Chapter 816: Homeward Bound
The sound of two gunshots rang out simultaneously. Zhouzhou looked down at the smoke on her body, momentarily stunned. The next moment, she cried.
Ye Lingfeng jumped out from a bush, a puff of smoke rising from above his head as well. He watched Zhouzhou cry and, for the first time, didn’t comfort her. Instead, he crossed his arms and sneered, “What are you crying about? You’ll get to see your dad soon; you should be happy!”
Humph, why would she mention Qin Lie and intentionally provoked him? If he couldn’t be happy, then neither should they!
Ye Lingfeng raised his chin, clearly displeased. Hearing his words, Zhouzhou pouted, sniffling with her little paws wet from tears. “Wuwu, bad daddy; I don’t want to talk to you anymore.”
“You’re the bad one!” Ye Lingfeng shot back without hesitation. “You said it yourself: this is a competition, and everything must be as real as possible. You lost and are crying; how is that fair? Admit it; you just can’t bear to lose!”
As Zhouzhou heard this, her cries slowly subsided. Her face turned red, not from anger but from embarrassment. She hadn’t expected such a swift blow to her pride. She sniffled, fighting back tears, and muttered, “I can!”
She wasn’t someone who couldn’t take a loss!
Determined, she wiped her tears, tilted her little face up, and attempted a smile, but it failed. Little chubby girl clutched her heart and let more tears fall. Her reward was gone! Wuwu, how could her life be so tough?
At that moment, Xi Mo approached, already dressed in fresh clothes. He glanced at Ye Lingfeng, frowning slightly, and softly admonished, “Why bully Zhouzhou? She’s still just a child.”
Ye Lingfeng huffed. “She started it! Didn’t you hear her? She’s the one always picking on me!”
“Don’t even try to twist this!” Xi Mo shot him a glare. Then he looked down at Zhouzhou. At first, he had been somewhat pleased that the little chubby girl might miss out on her reward, but now seeing her cry, his heart softened. “It’s okay, Zhouzhou, don’t cry. You and your dad have an extra task. The only requirement was for you to win against those eight people. As long as you beat them, you’ll still get your prize.”
Upon hearing this, Zhouzhou immediately lifted her little head, her previously tear-filled eyes now sparkling with excitement. “Really?”
“Really,” Xi Mo affirmed, glancing at Commander to signal him to speak.
Commander, having enjoyed the show, finally cooperated, nodding. “That’s right, the reward will still be yours.”
Zhouzhou’s face broke into a grin, even a little booger bubbling up from her nose as she laughed, looking adorably silly. Ye Lingfeng couldn’t help but laugh too.
However, Zhouzhou quickly noticed him and promptly stopped smiling, giving him a side-eye, offended. Upon seeing this, Ye Lingfeng huffed in response.
After huffing, both father and daughter turned their heads away in perfect sync, showing an uncanny level of mutual understanding.
Xi Mo: “…”
In the next year, they should both return to kindergarten. That place was more suited for them.
Xi Mo wasn’t lying to Zhouzhou; the rules were indeed like that.
Soon, the general took out the gifts.
One was a trophy made of pure gold, and the other was the small jade mountain he had shown her earlier.
As soon as Zhouzhou saw them, her eyes immediately fixated on the items.
She cheered and ran forward, exclaiming “Wow!” as she grabbed one in each hand, her smile so wide that her teeth showed. Her little face was now rubbing against the gold trophy, and then against the jade mountain, bouncing with joy.
She had struck it rich!
Seeing her so happy, the others couldn’t help but laugh.
Li Yuan pinched the fortune hair on her head, a smile in his eyes, filled with pride.
“My disciple is the best!”
Wei Fangyi chimed in, a hint of surprise in his tone, but his gaze was filled with admiration. “Not bad, little girl.”
He hadn’t expected her to wipe out the team he had trained. Feeling generous, he pulled a gold bar from his pocket and handed it to her. “Here’s your lucky money in advance; I hope you get even better.”

Zhouzhou’s eyes widened at the sight of the gold bar. She shoved the trophy into her bag, quickly reaching out to grab the gold bar, then turned to Li Huan, expectantly holding out her chubby little paw.
“Master,” she pleaded, her eyes sparkling with hope.
Li Huan smiled, teasingly placing his hand atop her little paw. “Oh, haven’t you realize that your reward is half my effort? How about you share half of that with me?”
Upon hearing this, Zhouzhou’s expression instantly fell. She pulled back, clutching the gold bar tightly and retreating a few steps, keeping her distance.
Seeing her greedy little face made everyone want to laugh and shake their heads at the same time. Li Huan was itching to drag her closer and give her a good scolding.
At that moment, Ye Lingfeng broke into laughter. “Did you see that? This little chubby girl only cares about money, not people.”
Zhouzhou pouted in response, letting out a huff. She didn’t argue; after all, she was a money-lover.
But she wasn’t chubby!
Her grandmother had said so; it was just her being cute!
Suddenly, she remembered her grandma, which made her heart ache with longing. She tilted her little head and asked, “When can I go home?”
She missed her dad and her grandparents.
Noticing her longing expression, Xi Mo replied, “You can go home today.”
The competition was over, and so was the training.
Zhouzhou’s joy was palpable. “Then I’ll go prepare gifts for Daddy and the others!”
With that, she dashed off with her short legs.
Ye Lingfeng stood there, feeling envious and a little envious.
Xi Mo chuckled, teasingly resting his chin in his hand, as if musing, “What’s up? Are you jealous or something?”
Ye Lingfeng shot him a glance. “Shouldn’t someone be more jealous? I may share first place with Qin Lie, but at least I’m not perpetually second like some people.”
Xi Mo’s expression darkened at that comment.
Ye Lingfeng let out a long, satisfied sigh. If he couldn’t be happy, then neither could Xi Mo.
Seeing their antics, Commander shook his head in exasperation. “Why provoke him? You know he’s a total softie when it comes to his daughter. You stole his spotlight; he’s already unhappy.”
At this point, it was pure torture to poke at him further. The two of them, when faced with Zhouzhou, couldn’t seem to get past their three-year-old mindset.
They should just enroll in kindergarten together!
Fed up with the two childish men, Commander walked away.
Before long, the plane to take them home arrived. Zhouzhou emerged from the room, hauling several bags, her waist adorned with the local specialties they had bought in Jiang City.
Seeing this scene, Ye Lingfeng’s expression darkened immediately. She was clearly biased!
She only remembered Qin Lie, wanting to take everything home for him. But what about him? When had she ever brought him anything?
