Chapter 826: The Lucky Money That Came Knocking
As their eyes met, the two fathers brimmed with fierce determination. Meanwhile, little Zhouzhou was blissfully unaware, happily stuffing her cheeks with food, her mouth glistening with grease.
Seeing this, Ye Lingfeng and Qin Lie reached for some napkins and exchanged a glance, silently agreeing to wipe her mouth together–one on the left, one on the right. Zhouzhou was delighted, kicking her short legs and not bothering to serve herself. She simply declared what she wanted, and both sides would oblige, treating her like a little landowner.
Qin Bei watched enviously, wishing he had such treatment too. His arms were short, and he couldn’t get up to serve himself, so he could only eat what was in front of him. He glanced over at Qin Yan and said, “Dad, I want to eat fish.”
“No, you want to eat chicken leg,” Qin Yan replied as he placed a chicken leg in Qin Bei’s bowl.
Fish? This little brat didn’t even know how to pick the bones. Qin Yan intended to prevent the bother before it started.
Qin Bei: “…”
Looking at the chicken leg in his bowl, he felt unhappy and turned to Xiao Lan. “Mom…”
Before he could finish, Xiao Lan had already tossed a serving of vegetables into his bowl and shot him a flat look. “Eat.”
Qin Bei stared at the carrots–his least favorite vegetable–and wanted to cry. Was he even their biological child? He wanted to find a new set of parents, ones that treated him better than his little uncle treated Zhouzhou.
The twins shared a bond, and Qin Nan saw through Qin Bei’s thoughts, bluntly destroying his fantasies. “Don’t even think about it. You’re not Zhouzhou; if you went to a step-dad’s house, you’d be beaten three meals a day.”
Qin Bei: “…”
Wasn’t he allowed to hope for a better life? They weren’t Zhouzhou, after all. Since they were weeds, they should accept their fate, not act like flowers, expecting everyone to cherish them.
It was New Year’s Eve, and no one was in a hurry to eat. They chatted leisurely while the adults sipped on drinks. The children were the only ones focused on their meals.
After dinner, Zhouzhou couldn’t sit still, so she dashed off to play with the other kids. Qin Bei peered out the window, spotting the snow covering the ground, and suddenly perked up. “Zhouzhou, let’s go play in the snow!”
If Zhouzhou went out, Grandma definitely wouldn’t scold him. He had a clever plan brewing in his mind.
Zhouzhou, unaware that her brother was using her as a shield, nodded eagerly and grabbed his hand, leading him outside.
Qin Ren happened to walk by and called them back to help Zhouzhou put on her winter clothes–hat, scarf, and mittens, wrapping her up snugly before saying, “Okay, you can go.”
Qin Bei looked on enviously, asking, “Big brother, what about me?”
Qin Ren glanced at him and, after a moment of thought, pulled out the candies and peanuts from Qin Bei’s pockets, then stepped back a bit. “There, now you can go.”
Qin Bei stared at him, dumbfounded, his eyes glued to the treats in Qin Ren’s hands.
Qin Ren thought of himself as a great older brother and patiently explained, “As long as you freeze and starve, you can come back sooner.”
Qin Bei: “…” Thanks a lot.
Was he even part of this family anymore?
Fuming, he glared at the ceiling, his frustration palpable.
Just then, Qin Nan strolled by, munching on sunflower seeds, and casually remarked, “Hey, little Bei, when are you going to recognize your place?”
After stabbing Qin Bei with his words, he sighed, lamenting his own face.
He never wanted to look like Qin Bei again in the next life!
After dealing Qin Bei a mental blow, Qin Nan left, leaving him even angrier.
What kind of people were they?!
In his exasperation, he accidentally voiced his thoughts.

Zhouzhou leaned in closer, her little mouth open as she punctured her older brother’s heart with her words. “Sixth Brother, if you run away from home and become a beggar, how will you survive? Just fill your stomach with the north wind?”
Qin Bei: “…”
Boohoo! Couldn’t someone show him a bit of humanity?
Seeing that he was about to cry, Qin Ren managed to suppress his laughter. “Weren’t you going to play in the snow?”
Oh right!
Qin Bei immediately forgot his grievances, and together with Zhouzhou, they sprinted outside.
The two little ones played joyously in the snow. Qin Ren watched from the door for a while before heading upstairs.
Suddenly, Zhouzhou’s ears perked up, and she looked alertly in one direction.
Just then, Qin Bei accidentally hit her with a snowball, covering her face with snow.
This was the first time he had managed to hit Zhouzhou all night, and he paused, puzzled. “What’s wrong?”
Zhouzhou’s eyes darted around, “It’s nothing, Sixth Brother! Let’s go play outside, there’s so much snow!”
“Okay, okay!” Qin Bei nodded eagerly.
When he was about to run, Zhouzhou dashed ahead to grab his hand, protectively keeping him behind her.
Qin Bei didn’t think too much of it and squatted down to start making snowballs.
Zhouzhou joined in, her little chubby hands shaping the snow effortlessly.
She huffed a breath on her hands and threw a snowball at Qin Bei.
He yelped and tried to dodge, but the snowball whizzed past his ear and landed in the bushes.
Seeing this, Qin Bei burst into laughter. “You’ve missed! Watch me!” He flung a snowball back at her.
Zhouzhou dodged skillfully, as if she had really just missed hitting him before.
She continued to throw her “missed” snowballs, the sound of their play echoing through the snowy landscape.
After a while, Qin Bei felt his hands freezing and glanced at Zhouzhou’s warm, waterproof mittens with envy. “I don’t want to play anymore; let’s go back.”
“Okay,” Zhouzhou agreed, not saying much since they had already finished their snowball fight.
She dashed back to the living room and ran to Ye Lingfeng, standing on her tiptoes to whisper in his ear.
Ye Lingfeng’s expression turned icy as he listened. “Really?”
Zhouzhou nodded vigorously, “Really, really! They’re outside, Daddy! Don’t forget to ask Uncle Commander to exchange money after you finish cleaning up!”
In this vast world, the biggest priority was making money; she couldn’t forget that.
Ye Lingfeng chuckled softly, “Got it.”
He calmly chatted with the Qin family for a bit before making an excuse to step outside.
When he arrived at the spot Zhouzhou mentioned, he indeed found several black-clad figures sprawled out on the ground, all sporting matching bruises on their foreheads from Zhouzhou’s snowballs.
Initially, they hadn’t taken the snowballs seriously, but by the time they realized what was happening, it was too late.
Underestimating Zhouzhou could be fatal.
Ye Lingfeng approached, pulling the black cloth off their faces, and when he saw their features, a cold smile crept onto his lips.
He knew they wouldn’t behave themselves!
