Chapter 968: Untrustworthy
As Zhouzhou spoke, she stared at him eagerly.
However, Jing Bai shook his head. “He won’t keep his word.”
That person was a complete villain.
All the noble qualities of humanity were a joke to him, and he could break promises without any guilt or hesitation.
Zhouzhou understood. She puffed up her cheeks, looking displeased. “He should be sent to kindergarten! At least there, the kids know that when you say something, you have to keep your promise, or else you’ll end up being a dog. And he’s an adult, yet he acts like this. It’s too much! What a disgrace to adults!”
She made a vow right then, never to be like that kind of adult. It was just so annoying.
Lu Shi thought for a moment and then said, “We’ll first deal with the signal tonight, then contact the boss.”
With Ye Lingfeng involved, their chances of success would increase. If worst came to worst, they could just shoot Alva. After all, he had to die, or the lives lost because of him would be countless.
A murderous glint appeared in his eyes as he thought of this.
Zhouzhou clenched her little fists. “That’s right! Let’s do it like that!”
She looked at Ancestral Master and said, “Ancestral Master, can you keep an eye on them from outside? Also, is the Concealment Talisman effective? Will it be noticed by him?”
“It won’t,” Ancestral Master replied confidently. “After using the Concealment Talisman, I purposely moved around him a few times, and his tracker didn’t react at all. Don’t worry.”
That reassured Zhouzhou. She sighed in relief. At least, in terms of metaphysical arts, they still had an advantage.
Ancestral Master seemed to agree. He didn’t dare to underestimate Alva anymore and floated out the door.
Heavenly Thunder above Zhouzhou’s head stirred, and it rubbed its hands together.
If worse came to worst, it could just strike him down with thunder. After all, Alva was already a villain, and there was no need to hold back.
It was clearly their final trump card.
Zhouzhou realized with some embarrassment that she hadn’t even thought of it. Well, she had no choice. It was always watching her, and she had to admit that she didn’t dare think of it too much.
By the evening, the laboratory was unusually quiet.
Zhouzhou and Lu Shi emerged with the Invisibility Talisman and Wall-Crossing Talisman. Zhouzhou added another Concealment Talisman, just to be safe.
That villain was too cautious, so they couldn’t afford to be careless. They had to be extra careful.
Following Ye Lingfeng’s directions, they quickly arrived at the location.
There, they found a small box. This should be it.
Lu Shi nodded, carefully checking their surroundings to ensure that Zheng Yu had disabled the surveillance. This area had become a blind spot. Only then did he begin working.
Zhouzhou leaned against her palm, observing. Inside the box were numerous wires that made her dizzy.
She shook her head, trying to stay focused. She wasn’t going to let herself be dizzy from this.
She couldn’t keep being illiterate, it was so uncomfortable. She couldn’t even speak, fearing that her lack of understanding would show.
Lu Shi only took a quick glance and confirmed the setup. He then raised his hand and cut one of the wires. Afterward, he reassembled the device and placed it back, looking as though nothing had changed.
“Zhouzhou,” came Ye Lingfeng’s voice through the earpiece.
Zhouzhou’s eyes lit up. It was done!

She couldn’t help but give Lu Shi a thumbs up. He was amazing!
Lu Shi nodded calmly. This was nothing; he had been doing this since he was three. There was no challenge in it.
After finishing, they didn’t waste any time. They took another round through the laboratory to inspect the surroundings more thoroughly.
Overall, there was nothing good here. Every research project was cruel and inhumane.
Zhouzhou’s fists clenched tightly. Just wait, in a few days, she would never let them get away with it!
Lu Shi’s expression had also turned serious. After a brief walk, they returned to the room.
“Dad,” Zhouzhou whispered.
“Mm.” Ye Lingfeng’s voice responded, calm and reassuring. “Don’t be afraid, I’m right here. Call me if anything happens.”
“Okay!” Zhouzhou nodded, a smile appearing on her face. With her dad here, she was not afraid of anything.
But then, thinking of the “test subjects” and the scenes Ancestral Master had described in Alva’s office, Zhouzhou’s smile faded.
Her little brows furrowed as she said, “Dad, we have to deal with all these bad guys, right?”
“Yes, we will!” Ye Lingfeng’s voice was soft but firm.
Then, Ye Lingfeng added, “Zhouzhou, help Jing Bai with his research.”
“Why?” Zhouzhou tilted her head, confused. Wasn’t Dad against it earlier?
Ye Lingfeng had opposed the idea of using Zhouzhou as a test subject. However, when it came to the experiment itself, he wasn’t fond of it either.
He believed that even if human genes were to change, it would happen gradually over time, through natural evolution. The laws of nature—survival of the fittest—would eventually lead to changes. To artificially alter them would have unknown consequences.
Moreover, all scientific experiments required test subjects. Jing Bai was no exception. What if he was wrong? Who would take responsibility for the consequences? No one could afford that responsibility. Every life was precious.
But that was Zhao Xinghua’s decision. He had promised that no tests would be conducted until success was achieved, and Ye Lingfeng hadn’t interfered too much.
Jing Bai was under the supervision of the Fourth Bureau, so he would have some restraint.
But Alva was a different case. He was a madman.
Ye Lingfeng had to deal with him first.
His mind raced as he explained, “Killing Alva isn’t the hard part. The difficult thing is that he is toxic—his blood is poisonous. Anyone who has tried to kill him before has died just from touching his blood.”
“So, be careful. Listen to me and stay as far away from him as possible when the time comes.”
He continued, “Also, Alva is extremely paranoid. I found out he carries a remote control that can detonate the laboratory at any moment. If he senses anything unusual, he wouldn’t hesitate to blow everything up.”
“The explosion could release dangerous chemicals, and the consequences would be catastrophic.”
“The only time he’ll lower his guard is when Jing Bai’s medicine is ready. That will be his most vulnerable moment. That will be our opportunity.”
As he spoke, Ye Lingfeng pulled out his 98K and gave a cold smile.
Letting him live this long was already too kind. If it weren’t for his daughter being there, he would have acted long ago.
Zhouzhou thought carefully about his words. It sounded so complicated, but she didn’t need to worry about it. As a daddy’s girl, all she had to do was listen to her dad.
“I understand, Dad!” Zhouzhou responded cheerfully, her face full of innocence and cuteness.
Hearing their conversation, Jing Bai glanced at her.
Hmph, a daddy’s girl.
