression. “Daddy, what does it say?”
Qin Lie: “…”
He forgot that his daughter was illiterate.
