Chapter 750: Eighteen Years of Professional Acting
“After we get off the plane, Zhouzhou, you are not allowed to follow. We will handle it,” Xi Mo said sternly, sitting up straight.
Earlier, he didn’t know that the person involved was Harlo, but now that he did, there was no way he would let Zhouzhou take such a risk. Harlo was extremely dangerous, and on top of that, he had a Burmese python, which was one of the reasons he rose so quickly to become one of the top three drug lords. If Zhouzhou got bitten, where would they even begin to cry over that?
Unexpectedly, Ye Lingfeng gave him a glance and said, “It’s too late.”
Tapping his fingers lightly on his knee, Ye Lingfeng’s brain worked swiftly as he spoke, his voice steady and calm, “Since you’ve already made contact with him, if he doesn’t see Zhouzhou, he will surely suspect something. And if he escapes, who knows when we’ll have another chance to catch him.”
Leaving such a venomous snake watching them from the shadows? Ye Lingfeng couldn’t accept that either.
Now Xi Mo started to feel some regret. Truly, knowing your enemy and yourself leads to victory in every battle. He should never have acted without first fully understanding the situation. He had been oversimplifying this too much.
Zhouzhou turned her head to look at Ye Lingfeng. Seeing his jawline tense and his face showing a seriousness and dread she had never seen before, she grew a little nervous too.
She asked, “Dad, is this bad guy really that powerful?”
Ye Lingfeng nodded, then shook his head. “In a one-on-one fight, he’s not that tough, but he’s extremely cunning. The methods he uses are what make him dangerous.”
Ah, so that’s it. Zhouzhou nodded in realization. Seeing how worried they all were, she tilted her head.
“But Dad, I’m the number one troublemaker from Sanqing Temple!”
How could anyone outwit her? After all, she was an expert at pretending to be weak to defeat stronger enemies!
Hearing her words, Ye Lingfeng turned to her, and as if recalling something, a smile slowly crept onto his face. “True enough.”
And besides, Zhouzhou had a secret weapon.
Pinching the small pouch hanging on her, Ye Lingfeng called out, “Ancestral Master, please come out.”
The Ancestral Master floated out, glancing at him disdainfully. “What now?”
Zhouzhou’s two dads were always causing trouble, and he really didn’t like playing with them. However, when he saw the strong Protective Light of the Nation surrounding Ye Lingfeng, he couldn’t help but gulp. It looked so delicious. Oh, if only he could have that…
Noticing his gaze, Ye Lingfeng calmly tapped his knee with his finger and said, “I’m going to need your help to protect Zhouzhou. Don’t let her get hurt. After it’s all over, I’ll give you a portion of my merits.”
“Really?” The Ancestral Master was thrilled.
Zhouzhou, however, was not happy about it. “No way!” she protested, pouting at the Ancestral Master. “You can’t take Dad’s merits. I’ll earn some for you! All the merits I earn in the future will be yours.”
“Go on, shoo!” the Ancestral Master waved her off, his eyes still glued to Ye Lingfeng, gleaming like two lightbulbs. If they waited for Zhouzhou to earn some, it would take at least a decade. Plus, she had an agreement with the Heaven Thunder: any merits she earned before the age of 18 would belong to it, so she wouldn’t get a single bit.
This was a golden opportunity–he wasn’t going to let it slip!
Ye Lingfeng nodded, “Of course, I keep my promises.”
The Ancestral Master stroked his chin, thinking that Ye Lingfeng seemed trustworthy enough, and immediately a bright smile appeared on his face. “Deal!”
“Ancestral Master!” Zhouzhou puffed up in frustration, her round eyes glaring at him.
Fearing that he might really upset the little girl and she’d stop working for him, the Ancestral Master quickly reassured her, “Relax, relax. You’ll still need to pay me for merits in the future, right? So really, your dad’s merits are technically mine already. I’m just taking back what’s mine.”
“Nonsense,” Zhouzhou huffed. She was too sharp to be fooled. When it came to money, she was a little financial genius. “Once I pay for them, they’re mine! How can they still be yours?”
Caught in his lie, the Ancestral Master coughed awkwardly and leaned closer, whispering, “Come on, give me some face. I’ll even give your dad a bit more merits next time he has a mission.”
“Just let me enjoy this for now, okay?”
Zhouzhou frowned but didn’t argue anymore. She crossed her arms and decided to ignore him.

Ye Lingfeng gently pinched her chubby cheek. “Don’t worry, sweetie. We can always earn more merits. What matters most is your safety.”
Besides, he hadn’t promised how much he’d give, right? Whether it was a small piece or a big chunk–that was up to him. As long as he kept his word, he wouldn’t get struck by lightning.
Seeing that there was no room for negotiation, Zhouzhou reluctantly nodded and turned to the Ancestral Master. “Fine, then lend me some merits for Uncle and Dad now. I’ll repay you later.”
The Ancestral Master’s face twitched. This kid didn’t miss a beat.
With a dramatic wave of his sleeve, he flatly refused, “No way, I don’t do credit.”
Zhouzhou, crossing her little arms, threatened him with a fierce glare. “Then I won’t work for you anymore! My two dads will take care of me–I don’t need to worry about food. But I wonder how long it’ll take for you to recover your golden body, Ancestral Master.”
The Ancestral Master: “…”
Blackmail. This was blatant blackmail!
Ye Lingfeng and Xi Mo both chuckled slightly, watching Zhouzhou with indulgent smiles.
Left with no other choice, the Ancestral Master gritted his teeth and reluctantly parted with a barely visible bit of golden light.
“Happy now?”
Zhouzhou beamed, not minding how little it was. “Very happy!”
She’d already calculated that this trip would be a huge success.
She tugged on Ye Lingfeng’s sleeve, then turned to Xi Mo, saying, “Dad, Uncle, let’s discuss how we’ll collect the money!”
Now that they knew their target was Harlo, the plan needed some adjustments.
Ye Lingfeng nodded, as he had been thinking the same. Xi Mo leaned in, listening to Ye Lingfeng’s revised strategy, his mind reeling at the complexity.
After a while, Xi Mo hesitantly asked, “Won’t this put Zhouzhou in danger?”
The plan called for using Zhouzhou as bait to lure Harlo out, after which they’d swoop in and capture him.
Ye Lingfeng said nothing, only turning his gaze to Zhouzhou.
Xi Mo followed his lead and saw Zhouzhou’s eyes gleaming with excitement, her hands twitching in anticipation.
“I think it’s a great idea!” Zhouzhou said cheerfully. “I have a Fake Death Talisman. Once I use it, I’ll look like I’m dead. He’ll never know!”
Even without the talisman, she could pretend to be dead. Her acting skills were far better than her uncle’s.
Ye Lingfeng added, “He wants to capture Zhouzhou to lure me out. Once I show up, he won’t pay much attention to her.”
Hearing this, Xi Mo finally nodded. He gave Ye Lingfeng a stern warning, “If anything changes, take Zhouzhou and leave immediately.”
Ye Lingfeng raised an eyebrow, “That’s exactly what I was going to tell you.”
The two men exchanged a look but said no more. It didn’t matter who got her out, as long as Zhouzhou was safe.
Meanwhile, Zhouzhou rubbed her little hands together. She wasn’t going anywhere. She had a fortune to make!
