Chapter 95: Soothing Dad
“Dad?” Seeing his expression change, Zhouzhou leaned over to take a look. She saw a photo on his phone. In the picture, there was a person wearing old clothes that had turned white from age. They looked tired, with a shriveled gaze. Behind them was a tall iron gate. The person’s body was hunched, making them instantly appear ten years older.
Zhouzhou was curious, “Dad, who is this?”
Qin Lie’s expression turned cold, “The person who cut the wires that held Qin Yan and caused him to fall down the mountain.”
Ah?
Zhouzhou remembered this incident. Third Elder Aunt had told her about it, saying that when Third Elder Uncle was filming, the ropes holding him broke, and he fell down the mountain. It was Dad who carried him back up. So, it turns out someone deliberately cut the ropes?
Zhouzhou furrowed her brows, filled with righteous indignation. “What a villain!”
Seeing her like this, Qin Lie couldn’t help but let out a light laugh. His expression also showed a tinge of sorrow. He touched her smooth head and said with complex emotions, “You know he’s not a good person, but some people don’t.”
As he spoke, he let out a cold sneer. It was obvious who the “some people” referred to.
Zhouzhou didn’t understand. She looked up at him with her fair little face.
Seeing her expression, Qin Lie simply lifted her from the backseat, placing her on his lap. He held her and smelled the fragrance of milk on her, which helped calm his mood a little.
Leaning back against the seat, he slowly said, “He was also Qin Yan’s manager.”
Zhouzhou understood this too!
She raised her small hand and eagerly answered, “Just like Second Elder Brother! Second Elder Brother is also my manager!” Second Elder Brother had said that he would help sell her amulets and earn a commission from anyone who wanted to buy them. They would get rich together.
“So, shouldn’t he be on Third Elder Uncle’s side?” Zhouzhou tilted her little head, full of confusion.
“Because he was bought off, someone paid him money,” Qin Lie explained, his expression turning grim. “However, at the time, his wife was seriously ill and in urgent need of money. That’s why he did it. Later, they came begging for mercy, and Qin Yan softened and wanted to let him go. But I insisted on sending him to prison.”
“Not long after, his wife committed suicide, and Qin Yan blamed me for being heartless.”
After saying these words, Qin Lie let out a sigh and looked out the window. His thin lips pressed tightly, and his eyes showed some pain.
Separated by a life, it was too heavy a burden, making it difficult to distinguish who was right and who was wrong.
These years, he had been thinking about this matter.
Was he really too heartless back then?
Seeing his cold profile, Zhouzhou felt sorry for him. Suddenly, she reached out her chubby little hand and grabbed his face, pressing her small head against his face.
Her face was round and soft, radiating warmth, which made Qin Lie slightly stunned.
Then, the little girl said, “Dad didn’t do anything wrong. The bad person is the one who did bad things. When you do bad things, you deserve punishment. It was his own fault that he harmed others, and his wife died because of him. It has nothing to do with Dad. Third Elder Uncle is silly, let’s not care about him.”
As she spoke, she pouted with some annoyance.
If she had known this earlier, she wouldn’t have helped him!
Why should Dad be blamed? He didn’t instruct the bad person to do bad things. Third Elder Uncle couldn’t distinguish right from wrong!
Thinking about this, she felt even more sorry for him. She sat up, hugged his head, and gently caressed his head, soothingly saying, “Dad, don’t be angry. It’s not worth getting angry over someone like that. Let’s not care about Third Elder Uncle. He’s silly!”
Her actions came suddenly, and Qin Lie wasn’t prepared. The muscles in his neck tensed up, and he couldn’t help but let out a hiss. He wanted to move away, but his head was pulled, and he couldn’t escape.
The feeling of fate strangling his throat was something he had never experienced with anyone else. Zhouzhou was the first to do it.
He was afraid of being angered to death by Qin Yan, but he was pressed to death by his own daughter first. Unfortunately, Zhouzhou hadn’t noticed yet. When she heard his voice, she hugged him even tighter, rubbing her little head against his, comforting him, “Dad, don’t be sad. I’ll always be with you.”

Her thoughtful words softened Qin Lie’s heart, and the suppressed emotions were completely gone with her antics. He struggled and said, “Zhouzhou, my neck hurts.”
As he spoke, he scratched her tummy, making Zhouzhou giggle. Instinctively, she leaned back a little, and Qin Lie reached out to support her back to prevent her from falling.
Finally, his head was freed, and he rubbed his neck, chuckling, “Are you trying to kill your own dad?”
Only then did Zhouzhou realize and slapped her forehead, “Sorry, Dad, I forgot I’m strong now.”
She scratched the back of her bare head a bit awkwardly and leaned over, trying to please him, “Then I’ll give Dad a lullaby.”
As she spoke, she puffed her cheeks and blew on his neck.
Qin Lie found it funny but couldn’t be angry. He held her, opened the door, and put her back in the back seat, fastening her seatbelt. “Let’s go, let’s go home.”
“Yay!” Zhouzhou cheered and didn’t mention Qin Yan anymore.
That night, Qin Lie was sitting by the bedside reading a book when he suddenly heard a knock on the door. He looked up and saw a round little head peeking in, fumbling and not knowing what it was doing.
“Come here.”
“Coming.” Zhouzhou responded but didn’t immediately come in. Instead, she lingered at the door for a while, put something on her head, and then walked in.
Qin Lie was drinking water, and when he saw her appearance, he spat out the water.
“Cough cough cough.” He coughed for a while before suppressing the coughing and looked at the little girl. His mouth twitched involuntarily, “Zhouzhou, what are you doing?”
Zhouzhou had a bow tied to her head, as if it had been taken from a gift box.
The ribbons on both ends looped around her chubby cheeks and were tied under her chin. The tightness of the bow made her chubby face look even plumper.
The little girl ran in a flash, dragging the bedsheet. She kicked her short legs and arched her butt, then quickly climbed up, skillfully pulled open the blanket, and burrowed in. She rubbed her head against his chest before looking up and saying, “Dad, I’m giving myself as a gift to you. Don’t be sad, I’ll always be with you.”
After speaking, her lotus-like arms tightly hugged him, and she mumbled “not sad” in her mouth.
Qin Lie was stunned for a while before realizing that the little girl was trying to comfort him.
For a moment, mixed emotions surged in his heart. He looked at Zhouzhou and felt that the cold and hard chamber of his heart was gently knocked open by the little girl.
He chuckled softly, his expression joyful, and reached up to touch the bow on her head. “Can I unwrap the gift now?”
“Yes, you can.” Zhouzhou said in a soft voice, tilting her chin up to reveal the knot underneath.
Qin Lie smiled and untied the knot, using his fingertips to touch the red mark left on her face by the bow.
Zhouzhou didn’t mind, and she nestled into his arms. “From now on, I belong to Dad. I will definitely listen to you! I won’t let you be sad!”
Earlier, when she lay on the bed, she grew angrier the more she thought about it.
Her Dad was so good, yet Third Elder Uncle got angry at Dad because of someone who had harmed him. Dad must have been so sad.
So she decided to cheer him up!
“Is Dad feeling better now?”
“Mm.” Qin Lie smiled satisfactorily, his face full of joy. “Much better, very happy.”
With such a little daughter, he felt content.
There’s no one as thoughtful as a little daughter, not even a silly brother.
He stared at her for a while, seeing that he was truly smiling, Zhouzhou finally breathed a sigh of relief and patted her little chest, saying, “Dad, don’t be sad. I’ll share all my big brothers with you!”
As she spoke, her little buttocks were lightly slapped, and she exclaimed, “Ouch!” She touched it with her hand, looking pitifully at him.
Qin Lie smiled faintly and said, “Aren’t your big brothers my nephew? Why do you want to demote them for me? Or do you want to be my little sister?”
It seemed inappropriate, and Zhouzhou tilted her head and thought for a moment. “Then I’ll still be Dad’s daughter.”
As she said that, she spread her arms and legs, plopped onto him, and confidently declared, “Dad, put me to sleep!”
This was what Dad should do.
Seeing her like this, Qin Lie chuckled lightly, and his big hand touched her forehead, then gently patted her back. “Alright, I’ll put you to sleep.”
His voice was full of indulgence.
Zhouzhou nodded satisfactorily, closed her eyes, and fell asleep in just three seconds. The sound of her soft snoring filled the air, and she slept soundly.
Qin Lie looked at her, and his brows and eyes softened.
After a while, he looked at his phone, and his face gradually darkened. He raised his hand and sent a message…
