Chapter 819: Back Online
Her dad’s words made Zhouzhou’s nose tingle, and her eyes began to redden.
Grandma Qin chimed in, “Exactly, there’s no lasting grudge between father and daughter. You yourself said it was just a competition, right? And if you don’t take it seriously, then what’s the point of competing? Winning wouldn’t even feel satisfying.”
“Besides, didn’t you eliminate him? You two are even now,” Grandpa Qin added, giving her chubby little arm a gentle squeeze. “Don’t let a small hurt turn into a big one. It’s the New Year. If you’re unhappy now, the whole year will go poorly.”
As soon as she heard that, Zhouzhou panicked. She couldn’t sit still and immediately jumped off her chair, sprinting out the door on her short little legs.
“I’ll go apologize to Sharp Tongue Daddy right now!”
Dad was right. Mom was gone, and if she didn’t comfort Sharp Tongue Daddy, he’d be all alone. How pitiful would that be?
With that thought, she ran even faster, disappearing in an instant.
Next door, Ye Lingfeng was working on his year-end report when he suddenly heard the sound of footsteps. He turned to see what was happening.
The next moment, a little ball of chubbiness slammed into his leg.
Zhouzhou hugged his leg and burst into tears, “Daddy, I was wrong! I’ll never get mad at you again, and I’ll always comfort you! Wuwuwu, you’re so pitiful.”
The utterly bewildered Ye Lingfeng: “?”
He stared at the little one clinging to his leg, puzzled by her words. Raising an eyebrow, he pretended to push her away coldly.
“Go away. You don’t need to comfort me. Go comfort your ‘good’ daddy.”
“No!” Zhouzhou immediately pounced again, wrapping her chubby legs tightly around his leg, determined not to let go.
She kept her head down and didn’t notice the slight smile creeping onto Ye Lingfeng’s lips.
On the computer screen, Commander watched the scene unfold and couldn’t help but roll his eyes. His lips twitched in disdain, thinking, What a guy, tricking a kid like this.
It was true. Ye Lingfeng wasn’t really mad. At most, he felt a little jealous, but he wouldn’t give his daughter the silent treatment over it. Silent treatments only hurt relationships, and he wasn’t that foolish.
But now that his little girl was trying to win him over, he wasn’t about to waste the opportunity to play up the drama.
With that thought, he closed the laptop screen to stop Commander from watching any further, fully immersing himself in the act.
He lifted his hand, making a show of trying to push Zhouzhou away again, and said coldly, “Since your heart only has Qin Lie in it, you don’t need to care about me anymore.”
“That’s not true!” Zhouzhou clung to him tighter, tilting her head up to look at him, her round face full of sincerity. “Daddy is just as important! You both are! You’re both my dads, and I’ll take care of you when you’re old…”
Before she could finish, Ye Lingfeng quickly covered her mouth.
Zhouzhou blinked up at him, then suddenly grinned. After blowing a little snot bubble, she pulled his hand away and asked cheerfully, “Daddy, are you not mad at me anymore?”
Feigning annoyance, Ye Lingfeng wiped his hand on her clothes, letting out a cold chuckle. “Heh, why would I be angry? I’m just an unimportant dad who doesn’t get any love.”
“If it weren’t for me, you and Qin Lie wouldn’t have any obstacles. I’m the third wheel here.”
“No, no!” Zhouzhou shook her head vigorously. “You’re both number one! You’re both equally important to me!”
“Really?” Ye Lingfeng asked.
“Really!” Zhouzhou nodded firmly, her face filled with determination.
Ye Lingfeng sighed dramatically, “Fine. I have no right to compete for your affection. The fact that you’re willing to comfort me should be enough.”
With that, he lifted his head slightly, taking on a melancholic, dramatic pose.

He didn’t dare lower his head, though. If he did, the little one might see the smile in his eyes.
Sure enough, Zhouzhou really believed he was upset, and immediately became even more flustered. She circled around him, wracking her brain for a way to cheer him up.
Suddenly, she thought of something. She quickly dug into her pockets and pulled out a big red envelope.
“Daddy, look! I prepared this New Year’s money for you. I was going to give it to you on New Year’s Day, but I’ll show you now.”
Ye Lingfeng glanced at it and said disinterestedly, “What’s the point? Qin Lie probably has one too. It’s not special to me.”
“This one must be the leftover; you would only give it to me because others don’t want this!”
Zhouzhou hurriedly explained. This was money she’d taken from her personal stash. She only splurged once a year, so she took this very seriously.
“Daddy, just look at it.” Zhouzhou stood on tiptoe, trying to stuff the red envelope into his hand.
As she did, she pulled out something else from her bag. “Look, this is for Daddy. Yours are different!”
Ye Lingfeng glanced at the envelope. It was indeed different.
Qin Lie’s envelope was perfectly flat. His had a bulging lump. He wasn’t sure what was inside.
Suppressing the urge to smile, Ye Lingfeng put on a reluctant expression and said, “Fine, I’ll look at it.”
This felt more like it.
Zhouzhou breathed a sigh of relief and watched him with eager eyes.
Ye Lingfeng opened the red envelope.
Inside, he found a small, hand-made trophy. The edges were uneven, and there were even some tiny fingerprints on it–clearly something the little chubby girl had broken off herself.
He hadn’t expected this.
Shaking it lightly, he asked, “Why are you giving me this?”
Zhouzhou giggled and grabbed his hand. “Because Daddy helped me a lot! If it weren’t for you teaching me, I wouldn’t have won. So, the trophy belongs to you, too!”
Ye Lingfeng finally felt like laughing, but he held it in.
He glanced at her other hand and said, “Let me see that one.”
He wanted to see how much New Year’s money she had prepared for Qin Lie.
Zhouzhou sighed, exasperated. Sharp Tongue Daddy is so childish.
“Here.” Zhouzhou handed over the other red envelope.
Ye Lingfeng checked it. Sure enough, both envelopes held the same amount.
He even counted the bills one by one, which made the little chubby girl nearly jump in frustration. She wanted to get mad at him again, but remembered it was New Year’s and held back.
She’d deal with him after the holiday!
So petty–way too petty!
Not even trusting her. How over-the-top!
Once Ye Lingfeng finished counting and confirmed both were identical, he nodded in satisfaction, a smile finally breaking through.
Seeing his expression, Zhouzhou could only pout and ask, “Are you happy now?”
“Yes, I’m satisfied,” Ye Lingfeng replied, ruffling her hair. “You didn’t play favorites.”
Of course not.
She had already said they were tied for first.
With the groundwork laid, Ye Lingfeng stopped acting and played along. He finally couldn’t resist any longer and scooped up his chubby daughter, planting a big kiss on her cheek.
He had wanted to do that for a while.
Zhouzhou didn’t dodge either. She mimicked him and planted a loud kiss on his cheek in return.
Outside the door, Qin Lie heard the laughter inside and finally let out a breath.
Tsk, this role of being a father… if you didn’t know better, you’d think both of them were his kids.
