Chapter 858: The Transfer Student
Zhouzhou didn’t notice the woman’s words; she was focused on the cake on the ground. It looked so tasty.
Just then, Zhouzhou saw Gu Shao walking over. Her eyes lit up, and she immediately let go of Qin Lie’s hand, running towards him, “Second Senior Brother!”
Gu Shao smiled and gently patted her little head. Then, he looked up at the parent who had been speaking. He said, “I made the cake. Is there a problem?”
The parent pointed to the cake on the ground, her face full of disdain. “What is this that you’re feeding my child? Do you have a health certificate? Are you qualified? Is this legit? What if my child gets sick–who’s responsible?”
Her words flew out like a machine gun, and the surrounding parents were left stunned.
Some approached to calm her down: “Please, don’t get too worked up. The school’s food is very healthy. We parents often make surprise inspections of the kitchen, and it’s always super clean.”
“Yes, my child doesn’t like to eat at home but loves the school’s meals.”
“Same with my child.”
The parents all chimed in, defending the school.
However, the parent’s expression only grew darker. She raised her chin and said, “Even if the kitchen is clean, what about the ingredients?”
“My son used to attend a prestigious international school, and all their ingredients were imported. What about yours?”
Upon hearing this, the other parents’ expressions soured. Her tone was obviously looking down on them. What’s the big deal about imported food?
Who was this strange woman, and why hadn’t anyone seen her before?
Noticing the strange looks she was getting, the little boy beside her became anxious, tugging at her sleeve and whispering, “Mom, please stop.”
But his words only made her angrier. “How can I not say something? Food is critical to health. What if you get sick? Medicine is bad for your body–it can make you dumb and stunt your growth…”
She rattled off a long list of complaints, leaving the boy looking paler and paler. He opened his mouth but then hung his head helplessly, no longer speaking.
The surrounding parents shook their heads, feeling exasperated.
Zhouzhou, too, was puzzled, frowning deeply.
At that moment, the principal approached and said, “We source all our ingredients from certified, reputable suppliers. If you’d like, I can show you the documentation or even take you to see for yourself.”
“If you’re still not satisfied, I’m afraid you’ll need to find another school.”
Hearing this, the parent’s face fell, but she said nothing more. They had just transferred, and there wasn’t a better school available if they switched again.
Grumbling, she pulled her son along to the classroom, her nitpicking voice echoing in the background.
Zhouzhou blinked in confusion. She thought their school was great, but listening to this lady, it sounded like everything was terrible.
The parents around them sighed, complaining about how strange this woman was.
Chang Beibei, munching on sunflower seeds, walked over and said, “That kid’s a transfer student. His name is Zhou Fei, and he came from an international private school. The reason for the transfer? His weird mom. She caused so much trouble that he was mocked by his classmates and couldn’t stay.”
“I bet he won’t last long here either. Who could put up with her?”
As soon as she finished speaking, her head was tapped from behind. She yelped, rubbing her head, and looked up in annoyance. “Dad, why did you hit me?”
Principal Chang glanced at her. “Because you talk too much.”
But she hadn’t said anything wrong!
Zhouzhou looked at her in admiration. “Beibei, how do you know so much?”

Puffing up her chest, Chang Beibei shot a defiant look at her dad before sticking out her tongue and dragging Zhouzhou away.
Proudly, she said, “I’m always in the know!”
“I looked at my dad’s computer to check his transfer records, then asked around to confirm the details.”
“Wow,” Zhouzhou’s eyes sparkled. She was so impressed.
Qin Nan, curious, asked, “How did you ask around? Do you know people at that international school?”
“Nope.” Chang Beibei kept munching on her seeds. “I went to their school gate, bought the security guard a drink, and chatted with him. That’s how I found out.”
The kids: “…”
Incredible. She was so dedicated to getting the gossip that she went out of her way to investigate.
No matter how, thanks to her, they now knew quite a bit. In short, this transfer student was in trouble.
After finishing their snacks, the kids were still in awe.
Zhouzhou, thinking of something, comforted Gu Shao, “Second Senior Brother, don’t be sad. Your food is the best! I love your cooking the most.”
Gu Shao wasn’t bothered at all. As long as Zhouzhou liked his food, that was all that mattered. He smiled, patting her head. “Don’t worry, I’m fine.”
“Hungry? Let’s go eat something.”
“Yes, yes!” Zhouzhou nodded enthusiastically.
Looking at the cake on the ground, she couldn’t resist bending down to poke some frosting with her little chubby hand. She put it in her mouth, and her eyes narrowed in delight.
“Second Senior Brother, this cake is so delicious!”
She was about to grab a handful when Gu Shao quickly stopped her. “Don’t eat that. I’ll cut you a fresh slice.”
Zhouzhou looked at the cake on the floor, feeling a bit regretful. “What a waste.”
“It’s okay, we’ll toss it in the slop bucket for the pigs.”
Fair enough.
Zhouzhou quickly snatched one last bit of frosting and smeared it on Gu Shao’s face.
Seeing his shocked expression, she giggled happily.
Qin Bei’s eyes lit up. “I want to play too!”
He rushed over to smear Zhouzhou, but she dodged him. Qin Bei, undeterred, gave chase.
Seeing this, Qin Nan felt tempted and quickly smeared some frosting on Li Yuxin’s forehead.
Just as he was feeling proud, a blob of frosting landed on his face–courtesy of Chang Beibei.
“You just wait!” he shouted.
But Chang Beibei, no fool, ran off laughing.
The kids’ laughter filled the air, catching the attention of other children and parents. They stopped eating their cake and joined in on the fun.
Zhou Fei and his mom passed by just then, and seeing the scene, a flicker of envy crossed his eyes.
Mrs. Zhou snorted. “What a ruckus. No discipline at all. You better not follow their example.”
At her words, Zhou Fei’s expression dimmed.
Mrs. Zhou, noticing his silence, frowned and tugged his arm. “Did you hear me?”
“I heard you,” Zhou Fei mumbled, sounding defeated.
