Chapter 398: Detoxifying and Saving
After finishing his words, Ye Lingfeng’s eyelids drooped, and he fainted once more. Zhouzhou’s smile, which had just begun to bloom, quickly fell, replaced by a look of worry. She called out anxiously, “Daddy, wake up quickly.”
Despite her persistent calls, Ye Lingfeng remained unresponsive. Zhouzhou placed her small, chubby hand on his pulse and sighed.
Zhao Xinghua, watching nearby, was startled. Had Ye Lingfeng fainted from anger? Wen Jing approached and checked his pulse, and her expression softened. “The poison is halfway neutralized. The rest will take time.”
“Yes,” Zhouzhou nodded vigorously, clutching Ye Lingfeng’s hand. She leaned in close, her small face pressed against his, and whispered, “Daddy, you need to wake up soon.”
She then gave him a kiss on the cheek and hopped off the chair, turning her attention to finding a complete antidote for the poison.
Wen Jing joined her in this task, assisting with the preparation. Zhao Xinghua, observing their dedication, instructed, “Then I’ll leave Little Ye to you two. If you need anything, just let us know.”
“Okay,” they replied in unison.
Soon, the room was left with only Zhouzhou, Wen Jing, and the unconscious Ye Lingfeng.
Jinbao, eyeing the divine light surrounding Ye Lingfeng, felt a strong urge to absorb some of it.
However, just as it prepared to leap, Zhouzhou’s chubby hand grabbed it by the neck.
“No,” Zhouzhou said sternly, holding Jinbao in her arms. “Daddy is still injured. He needs the divine light for himself.”
Defeated, Jinbao slumped, unable to indulge in its desire. Zhouzhou petted it gently and placed it on her head. “You can absorb mine instead.”
Jinbao, crafted with Ye Lingfeng’s divine protective light, had the same effect. Jinbao, thrilled, began to happily absorb the energy.
Outside, Zhao Xinghua finally relaxed a bit. Ye Lingfeng, a rare war god, couldn’t afford to be lost. Walking a few steps, he turned to Chen Tuo, asking, “Can Little Ye still make it to the competition?”
The competition was only days away, and Ye Lingfeng was his favored candidate.
Chen Tuo was uncertain and shook his head. “Depends on when Master Zhou can formulate the antidote.”
He wasn’t overly concerned, as Ye Lingfeng himself wasn’t particularly bothered by titles.
According to Ye Lingfeng, titles were mere formalities, and becoming a leader was more troublesome.
Only Luo Jin, a perpetual second place, yearned to surpass Ye Lingfeng.
Chen Tuo remembered something and asked, “Director Zhao, I heard you set up some checkpoints this time, with those who pass directly advancing to the final showdown?”
This format was new to the island, which usually involved straightforward battles without such embellishments.
“Yes,” Zhao Xinghua confirmed, revealing some details. “We’ve linked it with your ranking system. Those who pass the checkpoints earn double points. You can attempt them as often as you like, but only those who pass will compete in the final round.”
Intrigued, Chen Tuo scratched his chin. This meant few would pass, making it a true test of skill. He turned to Wan Leng, nudging his arm. “Hey, have you tried it?”
To his surprise, Wan Leng nodded solemnly. “Failed the final checkpoint.”
Shocked, Chen Tuo couldn’t believe it. Wan Leng was the second strongest after their leader. “If you can’t pass, only our boss can, right?”
Unexpectedly, Wan Leng shook his head again. “Someone has already passed.”
“Who?” Chen Tuo was confused.
“Luo Jin,” Wan Leng replied, his tone grave.
The news stunned Chen Tuo. Luo Jin was their perennial rival. Determined not to fall behind, he dragged Wan Leng along, saying, “Let’s go. I need to try this.”
Zhao Xinghua watched them leave without intervening. The rules allowed for unlimited attempts, and each reset changed the checkpoints, making it nearly impossible to rely solely on persistence.

He was confident that only five at most would pass this time. Satisfied, he walked away smiling.
In a nearby tree, Luo Jin, dressed in red, lazily opened his eyes, looking at the pass card in his hand with boredom.
Glancing towards Ye Lingfeng’s room, he frowned slightly. The competition would be dull without him, and he didn’t want to win by default.
He hoped the little girl could wake him soon for a proper showdown.
Zhouzhou shared the same wish. After two or three days of research with Wen Jing, they finally developed an antidote.
Holding the prescription, Zhouzhou felt nervous for the first time. Looking up at Wen Jing, she asked worriedly, “Sister Marvelous, will Daddy wake up this time?”
“Definitely,” Wen Jing reassured her, confident in Zhouzhou’s skill. However, looking at the sheets of paper with single large characters, she couldn’t help but comment, “Zhouzhou, you need to practice your writing.”
Zhouzhou pouted, feeling both aggrieved and defiant. “Senior brother said my writing is beautiful.”
“Oh, he’s just being nice,” Wen Jing replied. Zhouzhou’s senior brother was notorious for doting on her excessively, praising her no matter what. His words weren’t entirely reliable.
Zhouzhou, inspecting her handwriting, scratched her head in confusion. Perhaps it was a bit messy. Determined, she declared, “I’ll practice and get better!”
“Good luck,” Wen Jing encouraged.
Zhouzhou nodded firmly and brought out her small cauldron. “Let’s make the medicine, Sister Marvelous.”
“Alright,” Wen Jing agreed.
Putting the earlier conversation behind them, they focused on the task. After two more hours of hard work, they completed the antidote.
Zhouzhou eagerly ran to the bedside, opened Ye Lingfeng’s mouth, and administered the medicine. She then closely monitored his pulse.
As time passed, watching the dark hue on Ye Lingfeng’s face fade away, they both sighed in relief.
It worked. However, despite waiting for a while, he still didn’t wake up.
Given the severity of the poison, it would take another two days to completely clear it from his system. Fortunately, the antidote was effective.
Jinbao watched eagerly, anticipating the moment it could finally bask in Ye Lingfeng’s divine light.
“You should rest,” Wen Jing said, patting Zhouzhou’s small face with concern. Zhouzhou had barely rested over the past few days.
Zhouzhou nodded and headed towards the door when she suddenly saw a red figure flash by. Intrigued, she exclaimed, “Huh?” and ran outside on her short legs.
