Chapter 1276: Flushed Away
BOOM!!

“WHAT—”

“AHHH!”

Hundreds fell down the gorge at least 3 meters deep. It spanned hundreds of meters away, and they didn’t know where it ended.

The only thing they knew was that it formed just within a hundred meters from the sentries, and this was where a lot of the Basset citizens were since most of their slaves were already in the front lines, attacking the walls directly.

Because of the tremor, more and more people fell, and they fell on top of each other.

Even if they were high level, gravity still did its work on them. Worse, there were small spikes all over the floor. While, for most people of decent levels, it wasn’t fatal, it sure hurt like heck.

“WHA—”

“HELP!”

The people gasped and couldn’t react fast enough. Some tried to push others off of them, but the reaction was a large pushback, making things worse.

A few were smarter and tried to get to the edge and climb up. However, before they could compose themselves, the ground shook again.

A torrent of water surged forward, slamming into them and hitting them like the fastest moving beast cart—except several times more powerful.

Water was greatly underestimated because of its fluidity, but its slap was no different from being hit by a strong half-orc.

In terms of force, it’d feel like there was a mini tsunami in there.

The power of nature was not to be underestimated, even if one was level 30, let alone the majority of the stronger victims were just past level 20.

Where did this amount of water come from? From the river, of course!

According to the future expansion’s master plan, another portion of the river would be redirected to certain areas for (future) developments. Some would be towards industrial and farming areas, while some would be redirected towards a few artificial lakes that’d serve as reservoirs and as leisure areas.

While preparing for the war, the Elders thought: Why not develop that in advance? They were going to dig anyway, might as well use it against enemy mobs.

Speaking of which, the Goblins really did a great job digging all that so quickly. They also followed the geologists’ calculations to a tee, so the soil wouldn’t cave in prematurely, and would cave in only when the required explosive force was met.

The little green ones were naturally given a lot of contribution points as a reward, making them very happy.

Anyway, since this development wasn’t going to be used in its intended purpose yet, they decided to use it in the battles.

In the Guia war, a similar trap was set underground. However, it was only those who were swept away—all of whom were now loyal Alterrans—who knew of this trap. It had never spread, so Fargo—unlike with most of their winning strategies—hadn’t been able to prepare for it.

The enemies would be flushed towards places a few kilometers away downstream (some slopes were artificially created) to where the future man-made lakes and reservoirs would be placed.

Of course, they wouldn’t be using this disgusting water for their own consumption (although they had filters, they mentally would still think it was disgusting). For the most part, they’d probably use it to water their farms and the like.

The water areas would be shallower as it neared the end, as how it was in nature. They also considered various things like sediment build-up and so on, to create a healthy ecosystem there.

The shallower end would also reveal more of the enemies, which could make them easier targets for the long-ranged archers positioned safely from the walls, though only if they proved to still be threats.

Anyway, most of the hundreds of enemies caught in this would be weakened or unconscious, and that was already enough of an effect for Alterra, who simply wanted to keep the enemies out of the wall.

Except for the people leading the wars, and except for people who entered the territory and caused damage, Alterra had no desire to take any more lives than it already had.

On the side of the river, Alterrans had manipulated the dams they had developed a while back. It was underground, so it was not easily manipulated by other people. A small river would just appear as the slope naturally decreased, which was what the enemies would see.

Using the principles of fluid dynamics, their physicists designed the dam to maximize the forces of water (if they wanted), even if the river was relatively slow moving.

Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".

The Basset forces were imbalanced by the strong current of water, and most of them were just focused on running away lest the gorge widened and took more people.

Some of them ended up being eaten by the monsters at the back, while the others squeezed forward, causing many to lose balance and get hit by arrows, sentries, and even cannons.

Fargo, who had barely avoided getting taken in by the water flow, saw the stupidity of these people and couldn’t believe they were making this so much worse just by being stupid!

“YOU IDIOTS!” he screamed. “Do you think you’re level five?! Just jump over the god damned gorge!!”

Many people did not like his tone. However, Fargo had indeed earned himself a position in the fighting forces, so a lot of the weaker ones followed him.

This was especially when, after they saw Alterra’s methods for themselves, something became clear: Their win was not certain—no, unlikely, if Fargo wasn’t there to lead the strategies.

So were the cannons that killed their weaponsmith? It was really powerful and could damage several people at once. If a person was less than level 15 and had damaged equipment, then getting hit by one meant they’d be obliterated!

Their rain arrows seemed to be endless, too, and they could send them every time they wanted to and every time an area was threatened.

How did they create such a gorge? Where did that burst of water come from? The river? Upstream from here was at least a kilometer away!!

The locals couldn’t fathom such large projects at all—especially from a territory they had always counted as inferior and ‘in the bag’!

Anyway, more and more people decided to jump over. Maybe the beasts running after them would fall or stop following, too!

However, as hundreds of people jumped over the gorge from different spots and areas, a rain of arrows hit them. Because they were scared, panicked, and mid-air, they became extremely easy targets!

Whoosh!

More and more people fell down from ‘air’, some falling to the running water, while some to the ground to be stepped on. Many of them had weakened equipment due to the mob attacks, so most of the arrows that hit them actually penetrated.

What made it worse was—

“Thanks for giving us easy targets, Fargo!” someone from the battlement yelled, using some sound amplifier, making sure everyone in the area heard his words.

“I knew you were on our side! Terran for life!”

“I heard you killed some weaponsmith there! Amazing!”

“Thanks for bringing us these easy targets!”

Fargo’s heart turned cold when he saw the suspicious looks some people were sending in his direction.

His eyes burned red with fury—he was so angry that he was speechless.

DAMN YOU, ALTERRRRA!!
