Chapter 818: No One to Comfort Him
Grandma Qin noticed something was off between the father and daughter and asked, “What happened? Did you two have a fight?”
Upon hearing this, Zhouzhou and Ye Lingfeng exchanged a glance, both huffing and turning their heads away, showing each other the backs of their heads. Their actions were already an answer.
Grandma Qin was even more confused. Just now, Ye Lingfeng didn’t hug Zhouzhou, nor did he help with the luggage, leaving Zhouzhou to carry those huge bags on her own. It seemed this argument wasn’t minor.
“Daddy hit me!” Zhouzhou was the first to complain. She clung to Grandpa Qin’s neck, looking upset, and buried her face against him, clearly sad.
At her words, the expressions of the Qin family members shifted, and they all turned to Ye Lingfeng with disapproving looks.
Ye Lingfeng glanced at Zhouzhou and said, “You hit me too.” This little chubby girl was good at making complaints, only mentioning what he did without saying what she had done.
Wait, did they actually hit each other?
Qin Bei’s mouth fell open in shock, and he curiously asked, “Who won?”
“Of course, me!” Zhouzhou proudly lifted her chin and showed off her large gold trophy. “I won!”
The trophy didn’t have any text on it, as it had been specially made just to reward Zhouzhou.
“Even though Sharp Tongue Daddy and I both got eliminated in the end, the prize still went to me,” Zhouzhou declared, hands on her hips, feeling very proud of herself.
“Eliminated?” Qin Bei scratched his head, puzzled. “Zhouzhou, weren’t you and Uncle Ye just traveling?”
This was what Qin Lie had told the family.
But as soon as he finished speaking, Qin Xi covered his mouth.
He studied Zhouzhou and Ye Lingfeng, then seriously said, “It’s obvious they weren’t on a trip but went somewhere they can’t talk about.”
He was always good at observation and had noticed something was off. If it was just a vacation, why did they always go together, just the two of them? The key was that Uncle Ye didn’t even get jealous, so it had to be important business.
But if they kept saying it was a trip, it must be something they weren’t allowed to discuss.
He’d long suspected that Uncle Ye wasn’t an ordinary person, and now, it seemed his guess was right.
Hearing this, the Qin family was a bit surprised. They had found it odd before but hadn’t thought much of it. After all, Ye Lingfeng was very busy with work, so it seemed normal for him to take Zhouzhou on vacation when he had free time. But based on what Qin Xi said, it wasn’t so simple.
Zhouzhou covered her mouth in astonishment, “Third Brother, how did you know?”
Well, there you go, it was admitted.
Grandpa Qin raised his hand to cover her mouth and, with a commanding presence, glanced around, saying in a low voice, “Let’s go home first.”
Even if they were going to talk, this wasn’t the place.
Qin Xu glanced at Qin Xi, signaling him to speak less. Qin Xi didn’t mind. After giving his deduction, he clammed up again.
Once they got home, even though everyone was curious, Grandpa Qin’s stern gaze kept them from asking anything. They all quietly dispersed.
Grandpa Qin looked at Zhouzhou and reminded her, “If anyone asks about this in the future, don’t answer.”
Zhouzhou nodded obediently and then, with her face upturned and her hand covering her mouth, whispered in his ear, “Grandpa, do you already know everything?”
Grandpa Qin patted her little head and smiled without saying anything. After all, he had lived a long life and met many people. He could guess a bit of the situation. But this little dummy was too easy to trick–this wasn’t a good thing.
Grandma Qin, curious but restrained, didn’t press the issue. Seeing Ye Lingfeng sitting alone on the couch, she poured him a glass of water and asked, “Little Ye, are you hungry? What would you like to eat? I’ll have someone make it for you.”
Ye Lingfeng didn’t hold back, listing off a bunch of dishes, making it clear he felt at home. Grandma Qin was delighted by his comfort and immediately had the housemaids start cooking, while she herself went to the kitchen to prepare a fruit platter.

Zhouzhou quickly jumped off Grandpa Qin’s lap. “Grandma, I’ll help you!” she said, trailing after Grandma Qin into the kitchen.
Grandma Qin handed her an apple to peel. But when she looked down after finishing her own tasks, all that was left was the apple core. The little chubby girl had eaten everything, including the apple peel she was supposed to discard, munching away happily.
Grandma Qin smacked her forehead. What was she thinking, giving food to Zhouzhou and expecting her to help? It was like throwing a meat bun to a dog–it was gone for good! If the apple core were edible, the little chubby girl wouldn’t have left even that.
Sensing her gaze, Zhouzhou looked up curiously, quickly realizing what had happened. She hid her hands behind her back and flashed an innocent smile.
Grandma Qin couldn’t help laughing and led the little chubby girl to the living room, telling everyone what had happened. Qin Bei had just come downstairs and, hearing the story, laughed so hard he nearly fell from the stairs, sitting on the steps until he finished laughing.
The commotion brought everyone else out, and when they heard the whole story, they paused before bursting into laughter. The room was filled with the sound of their amusement.
Even Qin Lie and Ye Lingfeng couldn’t suppress their smiles.
Realizing they were all laughing at her, Zhouzhou’s face turned bright red. She shyly scratched the floor with her little toes and then covered her face, throwing herself into Qin Lie’s arms.
After a moment, she used his arm to cover herself, thinking if she couldn’t see them, they couldn’t see her either.
Qin Lie’s lips slowly curved into a smile as he hugged his silly daughter and glanced at the others.
Enough was enough.
Grandpa Qin’s authoritative gaze swept the room, and the laughter quickly faded.
Grandma Qin tried to stifle her giggles. Seeing her embarrassed little granddaughter, who looked like she wanted to bury herself in a hole, she cleared her throat and said, “Alright, alright, Zhouzhou must be starving. Let’s eat.”
At the mention of food, Zhouzhou’s little ears perked up. She cautiously peeked out from Qin Lie’s embrace and, seeing no one was laughing anymore, let out a breath of relief. A bright smile spread across her face as she jumped up, ready to eat.
If she didn’t mind, then nothing had ever happened.
Everyone else held back their laughter, careful not to upset the little chubby girl. She might be small, but she had a big temper.
Just look at her and Ye Lingfeng. She could definitely hold a grudge.
The housemaids quickly finished preparing the meal. Zhouzhou was truly hungry, devouring everything from her little gold bucket. With these two, the family never worried about leftovers.
Zhouzhou almost licked the plates clean before finally finishing. Ye Lingfeng also put down his bowl and, after saying goodbye to Grandma Qin, turned to head back to the Ye family home.
As Zhouzhou watched him leave, she puffed up her cheeks in frustration.
Seeing her like this, Qin Lie sighed, patted her head, and said, “Zhouzhou, when you’re upset, we all comfort you, but the person who used to comfort him has already left.”
