Zaol and Gregor stood on top of sturdy branches, watching the chaos they created from the side.

“I hoped we attracted a bit more,” Zaol said, sounding very regretful.

The thing was, the sight he was looking at was a small massacre of people, with quite a few people eaten whole.

Gregor looked at him, and then at the monsters rampaging below. “The war already started. We could not take too long.”

“Sigh, I know.”

About half a day after the declaration was posted, the two of them received new beast attraction potions to try out. They were asked to head out to attract monsters into the war zone. This was in exchange for a good amount of contribution points, of course.

The two of them were, unfortunately, way beyond the level cap of Town wars, so they couldn’t do anything directly against the enemies. They were more than happy to join in this way.

The thing was, Alterra’s clearing missions were quite intense, so there really were not enough monsters nearby.

To create a big enough monster mob to impact an enemy this size, interestingly, ended up being a bit of a challenge.

After some thought, the two of them sprinted to the edge of Alterra Town’s area of effect.

A Town’s area of effect—that was to say, where the town-level monsters stayed— was at least 10 kilometers. This was for weaker ones. Alterra’s was nearly 50 kilometers.

This alone was indicative of its strength.

At the same time, because it was wide, this meant that— while there may be an overall larger amount of ‘strong’ monsters in the vicinity—they were more spread out compared to other places.

So the two major powerhouses decided to go around this massive area of effect, gathering strong monsters in the area. Their path was to go around the huge perimeter of the area of effect, slowly heading inwards in a giant spiral.

As they reached the edge, they wore coats that were coated with Miss Althea and Grandmaster Hoffen’s improved beast-attracting potions.

They also lowered their auras, making sure their high levels didn’t scare off the monsters. This wasn’t completely effective, and there would be monsters that’d be scared away, which was why this gathering mission was more of a numbers game.

The additional they gathered, the more would be left behind.

That said, because they were so strong, they could go about in a leisurely pace and not worry about the monsters damaging them at all. They also could not go too quickly, because the wind and movement could dissipate the potion faster, decreasing its efficiency.

Beast Attracting potions lasted only a few hours, after all, especially ones that could attract monsters past level 20. If they spent so many hours gathering these monsters, only to have them leave when they were near the end would’ve been depressing.

Interestingly, this experimental potion did last a while longer than they expected (which counted as a successful experiment)!

Even though they still lost about half of the monsters at the periphery (mostly due to the stark level differences), this was already more than they expected. They didn’t know what Miss Althea and Grandmaster Hoffen did, but it was quite impressive!

Anyway, they ended up bringing in about a few thousand monsters, hundreds of which were past level 15.

This probably wouldn’t obliterate an army with so many level 30s, but it should be enough to cause them trouble.

As could be seen right now…

Crunch!

BANG!

“AHHHH!”

It was chaos in these parts. If the enemies weren’t fighting or getting eaten, they’d run away either to the array (which was blocked by monsters) or toward Alterra (which would contribute to some stampedes down the line.

The two looked coldly at the people being massacred.

As people who had grown up in this strong-eat-weak world, they had no pity for them.

Zaol shrugged, looking at Gregor. “Shall we go back to the defense?”

“Yes,” he said. “I’m sure the master would want to hear the effects of their potion, too.”

And they disappeared, as if they were never there in the first place.

Fargo was planning on staying underground for a while longer. Sadly, even that was not possible.

He felt the vibration of the soil, and his eyes widened. He immediately used a good portion of his remaining mana to push himself out, bursting from underground.

His eyes widened as a monster with sharp teeth appeared from below, and he used his legs to push himself into a different direction, barely avoiding the monster’s teeth.

CRACK!

He watched with wide eyes as the monster glomped the earth pillar he had just been on, destroying it in its mouth.

A digger!

Monsters that could move underground or fly above ground were generally quite strong. This one was past level 20!

Fargo cursed and landed in the crowd, quickly using his element to shallowly cover himself with soil before he got stepped on. Of course, the number of people running over him was bound to create cracks, and he could only grit his teeth as he felt the steps, protecting his body as much as he could.

He gritted his teeth and, with a bit of a struggle, created a wall in front of him. This fortunately caused most to actively avoid him, but the monsters behind made people either bump or jump over it.

The number of times he was kicked and stepped on—

Fortunately, the powerhouses they had weren’t so helpless so they were indeed controlling a decent portion of the monsters—or at least weren’t being eaten by them.

He could not attack Alterra, and getting closer would make him a sitting duck who could not attack in return. His best case was… to return to the array!

Pak!

He gasped when another foot stepped over him, and another pushed him to the side. However, it turned out to be a lucky hit because—

BOOM!

A cannon landed near where he was!

Fargo gasped and crawled back, ignoring the kicks and pushes behind him. He used his ability to help him slide back, not caring if he was using all of his mana.

BOOM!

Another one landed. At the exact same spot.

At first, he wondered if the Alterrans saw him among the crowd, until… he realized the cannons were attacking several areas consistently.

He didn’t even have the time to wonder why that was when he felt cracks and crumbles underneath him. As an earth user, he had stronger instincts when it came to soil, and he used all his mana to help him get out of the spot.

CRACK!

BOOM!

All of a sudden, the earth beneath people’s feet just collapsed, creating a narrow gorge in the middle of the mobs and consuming at least a few hundred!
