Chapter 823: You Already Knew She Was a Heartbreaker
Jinbao was strutting around the zoo like a king surveying his domain. In its mind, it had already taken on the role of zoo director. After all, cats always consider themselves at the top of the food chain.
As it passed a certain spot, its nose twitched. Hmm, why did it smell like Zhouzhou? Jinbao stopped in front of Goldbar, pacing around while sizing it up. Then, with a “meow,” it demanded answers: Why would Zhouzhou come to visit this big dumb thing?
Sensing that something was off, Jinbao immediately asked the nearby animals for details. The more it heard, the more furious it became. This dumb snake was also one of Zhouzhou’s pets!
Unbelievable! Jinbao had waited at home for thirty days, and here was Zhouzhou gallivanting about and even bringing back another pet. Worse still, she had stashed it away outside the house! Zhouzhou, for all her small size, had picked up all the bad habits. Not only had she brought home a “mistress,” but she was keeping an “extramarital lover” outside!
Fuming, Jinbao went ballistic, cursing at Goldbar with a stream of angry “meow”s. Goldbar, completely baffled, stood its ground, hissing and staring back with its cold, reptilian eyes.
Jinbao, enraged by this disrespect from what was essentially an outsider, puffed itself up even more. How dare this new fling act all high and mighty in front of it? With paws akimbo, Jinbao continued to hurl insults.
Though Goldbar couldn’t understand the exact words, its instincts told it that whatever Jinbao was saying was far from friendly. After a long rant, Jinbao finally tired itself out and huffed off to find Zhouzhou. After all, this was all her fault!
Meanwhile, Zhouzhou could feel trouble brewing. She quickly reached into her bag and pulled out a helmet she had from a previous competition. Though Ye Lingfeng had once hit it so hard it nearly smoked, it was still serviceable–at least enough to protect her cherished Fortune Hair.
With the helmet securely fastened, Zhouzhou finally exhaled in relief. As long as her Fortune Hair was safe, everything would be fine, even if Jinbao came looking for a fight.
Noticing her sneaky, nervous behavior, Ye Lingfeng chuckled. He reached out to touch her Fortune Hair but ended up patting her helmet instead. “What are you up to?” he asked with amusement.
“Shh!” Zhouzhou raised her chubby little hand to her lips and nervously looked around. In a hushed voice, she whispered, “Dad, keep it down. Jinbao might hear us.”
Just as she finished, a cold chill crept up behind her. Turning her head slowly, she saw a black cat crouching in the shadows, its eyes glowing green and filled with fury.
Jinbao had reached its limit. With an enraged “meow,” it launched itself at Zhouzhou.
Playgirl! She’d cheated and still had the audacity to try and hide it!
Zhouzhou dodged quickly, laughing nervously. “Luckily, I came prepared!” she said, feeling quite proud of herself.
Jinbao, realizing it couldn’t get a grip on any of her precious hair, grew even more frustrated. It scratched wildly, eventually breaking the strap on Zhouzhou’s helmet.
Uh-oh. Zhouzhou felt the cold air on her scalp and her grin instantly vanished. She quickly ran off, cradling her head. “Dad, help!” she shouted, diving into Ye Lingfeng’s coat and wrapping herself up tightly.
Jinbao was relentless, waving its paw at Ye Lingfeng as if to say, “Step aside, big man! Today, I’m going to teach this playgirl a lesson!”
Ye Lingfeng picked Jinbao up and petted it gently. “Alright, Zhouzhou knows she was wrong.”
Really? Jinbao glared at Zhouzhou, who was still cowering inside the coat. This only made Jinbao angrier. So, she had the guts to mess around, but now she couldn’t even face the consequences?
Sensing Jinbao’s true anger, Zhouzhou quickly dashed to Qin Lie’s side. “Dad, help!” she pleaded again.
Qin Lie patted her head and looked calmly at Jinbao. “Zhouzhou’s been like this for a long time; it’s not the first time you know her.”
Zhouzhou: “???”
Dad, are you really helping?
Jinbao felt somewhat placated by Qin Lie’s words and started “meowing” animatedly, gesturing toward Zhouzhou.
Though Qin Lie didn’t speak cat, he understood the gist. “I get it,” he said earnestly. “But what can you do? You’ve chosen to stay with her, so you’ll just have to accept it. She won’t change, and the sooner you come to terms with that, the better.”
“At least she’ll always make sure you’re well-fed, no matter how many others she brings into her life. If you make a fuss, you’ll only push her further away.”
Zhouzhou: “…”
Something about this feels… off.
Ye Lingfeng gave Qin Lie a long look, as if he had just confirmed Zhouzhou’s “playgirl” status. At this moment, Zhouzhou seemed like an unfaithful husband, while Qin Lie sounded like the wicked mother-in-law, advising a poor wife to endure it.

Jinbao pondered Qin Lie’s words, glancing back at Zhouzhou before letting out a heavy sigh. It hopped down from Ye Lingfeng’s arms and sat with its back to Zhouzhou, waving a paw dismissively.
Fine. It was old now–past its prime. It could no longer hold onto Zhouzhou’s heart.
Hmph! When it had first joined the family, it was treated like a treasure. Now, it was nothing more than discarded grass. What could it do? It had to accept its fate and this playgirl’s betrayal.
With these thoughts, Jinbao stared melancholically at the sky, looking utterly heartbroken. Even Zhouzhou felt a little guilty.
She hesitated for a moment before picking Jinbao up. Jinbao turned its head away, refusing to look at her.
But Zhouzhou grabbed its face and made it look into her eyes. “Jinbao, I swear Goldbar is the last one.”
Jinbao rolled its eyes dramatically.
Yeah, right! She’d said the same thing when Laifu came into the picture! Now, she didn’t even bother bringing them home–just kept them outside like dirty secrets. Who knew how many more would follow?
Zhouzhou: “…”
Well, she didn’t have much confidence in her own words either.
She coughed awkwardly, avoiding Jinbao’s gaze. Grandma Qin, watching the scene, couldn’t hold back her laughter any longer and burst out laughing. Even Grandpa Qin’s eyes were twinkling with amusement.
These two were quite the pair!
After half a day of coaxing, Zhouzhou ended up shelling out a hefty sum to buy Jinbao ten boxes of fish snacks. Only then did Jinbao begrudgingly forgive her.
Fine. As long as she could keep making money, it would let it slide.
Zhouzhou finally breathed a sigh of relief, wiping the sweat from her forehead. That was tough!
Just as she was relaxing, something in her bag suddenly moved, making Zhouzhou go, “Huh?”
