Chapter 696: Caught Slacking Off
“You lied to me!” Huo Ji’an glared angrily at Huo Mingxuan, his eyes burning with fury.
He had been worried that his former father was seriously injured and offered to help getting his medicine.
But when he returned to ask for directions, he overheard him telling the doctor to exaggerate his condition.
Now he finally understood why Chubby Girl had said he was fine when she checked his pulse, but he kept complaining of pain.
It was all an act! He stared at Huo Mingxuan with widened eyes, dropping the papers from his hand.
“I want nothing to do with you anymore, you big liar!” With that, he turned and grabbed Yu Ze, ready to run.
In his desperation, Huo Mingxuan abandoned the pretense and immediately got out of the wheelchair, striding forward to stop him. “Listen to my explanation,” he pleaded.
But Huo Ji’an turned away, his mouth pouting stubbornly. “I won’t listen!” He refused to believe him anymore; he was nothing but a big liar!
Seeing his son’s reaction, Huo Mingxuan felt a pang of headache. Everything had been going smoothly, and who could have anticipated this sudden turn of events?
If he had known, he wouldn’t have come to the hospital in the first place. Regret gnawed at him, but it was too late now.
He held onto Huo Ji’an tightly, ignoring his struggles, and with a worried expression on his face, he didn’t even spare a glance at his reopened wound.
“Listen to me,” Huo Mingxuan said in a solemn tone, regardless of whether Huo Ji’an was willing to listen or not, he poured out his explanation.
“I did this because I wanted to spend more time with you. I know I was wrong in the past, and I neglected many things. Can you give me a chance to make amends?”
His eyes were sincere, and for the first time, his usually arrogant face showed signs of unease.
Yu Ze stood quietly, his emotions stirred as he gazed down at Huo Ji’an, waiting for his response. Forgive or not, that was the question.
Zhouzhou crouched by the door, her curious fortune pigtails peeking out ahead of her, eager to hear Huo Ji’an’s answer before anyone else.
Huo Ji’an froze upon hearing the question. It took him a while to come back to his senses. Just as he was about to speak, a sudden “ouch!” came from the doorway.
He turned his head to see Zhouzhou sprawled on the ground, sunflower seeds scattered everywhere. Zhouzhou was momentarily stunned by the unexpected fall, but quickly scrambled to her feet, offering them an awkward smile, her face turning slightly red.
She had been so eager to hear the answer that she leaned too far forward, lost her balance, and toppled over. Getting caught eavesdropping was a little embarrassing.
Qin Jie walked over calmly, checking Zhouzhou to make sure she wasn’t hurt before relaxing. With him around, Zhouzhou instantly felt much bolder.
That’s how troublemakers grow up–with someone to back them up, they walk with even more swagger than a crab.
She quickly scampered over to Huo Ji’an’s side, nosily asking, “Little Skinny Pole, are you going to forgive him?”
Huo Ji’an’s face showed hesitation at her question. He had never imagined that his proud, unyielding father would one day admit he was wrong.
If his dad had remained as stubborn as before, Huo Ji’an would have been able to retaliate without hesitation. But now, seeing him show vulnerability like this left Huo Ji’an uncertain about how to respond.
Seeing that he didn’t outright reject the idea, Huo Mingxuan’s eyes gradually lit up with hope.
After some thought, Huo Ji’an glanced at Yu Ze and finally nodded. “I forgive you.”
Huo Mingxuan was overjoyed, but his joy was short-lived as Huo Ji’an continued, “I forgive you and don’t blame you, but I already have a father now. However, don’t worry, in the future, I’ll take care of you too.” With a sense of satisfaction, he nodded.
Hearing this, Zhouzhou couldn’t help but feel a twinge of sympathy for Huo Mingxuan.
She picked up the scattered melon seeds from the ground and handed them to him. Since he no longer had a son, he might as well have some melon seeds.
Huo Mingxuan held the melon seeds in his hand, his expression contorted. If only he could get some comfort from her pocket!

He looked at Huo Ji’an, feeling somewhat hurt. “Since you’ve forgiven me, why can’t you agree to come home with me?”
“I already have a home,” Huo Ji’an said firmly, holding Yu Ze’s hand tightly, displaying trust and dependence he had never experienced before.
No, he had experienced it before, but he hadn’t cherished it and had pushed it away time and time again. Disappointed and having had enough, he had left.
In an instant, Huo Mingxuan suddenly understood why the little girl from Qin family had advised him not to try to take his son back but to join them instead.
For the current Huo Ji’an, Yu Ze was his father, and he would never abandon him. And joining them was the only way he could get closer to him.
With this realization, Huo Mingxuan’s heart calmed down. With his hands in his pockets, he regained his former cunning demeanor, but compared to his previous detestable arrogance, his expression was now calm.
He looked at Yu Ze and spoke slowly, “I heard you don’t have a manager now. Huo Corporation has recently founded an entertainment company. Are you interested in joining?”
Huo Corporation had never ventured into the entertainment industry before, but with its capabilities and resources, once it entered, it would undoubtedly have absolute advantages.
There was no need to think about how powerful it would become in the future.
Seeing him remain silent, thinking he was hesitating, Huo Mingxuan continued, “The entire company will only sign you as an artist, and all resources will be at your disposal.”
Upon hearing this, Yu Ze was stunned. Even if his acting skills were not bad, under the full operation of Huo Corporation, he would definitely become a hit.
After a moment of surprise, Yu Ze’s heart settled down. He shook his head, “Mr. Huo, we’re not close enough for me to accept such a big favor from you.”
Unexpectedly, Zhouzhou stared at him intently and whispered something in Huo Ji’an’s ear. Huo Ji’an’s eyes lit up, and he immediately tugged at Yu Ze’s sleeve, excitedly urging, “Dad, please agree!”
Chubby Girl had said that when she heard his former father brought up the offer, Yu Ze’s face suddenly showed the sign of wealthy. He would reach the peak of life in the future. How could he refuse!
Surprised by his words, Yu Ze also hesitated, looking down at him. “Are you sure?”
Huo Ji’an nodded vigorously, “Of course, of course!”
If there’s money to be made, why not make it?
Zhouzhou also nodded along, afraid he might not agree, and looked at him with expectant eyes. If she were interested in acting, she would have wanted to join too.
With both kids urging him, Yu Ze smiled helplessly and turned to Huo Mingxuan. “Alright, I agree.”
However, he wouldn’t take advantage of him too much; he would give back the same value. He knew that Huo Mingxuan was doing this for Ji’an.
It was precisely because of this that he didn’t want to take advantage of him. He didn’t want to become Huo Ji’an’s weakness.
He didn’t voice this thought, and Zhouzhou didn’t know either; she was just an ordinary bystander, munching on melon seeds, and her ears were suddenly grabbed.
“Stop staring! Hurry up and get to work!”
