Chapter 801: Dual Personality
As soon as Zhouzhou finished speaking, she raised her sword and thrust it toward Lu Mingyuan. A dark gleam flashed in his eyes–she was the one who had disrupted his plans!
But he didn’t dodge. Instead, just as the sword was about to reach him, he unexpectedly closed his eyes. In the next moment, Zhouzhou’s movement stopped abruptly, her wrist shifting to the side. The sword missed its target, stabbing into the air.
Landing on the ground, Zhouzhou stomped her chubby foot in frustration, pouting, “You bad guy, always dodging!”
Lu Mingyuan couldn’t help but smile at her remark, returning to his previous gentle demeanor. At that moment, Ye Lingfeng and Xi Mo approached, Ye Lingfeng calmly stating, “Mr. Lu, we need to talk.”
Lu Mingyuan hesitated briefly before nodding and following them. Observing the scene, the others grew increasingly puzzled, unable to figure out what game was being played. First, the seemingly weak and bullied Lu Mingyuan had become the new heir to the Lu family business, then the little girl tried to attack him only to stop suddenly. What kind of baffling plot was this?
Most of the onlookers were ordinary people, many of whom had benefited from Lu Mingyuan’s kindness over the years. Knowing he would inherit the Lu family business, they were quite pleased. He was such a good person after all.
Outside, sensing what the others were about to say, Lu Mingyuan spoke up, “Why don’t we all go to a certain place first?”
Ye Lingfeng glanced at him and indifferently said, “Lead the way.” Whatever Lu Mingyuan had in mind, he didn’t seem likely to sell them out.
Nodding, Lu Mingyuan walked toward a car, and Zhouzhou hurriedly followed with her little legs. But before she could take more than a step, Ye Lingfeng grabbed her by the collar.
Looking down at her disapprovingly, he remarked, “Running around again? Don’t you know he’s a bad guy?”
Zhouzhou puffed out her cheeks, “But he’s the good uncle now!”
Ye Lingfeng scoffed, “So in a blink of eye, and he’s back to being the bad guy? With your short legs, you can’t outrun him switching personalities.” Before she could protest, he bent down, took her hand, and leisurely led her to the car. His large, warm hand enveloped hers, making her feel safe.
Zhouzhou instantly stopped being angry. Oh well, she thought, she’d known her sharp-tongued father for a long time; she could tolerate it for now. And just like that, the two of them reconciled, with Ye Lingfeng’s big hand holding Zhouzhou’s little one–a tall, handsome father and a cute, chubby daughter, a heartwarming sight that melted those who saw them.
As they approached the car, Lu Mingyuan turned back to glance at them, envy flickering in his eyes before he quickly lowered his head and suppressed his emotions. He got into the driver’s seat, while Zhouzhou, Ye Lingfeng, and Xi Mo settled in the back and front seats.
Before long, the car arrived at a hospital. Ye Lingfeng and Xi Mo exchanged a glance, instantly realizing whom they were about to meet.
“This is my wife,” Lu Mingyuan said softly, sitting by the hospital bed, gazing tenderly at the woman lying there, unconscious. When he noticed she was sweating, he went to the bathroom to fetch a towel and gently wiped her brow. His actions were fluid and practiced, clearly something he’d done countless times before.
Zhouzhou walked up, her chubby little hand resting on the woman’s pulse. She turned to look at Ye Lingfeng and Xi Mo, nodding slightly to confirm that the woman had indeed suffered severe injuries.
Suddenly, Zhouzhou’s nose twitched as if she sensed something. Without warning, she reached under the woman’s pillow and, before Lu Mingyuan could react, quickly pulled out a talisman. Staring at the intricate symbols on it, her small lips pressed together in anger as she glared at Lu Mingyuan.
“Of course, it’s him!” Ancestral Master appeared, furious at the one who had caused them to lose their Merits Light.
“Zhouzhou, punish him severely!” he shouted.
But Zhouzhou held him back, “Ancestral Master, this wasn’t the good uncle’s doing.”
“He still knew about it,” the Ancestral Master insisted.
Zhouzhou fell silent. She didn’t fully understand the situation, but if the talisman had been placed under the pillow in his presence, he couldn’t be entirely innocent.
Lu Mingyuan couldn’t see who Zhouzhou was talking to, but he had a good guess. After all, his other self had told him that Zhouzhou was the one who had disrupted the Earth Qi Formation. And seeing her with the Peachwood Sword confirmed she wasn’t just any ordinary child.
“Explain,” Ye Lingfeng said coldly, pulling out a chair to sit down.
Zhouzhou clutched the talisman in her hand, climbed onto Ye Lingfeng’s lap, and whispered something into his ear. Instantly, Ye Lingfeng’s gaze turned icy. Gently setting the little girl down on his lap, he looked up at Lu Mingyuan, his eyes devoid of warmth.
Zhouzhou, her usually round face serious for the first time, stared at Lu Mingyuan sternly as well.
Xi Mo hadn’t heard what Zhouzhou had said, but judging from their reactions, he could guess that the talisman had something to do with the Earth Qi Formation. Glancing at the woman on the bed, he began to piece together its purpose.
Seeing that he couldn’t hide the truth any longer, Lu Mingyuan sighed deeply and began to explain, “I knew this day would come from the moment Master Wei taught me this method. In fact, I’ve been waiting for it.”
His expression grew complicated as he picked up the towel again to wipe his wife’s face, his voice softening as he continued, “Since I was young, my parents never had a good relationship. Their marriage was a business arrangement, one my mother forced using her family’s influence.”

“Later, my father cheated on her, and the shock drove my mother to suicide. I was only five years old then.”
“My father finally got to be with the woman he loved. The day after my mother died, he married her and brought home a younger brother, who was born just a few days after me.”
A bitter, mocking smile tugged at Lu Mingyuan’s lips.
“After that, they had two more children, and I no longer had any place in that family. They hit me, insulted me, and I endured it all. But they crossed the line when they harmed my daughter and Ruoruo.”
Ruoruo was his wife. As he spoke, his eyes turned red, and for the first time, anger and hatred surfaced on his usually calm face.
Zhouzhou’s heart ached for him as she clutched her chest. “So, you used the Earth Qi Formation to gather spiritual energy in order to save this auntie?” she asked.
Lu Mingyuan nodded. “When I was fifteen, Lu Minghan locked me in a dark room for three days and nights. When I came out, another personality of me appeared.”
“He said he had a way to help me. At first, I didn’t know what his plan was.”
The “he” Lu Mingyuan referred to was his other personality, the one opposite to his gentle nature–ruthless and vengeful.
“But later, you allowed it, didn’t you?” Xi Mo said, his tone unyielding.
No matter what the reasons were, no matter how tragic his past, Lu Mingyuan had drained the Earth Qi of an entire city, putting millions of lives at risk. That was undeniable.
