Chapter 893: Father and Daughter Reconcile
“Help me–”
Zhouzhou wailed, quickly pulling out her little helmet and putting it on. She zipped behind Qin Lie in a flash, dragging Ye Lingfeng over and tightly wrapping her chubby legs around his feet, trembling in fear.
Ye Lingfeng snorted, crossing his arms, and said, “Let it strike her a few more times. She was the one who offered to take one for Qin Lie too.”
Upon hearing this, Zhouzhou immediately let go of him and clung tightly to Qin Lie instead.
Sharp Tongue Daddy is mean!
She glanced back nervously and saw the lightning bolt was getting close, her face turning pale with fright. She tightly covered her head, closed her eyes, curled up into a ball, and shook like a leaf.
However, second by second passed, and the expected pain never came. Instead, she felt a warm sensation surrounding her.
Zhouzhou cautiously opened one eye, then widened both in surprise.
She saw a golden helmet-like object hovering over her head, blocking the lightning.
Zhouzhou curiously reached out her little chubby hand and poked it gently.
Then, as something dawned on her, her eyes grew even larger in shock. She touched the golden ingot on her head in a panic.
This was the one her mother left her, saying it could block three lightning strikes.
Could it be because of that?
As the thought crossed her mind, Zhouzhou burst into tears.
“Mommy, mommy…”
She cried while calling for her mother.
Taking off the helmet, she collapsed onto the ground, pointing at her arm, and cried, “Strike me, strike me, Heavenly Thunder! Hit me here, but don’t touch mommy’s golden ingot. It’s meant for me.”
It was the only thing her mother left her. It only had three uses, and once they were gone, her mother would be gone forever.
Thinking about this, Zhouzhou cried even harder.
The Ancestral Master immediately understood her meaning and hurriedly comforted her, “Your golden ingot is fine, look for yourself if you don’t believe me.”
As he spoke, he pulled out a mirror.
Zhouzhou hesitantly looked into it, and sure enough, the golden ingot her mother had left her was still shining brightly, completely unharmed. Her sobs came to an abrupt stop.
Thank goodness, the golden ingot was still intact.
But then, she touched the golden helmet on her head, puzzled. “Then what is this?”
“That’s Merit Light!”
She hadn’t seen it earlier with her eyes closed, but the Ancestral Master had seen it clearly. This golden light had descended from the heavens and was meant for Zhouzhou.
Glancing at the footage Zhao Xinghua had been showing on the screen, he figured it must have been a reward for Zhouzhou’s efforts in dealing with Garen and his gang.
It wasn’t just Merit Light, but the Protective Light of the Nation!
Even standing nearby, one could feel the rich fragrance it emitted. The Ancestral Master was practically drooling, and he hugged Zhouzhou’s head tightly. “Quick, let your Ancestral Master hug you.”
Jinbao, the cat, suddenly leapt onto Zhouzhou’s shoulder from somewhere, rubbing its head vigorously against hers, occasionally licking her with its tiny tongue.

Zhouzhou giggled uncontrollably, grabbing Jinbao and holding him in her arms. “Okay, Jinbao, that tickles!”
But Jinbao didn’t stop, bouncing around in her lap, utterly captivated by the golden light on her head–more enticing than catnip.
A little sun!
After following this little scoundrel for so long, Jinbao finally saw some benefits! It no longer cared how many more pets Zhouzhou might raise.
So long as the owner could bring in more golden light, all was well.
Having figured this out, Jinbao became much more magnanimous and carefree.
The Ancestral Master, now looking at Zhouzhou, found his gaze softening with affection.
Turning to the Heavenly Thunder, he said, “Alright, now that the heavenly light has recognized Zhouzhou’s good deeds, you can let this one slide.”
Zhouzhou nodded vigorously in agreement.
Heavenly Thunder hesitated, staring at the golden light on her head for a moment before reluctantly striking elsewhere and leaving in a bad mood.
It was off to find someone else to zap.
As soon as it left, Zhouzhou sighed in relief, rubbing her head and beaming widely.
Does this mean that as long as she keeps doing good deeds, Heavenly Thunder won’t be able to hit her anymore?
Noticing her thoughts, the Ancestral Master reminded her, “Don’t get too excited. The golden light was much richer when it first descended. After blocking this one strike, it’s already used up half. Otherwise, you could’ve gotten even more.”
But…
He rubbed his chin, puzzled. “Normally, all merit you earn before you turn eighteen is supposed to go to Heavenly Thunder. So, why did it go straight to you this time?”
Even he didn’t get a share.
He couldn’t figure it out, and Zhouzhou had no idea either. Looking up at him with her innocent face, she urged, “Ancestral Master, go figure it out!”
If it all belongs to her, does that mean she’ll soon change her fate of always being short on money?
That thought filled her with excitement.
The Ancestral Master agreed this was important and immediately flew off, leaving only a parting word: “I’ll go ask and come back.”
“Okay!” Zhouzhou nodded earnestly, then turned her hopeful gaze to Qin Lie.
She clumsily stood up, tugging at his sleeve, and cautiously asked, “Daddy, Grandpa Heaven praised me, will you forgive me now?”
Looking at Zhouzhou, Qin Lie finally relented.
He sighed, gently brushing her tear-stained, swollen eyes.
Remembering how she had cried so hard because of him, a pang of guilt hit his heart.
“I’m sorry, Daddy was too harsh this time.”
Zhouzhou immediately shook her head, throwing her arms around him.
Her eyes teared up again, but she couldn’t help but smile.
“It’s not Daddy’s fault, it was mine.”
“Daddy, I’m so happy you’re not mad at me anymore.”
Qin Lie, too, felt relieved, bending down to scoop her into his arms.
Looking at her chubby face, he couldn’t resist planting a kiss on her cheek.
“You’ve lost weight,” he said, genuinely concerned this time.
Zhouzhou pouted, “Daddy, I haven’t been eating much lately.”
Just as she finished speaking, her stomach growled loudly.
Hearing this, Qin Lie’s heart ached even more. “Come on, let’s go home for a meal.”
“Yeah!” Zhouzhou nodded vigorously, her little legs swinging happily.
The heartwarming scene of their reconciliation was perfect.
But then, an exasperated voice broke the moment.
Ye Lingfeng, arms crossed, looked at them like they were two ungrateful traitors, grumbling, “You two sure are good at using people and tossing them aside.”
So much for peace–he was the one taking all the hits for them!
