Chapter 822: Uh-oh, Zhouzhou Got Caught Cheating!
As soon as Qin Lie arrived, he overheard Ye Lingfeng tarnishing his reputation. Qin Lie frowned, giving Ye Lingfeng an annoyed look.
Grandma Qin also happened to show up and rolled her eyes, saying, “Oh, give me a break. Forget about bringing home some lady; if he brings home a man at this point, I’d be happy.”
With a face full of disdain, she added, “Who’s even interested in a blockhead like him?”
“I am!” Zhouzhou immediately raised her little chubby hand and declared.
Qin Lie’s expression softened instantly. He walked over to hug his chubby little daughter and glanced at Ye Lingfeng. “Daddy has Zhouzhou, and that’s enough.”
Grandma Qin was indifferent. There was no need to force such matters; it was better to leave it to fate. If someone came along, they could deal with it then. After all, she only ever pushed Qin Lie to get married because she wanted a granddaughter, and now that Zhouzhou was here, there was no need to rush anything anymore.
The family quickly fell back into laughter and good spirits.
Ye Lingfeng pouted. His attempt to throw shade had failed, leaving him disgruntled.
Zhouzhou happily clung to Qin Lie’s neck. After thinking for a moment, she sensibly said, “Daddy, if you do meet a lady you like, I wouldn’t mind.”
However…
She took another look at her father’s face. The area on his forehead linked to marriage luck was completely dark, with no sign of a love star shining at all. It seemed he was destined to be single for life.
Qin Lie didn’t respond to that comment. He felt the same; the chances of that happening were slim to none.
He seemed to be naturally indifferent to romance. Whether during his school days or at work, he received many love letters, but none of them piqued his interest. The idea of spending time with someone — going out for meals, watching movies — seemed like a waste. He’d much rather spend time with his little girl; that was far better.
Right now, having his daughter made him feel like he had everything he needed.
Reading his thoughts, Ye Lingfeng could only think, “That’s his daughter! Not yours!”
The fact that Zhouzhou had been partially “stolen” by Qin Lie just because he came a little late still upset him.
As this thought crossed his mind, he cast a resentful look at Qin Lie.
But Qin Lie didn’t mind. He hugged Zhouzhou and continued chatting with her. Ye Lingfeng, aside from glaring at him, couldn’t do much else. Qin Lie decided to let it go.
The two men spent the day helping Zhouzhou with her little stall. Zhouzhou managed to earn 120 yuan, though after spending 580 yuan on lunch, they ended the day with a net loss of 460 yuan.
It was just as Qin Dafu had predicted.
Zhouzhou, however, didn’t realize she had lost money. She cheerfully divided the 120 yuan into four portions and handed it to Qin Lie, Ye Lingfeng, and Grandma and Grandpa Qin, saying excitedly, “Grandma, Grandpa, Daddy, here’s some money for your retirement! Go ahead and spend it!”
Grandma Qin tried to hold back her laughter but still accepted it, touched. “Thank you, Zhouzhou! With you supporting me, I’ll never have to worry about growing old.”
Zhouzhou nodded. “No need to worry at all! With me here, you’ll be living the high life, eating and drinking well!”
With her 30 yuan, really?
Grandma Qin struggled to suppress her amusement, barely managing to keep a straight face. Oh well, she thought, it’s the thought that counts with children.
Qin Lie and Ye Lingfeng seemed to share the same sentiment, gladly accepting their “retirement funds.”
Zhouzhou was delighted, feeling accomplished as she counted on her fingers, thinking about what to sell the next day.
Grandma Qin patted her little head and said, “The day after tomorrow is New Year’s Eve. Tomorrow’s the last day, so let’s not focus on making money. Let’s go out and have fun instead.”
“You’ve been back for a while now, but you haven’t spent much time with Grandma.”
Hearing this, Zhouzhou couldn’t refuse. She immediately nodded, “Okay, okay.”

“Grandma, what would you like to do?”
Grandma Qin thought for a moment. Being older, she couldn’t handle anything too intense. “How about we go to the zoo?”
“Sure!” Zhouzhou’s face lit up as she remembered something. “Grandma, let’s go to the zoo my Sixth Senior Brother owns. I brought Goldbar there too!”
She had been busy training earlier and didn’t want to scare anyone, so she handed Goldbar over to her Senior Brother. Even Grandma and Grandpa Qin hadn’t seen him yet.
“Goldbar?” Grandma Qin asked curiously.
Zhouzhou explained, “It’s a really beautiful snake, all shiny gold! It’s so pretty, just like a gold bar!”
Talking about Goldbar made Zhouzhou excited. She was so proud of her naming skills!
“A snake?!” Grandma Qin gasped, looking at Ye Lingfeng in shock. When she saw him nod, her heart started pounding.
She nervously asked, “Are you okay?”
With that, she began inspecting Zhouzhou carefully, even parting her “Fortune Hair” to check her over thoroughly.
Zhouzhou shook her head. “I’m fine, Grandma! Don’t worry.”
Only then did Grandma Qin relax, though she was still a little worried. Her little granddaughter’s pets were getting scarier by the day.
First, Wangcai and Laifu were bad enough, and now she was raising a snake? That was too much!
Seeing her alarm, Zhouzhou quickly reassured her, “Really, Grandma, there’s nothing to worry about. Goldbar looks so festive. You’ll see when you meet him!”
Grandma Qin didn’t quite understand what Zhouzhou meant by “festive,” but when she finally saw Goldbar, she understood completely.
Standing in front of the enormous creature, she gasped.
A Golden Python!
It was actually a Golden Python!
She had thought it was just a little snake, never imagining Zhouzhou had brought home a python!
Her hands trembled as she gripped Zhouzhou’s tightly.
Seeing Grandma Qin’s pale face, Wei Feng hurriedly reassured her, “Don’t worry. Golden Pythons may look scary, but they’re very docile and non-venomous. In Southeast Asia, many people keep them as pets.”
Grandma Qin forced a smile, but it looked more like a grimace.
Most people have a natural fear of snakes, especially such a massive one. Poisonous or not, it wasn’t easy to feel at ease around it.
Sensing her fear, Zhouzhou quickly signaled Goldbar. “Goldbar, sit down! Don’t scare Grandma!”
Obediently, Goldbar coiled itself into a neat pile, shrinking down to Zhouzhou’s height.
Zhouzhou beamed. “Grandma, doesn’t Goldbar look just like a pile of gold? Isn’t it festive?”
That was precisely why she had chosen him in the first place!
Grandma Qin: “…”
She looked at her chubby granddaughter, speechless, clutching her chest as her heart pounded.
A few more scares like this, and she’d be out for the count. If they had a gathering, even she’d be the festive one.
Noticing Grandma Qin’s silence, Zhouzhou sighed internally. It seemed Grandma wasn’t fond of Goldbar after all.
Thinking quickly, Zhouzhou dragged her to see Xinbao.
Soft and fluffy, Xinbao immediately lifted Grandma Qin’s spirits.
Now this was more like it! This was her beloved pet!
As they wandered through the zoo, Zhouzhou suddenly spotted Wangcai. She froze. “What’s Wangcai doing here?”
That explained why she hadn’t seen him at home recently. He had been at the zoo all along!
Wei Feng explained, “While you were away, I visited your grandparents. When I left, I brought the pets here for a visit. They seem to enjoy it here, so they’ve been coming over often.”
That made sense.
Then Zhouzhou’s expression changed slightly. Her eyes widened in realization, and she hurriedly asked, “Wait, if Wangcai’s here, does that mean Jinbao’s here too?”
“Yes,” Wei Feng replied, nodding without understanding why she was so flustered.
Zhouzhou’s face turned pale. Panicked, she clutched her “Fortune Hair” and anxiously scanned the surroundings.
This was bad–really bad!
