Chapter 490: Watching the Commotion
Zhouzhou couldn’t fathom why he was angry, so she simply stopped trying to understand. She rushed over, blocking the door before it closed, and pulled him out.
“Little Skinny Pole, don’t go.”
Huo Ji’an turned his face away stubbornly. “I am leaving. Don’t mind me. Go play with your brother. Why do you care about me?”
Brother? He meant Wei Xuhong.
Zhouzhou, perplexed, asked, “What does this have to do with my brother?”
Her words seemed to ignite a powder keg. Huo Ji’an glared at her incredulously, “You’re even defending him!”
His voice rose several octaves, “Let go of me! I don’t want to play with you anymore!”
Zhouzhou frowned, utterly confused. She couldn’t help but ask, “Little Skinny Pole, what have you been watching lately?”
Huo Ji’an remained silent. It was nothing much, just some old romantic dramas with scenes like, “Listen to my explanation,” “I don’t want to listen.” He couldn’t understand what they were doing, but it seemed lively.
While he was in a daze, Zhouzhou pulled him to the sofa, preventing him from leaving.
“Little Skinny Pole, how did my brother and I upset you? We are friends, after all. If something bothers you, you should say it. Otherwise, we can’t be friends.”
Hearing this, Huo Ji’an became anxious. He wanted to be friends with Chubby Girl. He glanced at Wei Xuhong, then pouted, feeling wronged.
“You only asked him if he wanted to eat, but you didn’t ask me. You don’t care about me anymore.”
So that was it.
Zhouzhou explained, “If you ate snacks, you wouldn’t be able to eat dinner later, and your anorexia might relapse. That’s why I didn’t ask you.”
Huo Ji’an was stunned. His face flushed as he scratched his cheek in embarrassment and softly said, “Sorry, Chubby Girl, I misunderstood.”
“It’s alright.” Zhouzhou patted her chest generously, “I’m not angry, no need to apologize. Brother isn’t angry either, right?”
Wei Xuhong nodded. In truth, he still didn’t understand why such a trivial matter made him angry, but he said nothing.
Children could be quite possessive of their friends, and Huo Ji’an was especially so. He had a domineering nature.
He pouted, “I’m your best friend.”
“Yes, yes.” Zhouzhou patted his head, “Still angry?”
Huo Ji’an’s ruffled feathers smoothed instantly, and he smiled. “Not angry anymore.”
In no time, the children were laughing and chatting again. From the kitchen, Yu Ze watched this scene, unable to suppress a smile.
Zhouzhou had a commendable temperament, never holding a grudge and resolving issues immediately.
Ji’an, on the other hand, perhaps due to a lack of attention before, rarely expressed her needs, hoping others would notice.
Thinking about this, Yu Ze’s expression turned serious. He planned to find some parenting books to address this. Though he had never raised a child, he wished for Ji’an’s happiness.
While contemplating, his hands moved skillfully, and the aroma of food soon filled the air. Zhouzhou sniffed the air, drooling in anticipation.
Before long, Mrs. Wei brought over several dishes, warmly saying, “Let me know if you want more. I’ll cook more if it’s not enough.”
With her dishes and Yu Ze’s, the table was soon full. Zhouzhou, eyes gleaming, quietly ate her meal without complaint.
Both cooks had great skills, and the meal was a lively, joyous affair. Afterward, while they rested, Qin Ze went to the kitchen to wash the dishes.

During the meal, they learned more about each other. Upon hearing that Zhouzhou was treating Wei Hai’s illness, Yu Ze reassured them, “Zhouzhou’s medical skills are excellent, no need to worry.”
He pointed to his face, “This scar used to be deep. Even cosmetic treatments couldn’t promise no scar, but it’s healed now.”
At this, Zhouzhou remembered and hurried over to inspect. It had been about a month, and the scar, now a faint pink, could be easily covered during filming.
Satisfied, Zhouzhou nodded, “I’ll adjust the formula. Keep using it, Uncle Yu.”
“Alright.” Yu Ze smiled.
Mrs. Wei, who had previously seen his frighteningly deep scar, was now impressed by Zhouzhou’s skills, feeling reassured.
They chatted for a while longer before Qin Ze glanced at the time, “I have some business to attend to shortly.”
Understanding, Mrs. Wei got up, “I’ll head back then. With the surgery approaching, I need to prepare some clothes for the hospital stay.”
“Okay.”
Wei Xuhong left with her, arranging to play with Zhouzhou later. After seeing them off, Zhouzhou turned to Yu Ze with puppy eyes, “Uncle Yu, is there any more food? I’m still hungry.”
He had anticipated this. Without knowing Zhouzhou was coming, they had prepared a regular amount of food, insufficient for her.
Huo Ji’an asked curiously, “Chubby Girl, why didn’t you say you were still hungry earlier?”
Zhouzhou scratched her head, “Auntie was so enthusiastic. I was afraid she’d cook more and eat her out of house and home.”
Remembering her appetite, Huo Ji’an nodded seriously. True, Chubby Girl could really eat.
“It’s okay. Eat as much as you want at my house.”
“Okay!”
Zhouzhou looked expectantly at Yu Ze.
Yu Ze chuckled, pinching her topknot, “I’ll cook more. You and Ji’an play for a bit.”
“Alright, thank you, Uncle Yu.”
“You’re welcome.”
Understanding her appetite, Yu Ze cooked a large pot of rice and quickly fried a few dishes. After eating, Zhouzhou reclined on the sofa, rubbing her full belly contentedly, “I’m stuffed.”
Huo Ji’an, about to speak, was startled by a sharp voice.
“How have you been taking care of Mom? Look at how thin she’s become!”
Other voices joined in.
Confused, Zhouzhou was pulled to the window by Huo Ji’an, who pointed outside, “They’re arguing.”
It seemed he was used to this. Zhouzhou, curious, peered out to see a man and a woman, with the woman pushing an elderly person in a wheelchair.
The man, furious, yelled at the woman, “She’s our mother! How could you not take proper care of her? You’ve got no conscience!”
The woman, looking weary, kept her head down, saying nothing. Onlookers, like them, peered out of windows.
From above, someone commented, “That woman is really unfilial. I’ve heard her mother scolding her daily.”
Hearing this, Zhouzhou’s ears perked up. “Why isn’t he pushing the wheelchair then?”
