Chapter 960: The Toxic Master Alva
The car continued on its journey, and after a while, Zhouzhou felt like she was being transported onto an airplane. She closed her eyes and had a peaceful nap. When she woke up, she realized she was no longer on the plane but was in another car, traveling for some time. Eventually, she and Lu Shi were pulled out of the vehicle.
“Already here?” Zhouzhou thought, feeling a bit confused. She hadn’t smelled the usual salty sea breeze. Instead, she could hear the sound of a car engine. Shouldn’t they be on an island?
However, sensing the many surveillance cameras around, Zhouzhou dared not open her eyes. Not long after, a person walked out from inside.
“Why are there only two of them?” the person asked.
“Let Dr. Alva use them first. We’ll go get more later,” came the reply.
“Fine,” the person agreed reluctantly, but still led them inside.
Lu Shi’s heart skipped a beat. Alva? Wasn’t that the Toxic Master ranked ninth on the Dark Web’s leaderboard? This wasn’t supposed to be the place where Ye Lingfeng’s plan would bring them together at the end. Why were they here now?
A sense of foreboding filled his chest. As he prepared to send a message to warn the others, someone stepped forward and confiscated their phones. Even Zhouzhou’s smartwatch was taken from her.
“Lock them up for now,” they heard a voice instruct.
“Understood.”
Soon, they were handed over to someone else, led through a maze of corridors, and finally thrown into a room. As soon as they stepped inside, both Zhouzhou and Lu Shi nearly choked from the intense smell.
The air inside was thick with toxic gas. Zhouzhou’s eyes widened, and she immediately held her breath.
Quickly, while the guards weren’t paying attention, Zhouzhou took out a breath-holding talisman and placed it on both her and Lu Shi’s bodies. Instantly, the toxic gas no longer entered their lungs.
However, the effect wouldn’t last long. Moreover, Zhouzhou could feel the cameras watching them. She might not even have time to use a second talisman if things got worse. If that happened, they only had ten minutes at best.
Lu Shi felt an anxious stir in his heart. The plan had already gone awry. He hadn’t expected to be brought to a research facility where Alva was present. Everything was falling apart. They could only wait for the right opportunity.
If things became desperate, they’d have to break out and fight their way out. But if they made a move now, they would only draw more attention. Getting in later would be even harder.
Trouble was ahead.
Zhouzhou’s little mind was also working at full speed, her thoughts running parallel to his. She squeezed her little fists and, finding that she still had strength, felt a bit more at ease.
Just as the talisman was about to lose its effect, a slow voice sounded from behind them.
“Bring them out.”
He seemed quite confident in his toxic gas, as if it had only been a few minutes since he had released it.
Zhouzhou and Lu Shi were dragged out of the room. Zhouzhou felt the numbing effects of the gas beginning to fade, and, thinking the anesthetic had worn off, she slowly opened her eyes, feigning confusion.
“Where are we? Daddy! I want Daddy!” Zhouzhou cried, struggling against her captors.
Lu Shi also “came to” and shouted angrily, “Who are you people? Let us go!”
The person dragging them snickered. “Stop shouting. When you die, we’ll let you go.”
“You’re lucky to be here. Dr. Alva has developed a new drug that can enhance human abilities a hundredfold. This is a great blessing for mankind.”
“You two are fortunate to be the first experimental subjects. Be grateful.”
Zhouzhou blinked in confusion. She didn’t understand what they were saying. “They’re bullying me for being illiterate!” she thought indignantly. “When I get back, I’ll definitely learn more languages. Otherwise, every time we go on a mission, I’ll just be a helpless fool.”
Lu Shi understood very clearly what they were talking about. His fists clenched tightly as he exchanged a look with Zhouzhou. “We have to get out of here. This is too dangerous.”
The drug they were talking about wasn’t just any poison. It was something that would alter human genetics. He thought they were only researching toxic substances, but it turned out they were aiming to change humanity itself.

What a “blessing”—this was nothing short of human extinction!
Chilled by the thought, Lu Shi couldn’t help but feel a sense of dread.
Zhouzhou noticed a man being brought in just as Lu Shi was making his silent plans. Her eyes widened in shock.
It was Jing Bai!
But unlike Zhouzhou and Lu Shi, who had been knocked unconscious and brought in, Jing Bai walked in on his own two legs.
When he saw Zhouzhou, he gave her a quick glance before turning his eyes away, as if he didn’t recognize her.
The people around him showed him great respect, almost to the point of flattery.
“Dr. Jing, please come in,” they said, bowing.
Soon, a man in a white lab coat, probably in his fifties, walked out of a room. His eyes were dark and cold, like a snake’s. When he saw Jing Bai, his face broke into a smile, and he rushed over to shake Jing Bai’s hand.
“Jing, you’re here,” he said with enthusiasm. “I told you, this place is more suitable for you. What could you have achieved in Hua Country? It’s only by working with me that you’ll truly reach your full potential. After all, I created you.”
Jing Bai’s face remained expressionless as he stared at Dr. Alva. He gave a faint nod and said flatly, “Let’s begin.”
“Very well,” Dr. Alva responded eagerly. “Let me show you my latest research.”
Without another word, Dr. Alva clapped his hands, and the curtains of a room were drawn up, revealing a transparent window. Inside, Zhouzhou and Lu Shi could clearly see what was happening.
Their pupils constricted, and their fists tightened in response.
Inside the room, a Chinese man stood still as a scientist in a white lab coat injected a strange liquid into his body. The man immediately let out a scream of agony, his cries echoing through the entire research facility.
None of the observers seemed afraid, nor did they pity the man. Instead, their eyes gleamed with excitement, as if watching a beast about to break free.
The man’s veins bulged as the pain intensified. With a roar, he slammed his hand onto a nearby table, smashing it with a single strike. He was just getting started. Grabbing an instrument, he hurled it across the room with destructive force. Even an iron bed was torn in half.
When there was nothing left to smash, he grabbed the bed leg and bent it as if it were made of clay, crushing it with ease.
Zhouzhou felt her heart race, but it wasn’t from admiration. It was from sheer shock.
This behavior was completely unnatural, far beyond any human’s capacity. It was the kind of madness only induced by something truly horrifying.
She didn’t understand their scientific principles, but she could feel the death looming in the air. The man’s face had gone dark, and death was quickly approaching him.
Zhouzhou gritted her teeth, ready to rush in and help, but Lu Shi suddenly grabbed her arm and shook his head.
It was too late.
He looked up, and Zhouzhou’s heart sank. A sense of unease washed over her.
They had only just started the battle…
