Chapter 891: Resignation Interview
Ye Lingfeng almost slipped and dropped the little girl due to her cheesy words.
Impossible, his daughter wasn’t like this!
He glared fiercely at Qin Lie–what exactly did he do to his daughter?
Qin Lie gave him a calm glance, as if to say, You just don’t know Zhouzhou well enough.
The little cheesy girl had always been like this.
Though he might feel disdain, she was still salvageable after a wash.
Pouting, Ye Lingfeng carried Zhouzhou straight to the basement.
Seeing this, a knowing look flashed across Qin Lie’s eyes.
As expected, he was bringing him here.
Since they were already here, Ye Lingfeng wasn’t worried about him running away.
He tapped his finger on a door, and it opened immediately, revealing what was inside.
In front of them lay a man with a bluish hue, his limbs swollen as if inflated.
Hearing the noise, Garen struggled to open his eyes. When he saw that familiar chubby face, his eyes widened instantly.
Zhouzhou jumped down from Ye Lingfeng’s grasp, ran over to Garen, and after inspecting him, asked, “Sharp Tongue Daddy, why is he here?”
“There are some things I need to ask him,” Ye Lingfeng replied, casting a glance at Garen with a hint of amusement, then gently ruffled Zhouzhou’s hair. “Thanks to you, his interrogation went particularly smoothly this time.”
The poisons from the rainforest were far more terrifying than any torture.
And combined with Zhouzhou’s antidote, it made him wish he were dead–neither able to live nor die, only hoping to confess quickly so Ye Lingfeng could end his suffering.
Everything had already been extracted. Ye Lingfeng pulled out a piece of paper and waved it in front of Garen.
“You’re sure you’ve told us everything?”
Rubbing his chin, he mused aloud, “Maybe I should leak the news that you’ve been captured, see who shows up to silence you.”
Upon hearing this, Garen’s eyes nearly popped out of his head. He stared at Ye Lingfeng in disbelief, his face contorting.
How could someone be like this?
Which one of us is the real villain here?
Why does it feel like he’s even worse than me?!
Zhouzhou, picking up on the idea, said, “I think that’s a great plan. Don’t worry.”
She even tried to reassure Garen, “I’ll set up an array around you so they can’t get in. You’ll be safe.”
“Oh, but the array can’t block bullets… What should we do about that?”
The little chubby girl rubbed her chin thoughtfully, while Garen shook with rage.
Is she even human?
Are any of them?

Who here is more inhuman?!
Weren’t the Chinese supposed to treat their captives well? What a lie!
Sensing his thoughts, Zhouzhou flashed an innocent smile. “We are treating you well. If anyone else had captured you, you’d have been chopped into pieces by now. You wouldn’t even be alive.”
How much better off am I now?! I might as well be dead!
Garen rolled his eyes in anger, deeply regretting the things he’d done.
In his next life, he vowed to stay far away from this father-daughter duo–they were too cruel!
The fury overwhelmed him, and with one last eye roll, his breathing weakened significantly.
Finally, it’s over, he thought.
I’m finally free of these demons!
As he started to smile, a small, chubby hand pried his mouth open, and a pill was shoved inside.
Garen immediately sensed danger and tried to spit it out, but the pill dissolved instantly. He barely moved before it went down his throat, clearing his mind.
I’m doomed…
The sky before him seemed to darken.
Zhouzhou, however, let out a sigh of relief. “Phew, we saved you! Don’t get too worked up now, or the toxins will act faster, and then you really will die.”
What luck!
Garen rolled his eyes, and the more he thought about this wicked pair, the angrier he became.
Just thinking about them got his blood boiling.
But before he could feel the rush, his anger vanished.
Stunned, Garen tried again, but the result was the same.
He was baffled.
Could it be that, facing death, he had reached some new level of enlightenment? Had he finally opened his mind?
Could he no longer get mad at such vile people?
Just as he was pondering this, Zhouzhou smugly announced, “I knew you wouldn’t behave, so I stuck an anti-anger charm on you. Now you won’t be able to get angry no matter how hard you try. You’re guaranteed to live through today. Aren’t you happy?”
She waved the charm proudly in front of his face.
So it was her doing!
Garen’s face twisted in fury, but the charm prevented him from expressing it.
Oblivious, Zhouzhou thought she had done something praiseworthy, earnestly seeking approval.
Her innocence made Garen feel even more stifled, like he was choking on his own frustration.
Watching from the side, Ye Lingfeng couldn’t help but smile.
This little chubby girl is truly endearing when she’s being lovable, but infuriating when she’s up to mischief.
She’s sneaky, but completely unaware of it–which is the most frustrating part!
“Alright,” he called Zhouzhou over, pulling her away to avoid pushing Garen to the brink of breaking the charm.
Zhouzhou obediently quieted down, tilting her head and gazing up at Ye Lingfeng with eager eyes, hoping for praise.
Ye Lingfeng pinched her cheek before turning to Qin Lie and saying, “Someone wants to see you.”
Hearing this, Qin Lie looked over, puzzled.
Who could it be?
Without a word, Ye Lingfeng led him to another room, where a figure already appeared on the large screen.
Zhouzhou blurted out, “Uncle Director!”
It was Zhao Xinghua, of course.
Qin Lie’s expression shifted with obvious surprise.
He hadn’t expected Zhao Xinghua to be the one wanting to meet him.
Though he didn’t know him well, it was clear from his position that Zhao Xinghua’s level of secrecy must rival Ye Lingfeng’s.
Yet, here he was, appearing before Qin Lie without any attempt to conceal his face.
He really trusts me this much?
Noticing Qin Lie’s confusion, Zhao Xinghua chuckled.
“You’re Zhouzhou’s father. She always speaks highly of you, so I’m sure you’re trustworthy.”
At this, Qin Lie glanced at Zhouzhou.
She gave him a sweet smile, tinged with a hint of flattery.
Qin Lie didn’t like seeing her with that expression.
His daughter should be wild and free, never needing to please anyone.
Yet here she was, doing so for his sake.
Feeling a pang in his chest, he looked back at Zhao Xinghua, composed himself, and asked, “What can I do for you?”
“Of course,” Zhao Xinghua replied, his tone calm.
Out of the camera’s view lay a pile of wet tissues, used to wipe his tears.
Who could blame him?
He had finally managed to recruit Zhouzhou, only for her father to step in and take her away. How could he just sit back?
If he weren’t so far away and pressed for time, he would’ve flown over in person for a face-to-face talk.
Who would have thought that instead of negotiating a resignation with an employee, he would end up negotiating with her father?
What a tough life!
