Chapter 707: Family Reunion
Gong Sheng was momentarily stunned, not yet comprehending when the door was pushed open from outside.
Following closely behind was Gong Pingyuan, accompanied by a timid young woman. She bore a striking resemblance to the photograph, even more so in person.
Gong Sheng rushed forward in excitement, his eyes welling up with tears. “Panpan!”
Gong Panpan looked at him, her expression puzzled and hesitant. “Mr. Gong?”
In the early hours of the morning, she received a sudden phone call claiming she was the daughter of the company’s chairman.
Initially dismissing it as a prank, she was taken aback when Mr. Gong himself arrived downstairs to pick her up.
Dazed and confused, she was swiftly escorted onto a plane. If it weren’t for knowing Gong Pingyuan, she might have even suspected she was being kidnapped.
Later, Gong Pingyuan explained the situation to her, but she still felt disoriented. Only faint memories stirred within her; she vaguely recalled living in a large house as a child, always trailing behind a boy whom she called big brother.
However, she only had four younger brothers, believing it to be nothing more than a dream. Even now, she could hardly believe it.
Watching Gong Sheng, she couldn’t help but feel nervous, fidgeting with her clothes. Hearing his endearment, her heart clenched. “Panpan, I’m your dad.”
Gong Panpan hesitated, struggling to find her voice. “Mr. Gong, perhaps you should double-check? Is it possible that you’ve found the wrong person?”
Having grown up in a small village, she dared not entertain the thought of being the daughter of a wealthy family.
Even if it were a dream, it seemed too far-fetched to imagine. Moreover, during the plane journey, Gong Pingyuan mentioned that it was Mrs. Gong who wished to meet her.
She had heard of her before, known for her philanthropy and gentle demeanor. She didn’t want to deceive her.
At that moment, Zhouzhou finished her last dumpling, patting her chubby paws and hopping off her chair, toddling towards her.
Tilting her little face upwards, she scrutinized Panpan for a while before declaring, “You’re family, there’s a connection between you two.”
Perplexed by her words, Gong Panpan couldn’t grasp their meaning. Sensing her hesitation, Grandpa Qin spoke up, “Let’s do a paternity test. It will settle any doubts without the need for further debate.”
They had no grounds to argue here.
Gong Pingyuan interjected, “It’s already been done.” He had anticipated Panpan’s skepticism, secretly hoping his mother would meet her true daughter.
Thus, upon their arrival, he immediately handed over samples of their hair to his assistant for an expedited test. As he glanced at the results on his phone, tears welled up in his eyes, mirroring Panpan’s excitement. They had finally found their sister!
Observing his reaction, Gong Sheng understood the situation. Gong Panpan also stared at the results in disbelief.
— According to the test, the similarity in their DNA indicated a 99.99% probability of a biological relationship.
Her eyes widened in shock. She was, indeed, their daughter/sister!
“Panpan! My daughter!” Gong Sheng enveloped her in a tight embrace. “I’ve finally found you!”
Unable to contain himself, Gong Pingyuan’s tears streamed down his face. Gong Panpan stood frozen, unsure of how to react.
On the sickbed, sensing something, Grandma Gong struggled to open her eyes, her voice hoarse. “Panpan…”
Instantly, Gong Pingyuan realized, rushing to his mother’s side. “Mom, Panpan’s found! She’s back!”
Initially dazed, Panpan’s heart swelled with an unfamiliar warmth upon seeing Grandma Gong’s eyes.
“Mom,” she blurted out instinctively, then paused, startled by her own words.
In the next moment, a vivid image flashed in her mind. A gentle woman holding a little girl, her voice soothing as she told stories.

The girl, restless, played with a pen on the table, dirtying her hands. The woman didn’t scold her, instead affectionately tapping her forehead before leading her to the bathroom to wash her hands.
It was a scene Panpan had dreamt of countless times, always blurry and indistinct. But this time, it was crystal clear. That woman… was her! She was her mother!
Grandma Gong stared at the girl before her, her eyes widening, tears streaming down her face without a word spoken.
Unable to contain herself any longer, Panpan knelt by the bedside, tightly gripping Grandma’s hand, tears cascading down her cheeks. “Mom!” she cried out, her voice filled with anguish.
“Panpan…” Grandma Gong wept, her gaze never leaving her daughter’s face, despite her frailty.
Mother and daughter wept uncontrollably, leaving Grandma unable to hold back her own tears. Witnessing this, Grandpa Qin reached out to comfort her.
Qin Ze, a doctor accustomed to life and death, felt a pang of sorrow. “Zhouzhou, do you have any way to save Mrs Gong?”
Zhouzhou shook her head, truthfully admitting, “I can’t. It’s too late. Grandma Gong’s life has reached its end.”
She wasn’t a deity. Grandma Gong’s organs were already failing, beyond her ability to save. If she could have saved her, she would have acted yesterday.
Hearing this, Qin Ze’s gaze dimmed, looking at them with sympathy. The rest of the Qin family couldn’t help but sigh.
A once happy family, forcibly torn apart by despicable human traffickers!
Gong Sheng, standing beside them, overheard Zhouzhou’s words, his eyes reflecting pain. It seemed that finding his daughter had lifted Grandma Gong’s spirits somewhat.
By noon, she could even speak more clearly. However, the phrase “a flicker before death” weighed heavily on everyone’s hearts, dampening any joy.
Gong Sheng and Gong Pingyuan could sense the somber atmosphere. Though grief-stricken, they maintained a composed demeanor, engaging in conversation with them as if nothing was amiss.
Suddenly, Grandma Gong spoke up, “Panpan’s birthday is in two days. It would be wonderful if we could celebrate together.”
Hearing this, Panpan’s nose tingled. After being abducted by traffickers, she was sold to her current parents.
Unfortunately, they only bought her because they heard her sister could bring them a son, as evident from naming her “Zhaodi”(pray for a younger brother).
Not long after, her stepmother became pregnant, giving birth to four boys. But “Zhaodi” received no reward; instead, she became the family’s servant, doing all the housework.
Even when she got into university, it was only after the village chief said that university students earned more money, her parents had reluctantly allowed her to go.
She sent all her earnings home, barely keeping a few hundred yuan for herself each month. Yet, they were still dissatisfied, complaining about her meager contribution.
They never treated her as family, let alone celebrated her birthday. On the contrary, her biological mother never forgot her. Thinking of this, Gong Panpan couldn’t help but cry again.
