Chapter 517: The Appearance of Wang Yao
It was twilight, the sky growing dark. As soon as Zhouzhou stepped out, she noticed a red figure darting towards her, glancing back with a look of panic.
Recognizing the spirit, Zhouzhou withheld her peach wood sword. Was it her? The beautiful sister.
Wang Yao ran swiftly, but the sword behind her was faster. Just as it was about to strike, a dog leaped forward to block it.
“Little Black!” Zhouzhou exclaimed, tapping her toe on the ground to propel herself up, slicing the sword in two with her peach wood blade.
“Little Black, are you alright?” she asked anxiously. Little Black didn’t respond, instead lunging at Wang Yao.
But Wang Yao, now a spirit, left it grasping at air. The dog fell to the ground, then looked at her with a sorrowful gaze, holding onto her trouser leg and wagging its tail.
Seeing Little Black’s affection towards Wang Yao, a realization dawned on Zhouzhou. “So the beautiful sister was the one who kept Little Black.”
As soon as the words were spoken and before Wang Yao could respond, a small black figure darted quickly toward Zhouzhou. It leaped onto her shoulder and bounced twice in displeasure.
Jinbao was filled with jealousy. It remembered being called “Little Black” in the past, so why should this dog be given the same name?
Jinbao was completely forgetting that it was the one who had rejected the name in the first place. Regardless, even if it remembered, it wouldn’t allow anyone else to have the name it didn’t want!
“Jinbao!” Zhouzhou hugged it joyfully. “You’re back.”
Jinbao lifted its head and leaped onto the shoulder of the approaching red-clad figure, glaring at Zhouzhou. Hmph, it was still angry. It wouldn’t forgive her just because of a few words. Jinbao had seen everything; back at the film set, she had been protecting that little black dog.
Zhouzhou, feeling a bit dejected, looked up and was surprised to see who it was. “Brother Fox? Why are you here?”
Luo Jin disdainfully grabbed Jinbao by the tail, tossing it back into Zhouzhou’s arms. He had noticed her protectiveness towards the spirit and, with a pointed look, said, “Ask it.”
Confused, Zhouzhou looked down at Jinbao. Despite being in her arms, Jinbao still held its head high with pride.
Zhouzhou scratched its chin, “Jinbao, what did you do?”
Jinbao ignored her. Zhouzhou, eyes darting, ran inside and fetched some fish snacks, offering them to Jinbao. “Here, sweet Jinbao, eat up and don’t be angry. You’re still my favorite.”
Hearing this, Jinbao’s ears twitched, glancing at Little Black. Zhouzhou quickly added, “Little Black is with Little Skinny Pole.”
Upon hearing this, Jinbao’s expression finally softened a bit. It let out a light snort, took a fierce bite of the small fish snack, and closed its eyes contentedly.
After eating and drinking its fill, it finally stopped putting on airs. With its chubby little paw, it pointed in Wang Yao’s direction, let out a “meow,” and swallowed. It signaled that it had come for her. However, since she ran too fast and it couldn’t catch her, it happened to run into its former owner and asked for help.
As it gestured, its cat eyes remained fixed on Wang Yao, drooling.
Watching this, Little Black ran to stand protectively in front of Wang Yao, baring its toothless mouth at Jinbao.
Seeing this, the fierceness in Wang Yao’s eyes faded slightly, replaced by a gentle gaze as she looked at Jinbao. In the next moment, she floated in front of it, assuming a protective stance.
In truth, what unnerved her more than this fierce little cat was the young girl beside her. Despite the girl’s soft and cute appearance, Wang Yao couldn’t help but shiver whenever she saw her. Her instincts told her that this seemingly innocent child was not to be trifled with.
Zhouzhou quickly assured, “Little Black, beautiful sister, don’t be afraid. I won’t harm you.”
She sheathed her peach wood sword and, turning to Luo Jin, added, “Brother Fox, you won’t attack her either, right?”
Luo Jin, arms crossed, leaned casually against a wall. “She’s an evil spirit. Are you sure you want to protect her?”
“It’s not that. The beautiful sister hasn’t done anything wrong,” Zhouzhou explained.
“She became an evil spirit due to the heavy resentment from her death, not because she wanted to harm anyone.”
Luo Jin could naturally see the situation as well. Hearing these words, he frowned slightly. “But she’s already an evil spirit. Leaving such a spirit in the world brings nothing but harm.”

As a member of the Spirit Team of the Fourth Bureau, his task was to eradicate evil spirits from the world.
Luo Jin frowned slightly, but Zhouzhou persisted, “Master said we shouldn’t judge someone solely by the outcome but also by their journey. If we do otherwise, we’re no different from the evil spirits.”
The Ancestral Master nodded in approval. Zhouzhou, though young, spoke wisely.
Luo Jin, contemplating her words, straightened up and put away his peach wood sword, silently expressing his agreement.
Zhouzhou smiled brightly at him. “Thank you, Brother Fox.”
Caught off guard by her smile, Luo Jin awkwardly turned away.
Ye Lingfeng’s daughter indeed had a charm that was hard to resist.
Unaware of his thoughts, Zhouzhou, holding Jinbao, set up a few chairs and invited them to sit. “Brother Fox, beautiful sister, please have a seat. Can you tell us what happened?”
Just then, Qin Lie approached, having overheard the conversation. He patted Zhouzhou’s head and asked, “Do you still have any Eye-Opening Talisman? Give one to your second uncle.”
Realizing his intention, Zhouzhou quickly distributed talismans to everyone present, except for Huo Ji’an. “I can’t give you one, Little Skinny Pole. You’ll be too scared to sleep.”
Confused but compliant, Huo Ji’an sat quietly on the sofa.
After distributing the talismans, Zhouzhou pulled out one more for Wang Yao.
At first, Wang Yao was instinctively wary. But in the next moment, something soft suddenly bumped into her leg. She looked down and saw Xiao Hei, her eyes widening in surprise.
She could touch her baby now!
Little Black also realized this, wagging its tail happily as it climbed up her leg. Seeing this, Wang Yao felt a lump in her throat. She bent down, scooped it into her arms, and gently rubbed her face against its head.
Taking a deep breath, Wang Yao confessed, “I did commit suicide, but I was driven to it. I had no other choice but to jump.”
Her words were filled with pain, and her resentment surged. The evil spirit quickly absorbed it, casting a reassuring glance at Zhouzhou.
