Chapter 748: “Let’s Go, Time to Earn Some Money”
Zhao Xinghua was so furious he nearly jumped out of his skin, wishing he could reach through the screen to give Commander a beating.
Commander glanced at him calmly, unfazed, and said, “Is this something you get to decide? Before, the little girl didn’t know how good it is on our side, but after spending some time with us, she definitely won’t be interested in your Fourth Bureau anymore.”
“Impossible!” Zhao Xinghua refused to believe it. “Did you forget I have a secret weapon?”
As he spoke, he glanced at Ye Lingfeng, a smug expression on his face.
Commander noticed this and was almost boiling with jealousy. The Fourth Bureau really had been lucky these past few years–first Ye Lingfeng, and now Zhouzhou. How did all the best talent end up there?
But…
Commander shot Ye Lingfeng a meaningful look and said, “Little Ye, haven’t you learned your lesson yet? The Fourth Bureau can’t be trusted. If they hadn’t had a mole, the little girl wouldn’t have been on a wanted list in the first place. Why not consider joining me? I can guarantee that won’t happen here.”
Though he said this, he wasn’t seriously trying to poach Ye Lingfeng; it was more to get under Zhao Xinghua’s skin.
In their world, there was an unwritten rule: you could try to recruit subordinates, but you never mess with the pillars holding everything up. Besides, with Ye Lingfeng and Xi Mo’s tension, having Ye on his side might not be such a good thing anyway.
Ye Lingfeng understood this and didn’t take it to heart. But at the mention of the mole, his expression darkened. He turned to Zhao Xinghua and asked, “Who was the mole?”
At this, Zhao Xinghua’s face also turned serious as he responded, “It was Wu Ping.”
Wu Ping?!
Ye Lingfeng’s eyes immediately grew cold.
Zhao Xinghua shook his head in disbelief. “If Chen Tuo hadn’t come back to report, and Wu Ping hadn’t tried to sneak over at night to silence him, we might never have suspected him. We were all shocked to find out it was him.”
He suddenly remembered something and quickly turned to Zhouzhou. “By the way, little girl, when can you come back to treat Chen Tuo? He vomited blood the moment he got off the plane; he looks like he’s on death’s door. You need to help him.”
Hearing this, Zhouzhou started giggling, leaving Zhao Xinghua bewildered, not understanding what was so funny.
Zhouzhou didn’t keep him in the dark for long and explained, “Uncle Zhao, don’t worry. My Stinky Little Brother is fine. He took a Road to Riches Pill, that’s why he’s like that.”
As she spoke, she popped a pill into her mouth, and with a loud “pfft,” she spat out blood, scaring Xi Mo half to death.
Zhouzhou, however, acted as if nothing happened. She rinsed her mouth with some water, bounced around a little, and said, “See? It’s nothing serious. My Stinky Little Brother has some healing medicine. After resting and recuperating, he’ll be fine.”
“Oh, I see!” Zhao Xinghua let out a big sigh of relief. He looked at Zhouzhou, both amused and exasperated. “You little rascal, where do you come up with all these strange and mysterious pills?”
“It’s tough out here,” Zhouzhou sighed, raising her head to the sky with a dramatic expression.
Qin Lie gently patted her chubby face, amused.
Now that they knew Chen Tuo was okay and the mole had been caught, Zhao Xinghua finally felt some relief. However, the island was no longer safe. Its location had been compromised, and they had to relocate quickly. It was a shame–all those years of work ruined by Wu Ping’s treachery!
Grinding his teeth in anger, Zhao Xinghua stormed off to find Wu Ping again. After what they’d been through, there was no way Wu Ping would get a clean end.
Ye Lingfeng let him go and focused back on Zhouzhou, his eyes lingering on her, unable to look away. After a while, he turned to Xi Mo and asked, “When does the training start?”
“We leave today.”
With so many enemies lurking around, and danger everywhere, he couldn’t rest easy about Zhouzhou.
Ye Lingfeng nodded, saying no more.
He looked at Zhouzhou with eyes full of concern and instructed, “If you can’t handle it, we can always quit. There’s no need to join the Fourth Bureau. I’ll work hard to make enough money to take care of you, and I’ll keep myself safe. You don’t need to protect me.”
Zhouzhou tilted her head, looked at him, and nodded, “Okay, okay.”

She felt confident she could handle it, but since her dad had said so, she didn’t want him to worry.
Seeing her so obedient, Ye Lingfeng finally relaxed a bit. With the decision made, he didn’t dwell on it any longer. After instructing Xi Mo to take good care of Zhouzhou, he left to deal with those who had caused trouble.
As Zhouzhou munched on a big apple, she suddenly asked Xi Mo, “What about my scholarship?”
Their final exams were coming up, and Brother Dafu had said that the top scorer would receive a scholarship. Zhouzhou had never earned a scholarship before, and she was excited about the prospect, not wanting to miss it.
Xi Mo hadn’t expected her to bring this up–it was an issue, indeed. He had originally planned to take her for training during the winter break, but things had escalated, forcing them to leave early. Now, sending her back to school would be too dangerous.
It was Qin Lie who stepped in and said, “I’ll talk to the school. You can take your exams remotely.”
“But I still have classes to finish!” Zhouzhou said softly, counting on her little fingers. After all, they had already paid for tuition.
Qin Lie gave her a look. “You’re practically in fourth grade now with how much you’ve learned from your brother. Do you really need to attend classes?”
Zhouzhou blinked innocently. Wasn’t it a bit wasteful?
She scooted closer and whispered in Qin Lie’s ear, “Dad, could you ask the principal to refund the money for the classes I missed?”
Qin Lie: “…”
This was the first time he had ever heard someone ask for a refund from school.
Sighing in exasperation, he poked her forehead. “No refunds. You’re the one taking time off.”
“But I had no choice,” Zhouzhou said, flopping dramatically into his arms, clutching her chest. The thought of not earning the scholarship and not getting a refund made her feel miserable.
Seeing her act like this, Qin Lie and Xi Mo both looked away, trying to hold back their laughter.
Finally, Commander couldn’t stand it any longer and said, “How about this? We’ll pay you for the training–200 per day. Sound good?”
At this, Zhouzhou jumped out of Qin Lie’s arms, grabbed Xi Mo’s hand, and said, “Uncle, let’s go!”
Little ungrateful one.
Qin Lie couldn’t help but laugh, walking over to tidy her clothes and said, “Come back for the New Year.”
He worried that, with her love for money, she might not even return for the holidays.
Zhouzhou nodded enthusiastically. “Don’t worry, Dad! I’ll come back and give everyone New Year’s money!”
At that, the people around them couldn’t help but burst out laughing.
Xi Mo gave Qin Lie a look of slight disdain, surprised at the kind of person he was.
Qin Lie’s mouth twitched as he looked at his little girl, eager to make money but not knowing what to say. He waved his hand. “Go on, get going.”
Commander gave Xi Mo a signal, and Xi Mo, carrying Zhouzhou, boarded the plane.
Six hours later, the plane landed.
After a long, exhausting night, Zhouzhou had fallen into a deep sleep in Xi Mo’s arms. He didn’t wake her up, just carried her to her room to rest.
But in the middle of the night, a small figure quietly crept into Xi Mo’s room, sneaking closer.
Xi Mo woke the moment she got near but didn’t open his eyes, curious to see what she was up to.
Unexpectedly, Zhouzhou leaned close to his ear and whispered, “Uncle, let’s go catch some bad guys and make some money!”
