Chapter 887: A New Dad
His joy was evident.
Zhouzhou bit her lip, gazing at him silently, her eyes glistening and red-rimmed.
Ye Lingfeng clicked his tongue, “Alright, alright, I’ll help you talk to him, make him not angry, and let him know he can have two dads if he wants. How about that?”
“Yeah!” At these words, Zhouzhou finally broke into a smile.
But as she cheered, Ye Lingfeng felt a pang of dissatisfaction. He coldly snorted, jealousy creeping in, “You’re biased, caring about him more than me.”
“That’s not true!” Zhouzhou hugged him, “I know you will definitely wake up because you can’t bear to leave me. I love you, Daddy!”
With that, she planted a kiss on his cheek.
When she was angry, she was infuriating; but when she was sweet, she brought pure joy.
Ye Lingfeng couldn’t stay mad and tightened his embrace around his little chubby girl. Glancing at the time, he said, “Let’s sleep now. I’ll go find him tomorrow morning.”
“Okay!” Zhouzhou nodded vigorously, leaning against him. Within seconds, she had fallen asleep.
She had been so exhausted from confronting Garen, not to mention the ordeal with Qin Lie. It was no wonder she couldn’t keep her eyes open.
Ye Lingfeng watched her with a sigh.
What a mess–now he had to play matchmaker between his daughter and Qin Lie. Where could he find someone as magnanimous as him?
As he poked Zhouzhou’s forehead, he muttered, “You better treat me well in the future!”
After a moment of thought, he considered getting her an ice pack for her swollen eyes, but then decided against it. He wanted Qin Lie to see this!
He had woken up and was going to help Zhouzhou with Qin Lie. That thought brought her a sense of security as she hugged his arm, falling into a deep sleep until dawn.
When morning came, Ye Lingfeng got up to send Zhouzhou to school.
Although his gunshot wounds hadn’t healed, he was used to it; this minor injury was nothing he couldn’t handle.
But just as they arrived at the school gate, Zhouzhou turned back multiple times, reminding him, “Sharp Tongue Daddy, remember to talk to my dad!”
Ye Lingfeng’s face immediately darkened. He felt the emotional damage he had endured was far worse than the gunshot wound!
This ungrateful little chubby girl only had eyes for Qin Lie!
What a bias!
But looking at her swollen eyes, he couldn’t help but soften. Reluctantly, he nodded.
Zhouzhou’s face brightened with joy as she waved her hand energetically, “Thank you, Daddy! I love you the most!”
Ye Lingfeng’s frown relaxed instantly.
Noticing someone was watching him, he blinked, smirking slightly; he had thought he truly had a heart of stone, but it turned out he was just putting on an act.
After Zhouzhou walked away, Ye Lingfeng turned and crossed the street to get into a car.
Inside, he found Qin Lie sitting there, typing away on his computer, looking focused on his work. Ye Lingfeng couldn’t help but scoff.
“Working hard, huh? You came here to work overtime?”
Qin Lie replied casually, “Stuck in traffic.”

At that moment, it was indeed rush hour.
But Ye Lingfeng didn’t buy it.
With a cold laugh, he crossed his arms and leaned back, “Did you know Zhouzhou cried all night yesterday?”
At this, Qin Lie’s hands paused momentarily; his fingers curled slightly. A few seconds later, he resumed typing, pretending nothing was wrong.
Seeing this, Ye Lingfeng grew irritated and snatched the computer away from him. “Why are you pretending? Do you really not care about this girl?”
Only then did Qin Lie finally look at him, his gaze flat and devoid of emotion. “Isn’t this what you’ve always wanted?”
“Exactly!” Ye Lingfeng was both furious and amused. “I would love it if Zhouzhou didn’t acknowledge you. But she insists on it! She cried half the night for you! If I hadn’t woken up, who knows how long she would have cried?”
“Here I am, a patient lying in bed, and she’s crying for you instead of me!”
Just thinking about it made him mad!
Glancing at Qin Lie, he huffed, “Feel free to laugh, no need to hold back.”
Qin Lie didn’t laugh.
At this point, Ye Lingfeng’s expression also started to fade.
“I’m not here to beg you. If you truly don’t want Zhouzhou anymore, I’ll take her away.”
“Zhouzhou likes you, but she’s not someone who clings desperately. She’s already been abandoned by the temple and the Daoist priests, so losing you won’t matter to her.”
He said this deliberately, testing if Qin Lie could really keep up the act!
Indeed, Qin Lie’s expression shifted at those words.
Flashes of memories crossed his mind: Zhouzhou clinging to his clothes when she first arrived from the mountain, scared he might abandon her.
Then, moments from the past few years flooded back, culminating in the image of her sobbing in his arms just yesterday.
He had vowed to keep Zhouzhou happy for life, and anyone who made her cry would pay dearly.
Yet, he himself had become the one who hurt her the most.
A wave of mixed emotions washed over him as he turned to gaze out the window toward the school, his expression complicated.
Seeing his reaction, Ye Lingfeng grew annoyed. “Get to the point: Do you want Zhouzhou or not?”
“Is it really that serious? What’s the big deal? Zhouzhou is going to have tasks; she completed this one exceptionally well. I genuinely don’t understand what you’re getting hung up on.”
“Are you upset because Zhouzhou drugged you to help me get revenge?”
“Believe me, if it were you lying there, Zhouzhou would do the same. But I wouldn’t be like you; I would join her to get revenge on you.”
At this, Qin Lie turned to face him, his tone calm. “I admit I’m not as capable as you.”
Ye Lingfeng raised an eyebrow. “You think that’s the point?”
Qin Lie fell silent.
He understood all too well; he knew Zhouzhou was capable. Yet, he still couldn’t get past that mental block.
He worried that she might genuinely get hurt, and what then?
Ye Lingfeng watched him, his expression growing serious.
Sitting up straighter, he said earnestly, “If you’re going to be angry with Zhouzhou for taking on tasks, then even if she likes you, I will take her away.”
“She’s going to be involved with these things; if you can’t handle it, then it’s better to cut your losses now.”
“You should support your own child; you, as a father, shouldn’t hold her back.”
“Zhouzhou is already exhausted from her tasks; I don’t want her to have to come back and comfort you each time she finishes one.”
With that, he swung the car door open and got out.
Before leaving, he turned back and said, “If you don’t show up to pick her up after school today, I’ll take it as a sign that you don’t want her anymore. I will immediately take her away.”
With that, he strode off.
Qin Lie sat in the car, speechless.
The driver returned a while later, cautiously gauging Qin Lie’s expression, and was taken aback to see his face pale and seemingly drained.
“Drive,” Qin Lie uttered weakly after a few seconds.
At that moment, Zhouzhou had arrived in class.
Looking at her walnut-sized eyes, Huo Ji’an couldn’t help but sigh, walking over to pat her shoulder.
“Chubby Girl, try to think positively. If your dad really doesn’t want you anymore, you can just find another one.”
“Out with the old, in with the new, right? That’s what you always say.”
