Chapter 532: I Love Money, and Money Loves Me
On the island.
Chen Tuo, gripping a man’s arm, pushed him into the room and addressed the figure behind the desk, “Boss, I’ve brought him.”
The man, appearing in his forties, looked honest but bore a guilty expression as he faced Ye Lingfeng. “I’m sorry, Captain Ye. I didn’t pay attention and spoke too much during dinner, letting someone overhear and reveal the young lady’s identity.”
Filled with remorse, he continued, “You can punish me.”
Chen Tuo, standing nearby, interjected in his defense. This man, named Li Wei, had been with them for some time but mostly stayed in the training camp, handling logistics rather than frontline duties.
“Boss, it wasn’t intentional. Master Zhou is fine now, so let’s just let it go.”
Ye Lingfeng ignored him, handing over a document from the desk to both Chen Tuo and Li Wei.
They opened it, and upon reading, Chen Tuo’s expression darkened while Li Wei, abandoning his previous docile demeanor, quickly scrambled towards the door.
However, Ye Lingfeng, who had been sitting moments before, now stood behind him, and with a swift kick, sent Li Wei flying.
With his hands in his pockets, Ye Lingfeng approached him step by step. His imposing figure and reputation struck fear into Li Wei, who paled and knelt, pleading, “Captain Ye, I was wrong. I shouldn’t have betrayed you. I won’t do it again.”
He sobbed uncontrollably, explaining, “I was tricked into gambling by those people. They threatened to kill me if I didn’t answer their questions. Captain Ye, I really know I was wrong.”
“I didn’t even reveal her gender. Miss Zhouzhou is safe now. Please spare me.”
Ye Lingfeng chuckled coldly, his eyes devoid of humor. He grabbed Li Wei by the collar and lifted him, “Are you suggesting that I should thank you?”
Li Wei shook his head vigorously, crying miserably. Ye Lingfeng, losing patience, released him, letting him fall to the ground.
Turning to Chen Tuo, he commanded, “You handle it.”
With that, he strode out of the room.
Chen Tuo gazed at Li Wei with a complex expression and sighed. They had all signed confidentiality agreements before joining the Fourth Bureau.
Betraying any information about the bureau or its members was considered treason.
Li Wei had made a grave mistake. Despite his possible reasons, Ye Lingfeng only cared about ensuring Zhouzhou’s safety.
Soon, anguished cries echoed behind him as he walked away. Reaching the door, Ye Lingfeng took out a cigarette but didn’t light it, merely smelling it.
Zhao Xinghua approached, hearing the commotion inside, and seeing Ye Lingfeng, asked, “Why not smoke? No lighter?”
Ye Lingfeng shook his head, “I have to go back soon. Zhouzhou will wake up and look for me. She shouldn’t smell smoke on me.”
He couldn’t hide his pride while speaking. Zhao Xinghua rolled his eyes. Showing off his daughter again!
Speaking of Zhouzhou, Zhao Xinghua remembered something, “Zhouzhou’s summer break is coming up, right? Do you plan to bring her to the island for training? She needs to be prepared for these situations.”
This time, Ye Lingfeng didn’t outright refuse, “I’ll ask her.”
With that, he left. It was nearly time for Zhouzhou to wake up. He didn’t want Qin Lie to beat him to her.
He wanted to be the first person she saw upon waking.
Zhao Xinghua watched his retreating figure, his lips twitching slightly as he guessed his thoughts. This doting father!
Ye Lingfeng moved quickly, and by the time he arrived at the hotel, Zhouzhou was just stepping out of her room.
“Sharp Tongue Daddy?” Rubbing her eyes, she saw him and ran over, hugging his leg.

She sniffed and asked, “Daddy, did you go to the island?”
Ye Lingfeng raised an eyebrow, “How did you know?”
She grinned, “I smelled the sea. Daddy, I want to eat fish.”
Ye Lingfeng chuckled, picking her up and pinching her chubby cheek, “Let’s go eat.”
“Yes, and let’s bring Daddy and Little Skinny Pole too.”
Annoyed by the idea of extra company, Ye Lingfeng sighed but headed towards Qin Lie’s room.
Before he could knock, the door opened from inside.
They exchanged a glance, mutually displeased.
Qin Lie’s gaze fell on Zhouzhou, and he extended a hand, “Come, I’ll brush your hair.”
Oh, right, her hair wasn’t done yet. Zhouzhou extended her arms to him.
Annoyed but not wanting to miss out on time with his daughter, Ye Lingfeng followed them, saying, “Zhouzhou, I can braid hair too.”
Zhouzhou, seeing his hopeful face, thought for a moment and pointed to the right side of her head, “Then you do this side, Daddy.”
Qin Lie glanced at him but cooperatively moved aside.
Ye Lingfeng raised an eyebrow, doubting whether he could be this considerate. He wasn’t usually the type, after all. Still, he wasn’t willing to give up spending time with his little girl. How hard could it be to style her hair?
Confidently, he picked up the comb, thinking it was a breeze after watching Qin Jie’s skilled hands at work. “Just a matter of tying little pigtails and twisting them into antennae,” he thought.
Rolling up his sleeves, he grabbed a small section of Zhouzhou’s hair, but it didn’t take long before his brows knitted together in frustration. Why was her hair so slippery?
He fumbled with the strands, managing to fix one part only for another section to slip out of place. After much effort, he finally got it all together, but the bun was too loose, and the hair that was supposed to stick up like little antennas drooped down, resembling something more like a spiked club.
Zhouzhou stared at her reflection, bewildered by the wolf fang-like hairstyle.
Zhouzhou looked puzzled at the uneven result in the mirror.
She tried to fix the drooping hair but it fell again. She turned to Ye Lingfeng, blinking in confusion.
Ye Lingfeng glanced at the other side of Zhoazhou’s hair, which Qin Jie had styled with perfectly upright and lively antenna-like buns. Then he looked at his own handiwork, where the buns drooped sadly, lacking any vigor. Not one to admit defeat, he quickly offered an explanation,
“This is more grounded—it’s all about attracting wealth from every direction. You need to absorb it from all sides to truly become rich.”
Zhoazhou’s eyes lit up, suddenly understanding. With a wide grin, she beamed at him, “Daddy is so smart!”
She grabbed onto the two antenna-like buns with her little chubby hands, murmuring something under her breath. Curious, Ye Lingfeng bent down slightly to hear her better.
He then caught her chanting, “I love money, money loves me, money comes from all directions, I love money, money loves me…”
Ye Lingfeng: “…”
