Chapter 1293: Alterrans Fighting (Part 1)
While the enemy team here was preoccupied with either hunting for Loki or trying to run away from his shots, his other teammates were going around and finishing off the weakened enemies.
For instance, when someone was crawling to safety, hurt by poisonous arrows, an Alterran would jump above and behead him. It can be a bit brutal, though due to the level differences, so the cut was rarely clean.
Like, the Alterran might have to slice to and fro to cut through. It was a torturous death for the enemies, so to speak.
There were also plenty of foes who would sneak into the buildings to hide. For those people, they’d rarely bother with them and focus more on the direct threats.
However, as soon as they threatened the lives of their brethren, the civilians in the area would definitely come out in droves.
Although people in evacuation houses weren’t expected to fight so openly, they did gain a lot of courage through mob mentality.
It was said that people in groups believed they were stronger than they actually were—though, fortunately, in the Alterran’s case, they actually were.
Although they were all weak, perhaps half the level of their enemies, they could fight if they were together.
When a particularly strong, troublesome enemy noticed their movements, they’d run where the sentry had a clear view and then they’d use it to defend themselves.
A strong guard would usually be nearby anyway, and most of the time, because the enemy was outnumbered, they would focus on finding a temporary place to hide, timing their strike, rather than openly attempting to go on a massacre for revenge.
Among those in the Alterran mobs were a lot of goblins—which were the paragon of what it meant to be a ‘synergistic mob’.
The aborigines had honestly never seen the ‘rats’ used like this!
Speaking of the goblins, they had long wanted to contribute to Alterra during the wars! While they helped a lot by setting up traps and creating good hiding places, they also wanted to be on the front lines!
Their specialties were in digging and in hiding—but when they got to Alterra, they knew they could be even more than that, and they wanted to show it to others!
More importantly, they wanted to do more for their home!
However, they were just not strong enough, even after training along with the other Alterrans for the past few months. Considering the ‘leaks’ —especially those who had gotten past the easement guards—were mostly elites, it was too risky for them to be fighting directly.
Now that they could join the mobs, they were so happy to join in.
“ATTACK!” the little ones yelled as a group mobbed a person. The others did the same, and soon the enemies in the vicinity would be ganged up on by several people.
“Gahhhh!”
“Kill! Kill!”
“Let me join in please! I’ll stab their feet for you guys!”
“I’ll make sure to destroy their shoes!”
“I’ll pull their toenails!”
It seemed like the little green creatures let their wild side out today.
Anyway, because of the large level gap, there were about a dozen people handling a single elite. Even an average fighter of level 15 from Basset had to be dealt with by a handful of Alterrans.
Of course, they still held on to their shields, with each mob having one or two professional shieldsmen and the rest having good physical potential to hold on to their shields despite the force that they’d inevitably take on.
They surrounded the person with a few shields, and they would be closing in on the enemy under the cover of their shields, attacking them between the gaps. It was the standard strategy Alterra employed when its weaker citizens had to deal with stronger enemies.
They would often form at least two layers of people behind the shields to make sure the enemy would have a hard time escaping their shield envelope by using brute force.
Different weapons poked through the gaps and targeted the single person enveloped in this shield circle. They did their best to chip the person’s defense—whether it was their equipment or their bare skin.
Although most people didn’t have full-body defense equipment (i.e. so not all parts of their body actually had defense equipment), the level gap made it so that even if someone stabbed a person’s neck, it might not go through.

It never stopped the Alterrans from wildly poking at the enemy though. Like defense equipment, the skin would also have durability and it was bound to bleed someday!
Easier said than done, of course. It wasn’t like their targets were just standing there to be poked. The enemies struggled, using brute force to barrel on a side, over and over, hoping to create an opening.
Sad for them, Alterran’s numbers within the walls were pretty big. Further, hundreds of Basset forces might’ve entered Alterra, but they managed to do so from different areas. It was difficult to communicate, so each enemy group could only be so big. In contrast, Alterrans were densely grouped together and obtained the advantage in numbers.
So… whenever an enemy was targeting one spot in their shield enclosure, more people would appear to add a layer of defense, pushing the shield forward. If the shield got destroyed, it would promptly be replaced by another, and so on.
Alterra might have a lower population, but it’d never run out of basic equipment.
There were also those who had awakened their elements. They’d throw in their pitiful elements to cause even the slightest damage. In their words: It was better than nothing!
And so, in several ‘enclosures’, little embers tried to burn a person’s hair, a pea-sized water ball tried to get up a nostril, a small pebble tried to poke on someone’s eye, and so on.
Further, there were goblins in the team, so they could attack from a much lower height and were therefore more difficult to guard against.
And so, the enemies enclosed by shields were attacked on all sides and from all angles. Who wouldn’t get annoyed?! But what could they do?
They cursed and cursed—threatened to dismember them—but no one was intimidated at all!
Even if they went berserk, they’d just get more enemies on their backs, more pebbles in their eyes, and more tiny water balls trying to enter their noses!!
Someone even tried to surrender, but the moment the attacks stopped, he immediately lunged towards the cracked shield and tried to escape! He caused a few injuries, too. Fortunately, the person was captured by a guard and promptly killed.
However, since then, there was no mercy given to these people. They were determined to suffocate them within the shields, drowning them with their attacks!
The goblins were also great at spotting weak spots, hastening the process of taking down the enemies and reducing Alterran injuries!
“Their defense equipment is cracking at the back! Target those!”
“Their neck! A few more shots and it’ll be ruptured! Hit it! Hit it!”
“I’ll stab the back of his knee! It’s about to bursttttt! Gahhhh!”
Their voices were small and squeaky, but their bloodthirstiness surprised everyone.
“Whoa… they’re wild!”
Someone laughed. “Wild? They just wanted to fight for Alterra—like the rest of us!!” he said, using a few skills to stab at the damned aborigine when he managed to stab through one of the shields and injuring a friend.
“Who’d like these people who keep threatening our peace?!” he yelled as he gritted his teeth, using his remaining mana to send a barrage of skilled attacks.
Others nodded, pushing the shields forward, causing the enemy’s movement to stagnate, forcing him to directly take on the barrage of attacks!
“FOR ALTERRA!!”
