Chapter 111: Chapter 111: Suggestion Board
Professor Lu’s wife, who had been suffering from a chronic illness, died due to the lack of proper medical facilities.
Devastated by her death, Professor Lu vanished without a word.
Some said he had finally given up on humanity altogether, that he had gone to live in isolation somewhere far from the chaos of the world.
Su Jiyai, still just a girl at the time, had searched for him, asking around in the few places where rumors of him still lingered.
But there had been no trace of him. His absence left a gaping hole in her life, and for years she had been haunted by the memory of him, wondering if she would ever see him again.
That night a poster was pinned on the announcement board.
“Whoever can give the information regarding Professor Lu, will have their 1 year’s rent waived.”
Like every night Su Jiyai came out of her underground base and started to restock things in the supermarket.
The profits of 3 days were a glaring 10 million federal coins!
The gloom in Su Jiyai’s heart faded a little. She even started to sing the song she had heard in the antique shop. Money, money, must be funny~
(Author: In the rich man’s world~)
The success of the supermarket made her crave to expand the supermarket.
However, she suppressed her excitement and walked toward the suggestion board.
The reality was even though she had such a great power in her hand, she didn’t know much about the items needed in day-to-day life when she lived with minimal supplies for the past 19 years.
In the past 2 months, the system did present her with new items, but he couldn’t advise her on the things she should buy.
After the apocalypse, she hardly knew the types of food that existed before the apocalypse.
There were also times that she would forget the important items since she never used them in her life.
Like the stuff, a pregnant woman, an elderly person, or a newborn kid would need. Or items needed by a disabled man…
She was never in their position and hardly contacted them, so she didn’t know what she should stock in her supermarket to cater to those unique needs.
The system provided basic insights, but not the nuanced understanding of what each person required to survive and thrive in such a harsh world.
In her next dimension of hunting, she could try to find those items.
After reading the suggestion board Su Jiyai realized that a high number of suggestions were for fresh vegetables.
She didn’t understand as to why the system could make food containing fresh vegetables, but couldn’t multiply fresh vegetables.
The next most suggested thing was summer clothes for all age groups.
Though there were clothes in the supermarket, they didn’t have any variety at all.
The major disadvantage of the multiplier system…is that a sufficient number of samples are needed otherwise the result will be just the repetition of the same clothes.
If that happened then the base would look like some organization.
Su Jiyai chuckled when she imagined that scene.
One note on the board caught her eye:
Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".
“More diapers and baby formula. The last batch sold out too quickly. My wife needs prenatal vitamins too.”
Similar complaints were listed.
The last batch sold out quickly?
Su Jiyai raised an eyebrow.
She had set a limit to what a single individual could buy.
Every individual could only buy 4 of each item.
And the supermarket restock on its own.
If someone could still fail to buy items…it could only mean someone was hoarding the supplies before anyone could get to them.
This realization made Su Jiyai’s brow furrow. Hoarding?
In the apocalypse, it was to be expected, but she had set clear rules to prevent it.
If someone was gaming the system, they were exploiting a loophole she hadn’t foreseen.
Su Jiyai pulled up the sales records on her tablet, narrowing down the transactions involving baby supplies and prenatal vitamins.
Sure enough, she saw a pattern. A family with the surname Zhong would buy many items at once, exit the supermarket, and repeat the action.
This was the loophole. Though each individual could only buy 4 items, once they exited the supermarket and entered again their previous count was erased.
Each of the family members of the Zhong family would buy items to limit.
They have 7 people in their family. With the limit of 4 items per person, they could stock at least 28 items of each type.
On the shelves, there are only 30 of each item. This means they only leave 2 for others. If the limit was high, they might have left none.
This family mainly focuses on buying baby products even though they have no pregnant woman or a baby at their house.
Su Jiyai’s eyes narrowed.
She tries her best to be kind, but… some people take her kindness for granted. It’s alright though. She could deal with them and warn others.
What was the saying…ah, right! Kill the chicken to scare the monkey.
Moving toward the next issue, Su Jiyai realized she didn’t know about prenatal vitamins at all.
When she was hoarding medicines, she mainly bought medicines for colds, fever, headaches, coughing, injuries, etc.
What made her exasperated was…there was some other family who was following the Zhong family’s footsteps and hoarding medicine supplies.
Good.
Su Jiyai took a deep breath and moved to the next suggestions.
“Seafoods! If possible please get seafood!”
Seafood?
Su Jiyai frowned.
She had never eaten seafood in her entire life. But she had heard kids of rich families say, that they preferred fresh seafood.
Fresh seafood means aquatic animals like crabs and fish need to be alive till the preparation of food is done.
The system could multiply nonliving things but not living things.
Now she realized the grave problem.
[Host you don’t need to think about that problem for now.]
“Hm? No. I need to. One day you will leave me, right?” Though it was a question Su Jiyai sounded certain.
