___

Whoosh!

“AHHH!” The man gasped as he felt an arrow hit the middle of his neck, plucking his spine. He fell down and shook.

“Digong!!” the teammates yelled, but arrows—now from different areas— whooshed in and hit more people. This time, it wasn’t just Kimmy, but other houses (evacuation houses tended to be grouped together, too) had also started shooting.

At this, no one cared about Digong’s life and death anymore and they tried finding hiding places. However, this was the area of houses that were occupied by groups of people so they could not go inside any of the houses.

While their defense equipment cracked, some arrows embedded into them, some could only flush their bodies against the walls and hide under the balcony to limit visibility to them. Sure enough, the archers did focus on the easier targets.

Many people cursed. If they stayed, people in houses would target them, if they headed to the open areas, they’d be vulnerable to the sentries.

Then, these people decided to just climb up the houses—after all, after a certain level, it wasn’t difficult to just jump up the balcony. However, these people would be specifically targeted, which was why no one had done it so far.

At this, someone bellowed. “OI! SOME GET INSIDE BALCONIES! DO YOU THINK THEY’LL BE ABLE TO SHOOT DOWN ALL OF US?!” one said, though he was snugly hiding as much as he could under the balcony.

He was right, though. If all of them went up, then it’d be easier to deal with these people so much weaker than they were, but who would do it first? That was practically volunteering to be the shield.

However, their few seconds of delay caused by them waiting for others was enough for the guard team to arrive.

The guard team gave them no more time to react, immediately handling them.

“AHHH!”

“GAHH!”

Slash! Bang!

While fights went on around him, Digong was laying on the floor face first. His eyes were open and his mouth was, croaking, trying to utter something, but he was in too much pain.

Unfortunately for him, the arrowheads were poisoned.

Kimmy specially bought it from Miss Althea after paying a lot.

At some point, Digong, amidst the chaos, was kicked while his team was escaping here and there. He ended up rolling nearer Kimmy’s house.

He was stepped on, but he couldn’t move, and he was also feeling the burning of his insides. He groaned, and he could only stay still even as he was kicked around, slowly losing consciousness under the intense pain.

Then he was kicked again. This time, near the walls. He didn’t even hear footsteps approaching him until they were right next to him.

He used his remaining energy to look up, and his eyes widened when he saw who it was.

And then he was no more.

…

The evacuation houses (also known as communal hiding spaces) were concentrated in areas either near the walls, or near the center.

The territory was not small and the population weren’t uniformly strong (so it was impossible for every house to safely have an occupant to guard it). Further, this would help the guards have more targeted places to head to if a flare were lit up.

There were also several archers below level 10 in these homes. The enemies were too strong for them to be on the front line, but they were determined to contribute one way or another.

Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".

Anyway, the interior sentries were shooting arrows every second, with someone at the ballista bolt adding more damage. The roof archers were also starting to concentrate where the leaks were, so more and more deadly arrow showers fell on them.

However, there could only be so many shots each time—not to mention many had managed to hide behind the structures, so a lot of enemies still managed to pass through.

It got especially troublesome when the level 30s started appearing, including those who had been hiding.

Like in other places, the people from the balconies also targeted them, but a lot of these people were high-levelled—for instance, the level 30s—so Class D weapons had limited damage to them, particularly if they had similarly-ranked defense equipment, though the attacks greatly lowered the equipments’ durabilities.

However, unlike in other areas, Level 28 strongmen and above didn’t hesitate to attack the buildings—whether it was to throw things into the openings, or directly enter themselves.

The powerful ones could not scale walls, but they could jump high, so those in the balconies got attacked as well.

Chaos exploded in the area, and many of the balcony attackers were forced to hide inside their homes.

BANG!

System houses and manual construction here were much sturdier than in Terran, but the current enemy forces here were also stronger. The designated houses had reinforced doors, but if the enemy was quick enough, then they’d be able to cause trouble in time.

Further, continuous direct hits from a level 30 could definitely cause some damage. Not to mention, there were weak spots like the fenestrations. People tended to attack through these fenestrations. If the enemy elites managed to grab an opening before it closed, then it was fair game.

Some elites created openings forcefully, too, which made the Alterrans gasp.

Cracks formed on the youli stones, the doors, and the windows, and more access to the usually ‘safe’ houses had been created.

While fighting, the Alterrans saw how many buildings gained cracks. This made people’s eyes turn red, completely indignant.

“Damn it!”

“How dare they damage our houses!!”

“BASTARDS!”

These people in particular were targeted by the ballista bolts from the sentries if they could reach, but the people in the houses had definitely lowered their attacks.

Many braved through, however, even if it meant the enemies would target their house next.

Even if it meant they would be in danger!

…

“AHH!” a level 27 enemy yelled as a big arrow embedded in his thigh. He had just broken his equipment from all the arrow rain and was now taking some damage.

“ORCSHIT!” he bellowed. Annoyed, he jumped up the 2-meter-high balcony. The occupants screamed and immediately ran to the balconies.

However—to the occupants’ chagrin—the man managed to grab the door’s leaf in time, keeping it open.

He was very annoyed, particularly because a few of the arrows had passed through his pants and embedded in his leg.

Worse, another arrow hit while he was jumping up to the balcony, and when he landed, the muscles squeezed on it and made it even more painful.

When he pulled it out, he screamed like a pig, realizing the arrows had a lot of hooks and took a lot of his skin and muscles!!!

“YOU WEAKLINGS DARE TO HURT ME?!” He screamed, lunging forward to the doors, regardless of whether they were the ones who shot those arrows.

He immediately entered the house and pulled the door, shutting it close.

Who cares for the mission? He’ll massacre these people first!
