Chapter 113: Chapter 113: Warning
There were murmurs in the rooms as people exchanged glances, some surprised and others outraged.
“I have been lenient until now, allowing everyone to benefit from what the supermarket offers,” Su Jiyai continued.
“But that leniency has been taken for granted. Starting today, stricter measures will be in place.”
She paused for a moment, allowing her words to sink in.
“From now on, the purchase limit will be tracked over a 24-hour period for every family. No one will be allowed to buy more than the allocated limit, regardless of how many people you send or how many times you re-enter the supermarket. Anyone found violating this rule will be banned from the supermarket indefinitely.”
The Zhong family looked uneasy, knowing that they had been caught red-handed.
“I will also begin monitoring the distribution of essential supplies more closely,” Su Jiyai added.
“Families who have unique needs—such as those with newborns or pregnant women—will be given priority access to certain items. But hoarding for personal gain at the expense of others will not be tolerated.”
The Zhong family consisted of two elderly people, one middle-aged woman, one middle-aged man, two young boys, and one young girl.
One of the young boys, named Zhong Xiao stood up and shouted,
“We are not at mistake!”
“Hm? Looks like the Zhong family have something to say. Then I will broadcast our conversation, is that fine?”
Zhong Xiao who was 19 years old and full of vigor said,
“Fine!”
Su Jiyai tapped a button on her console, connecting the audio from the Zhong family’s room to the rest of the base.
“Go ahead, Zhong Xiao,” she said
Zhong Xiao’s voice, full of defiance, boomed out,
“We were only following the rules! You set a limit of 4 items per person, and that’s what we did. My family has seven people—we didn’t break any rules!”
Su Jiyai leaned back in her chair, calm despite the accusation in his tone.
“Yes, technically, you followed the rules as they were written,” she acknowledged.
“But you also knew what you were doing. You found a loophole in my system and exploited it to hoard essential supplies, leaving others without.”
Zhong Xiao clenched his fists, his face flushed with anger.
“It’s not our fault others were too slow! We were just being smart!”
“Being smart?” Su Jiyai repeated, her voice taking on a sharper edge.
“Smart would have been ensuring that everyone had a fair chance to access the resources they need to survive.
Hoarding baby supplies and vitamins when your family doesn’t even need them? That’s not smart—that’s selfish.”
The murmurs from the other tenants grew louder as they listened in.
Some nodded in agreement with Su Jiyai’s words, while others just wanted to see a show.
Zhong Xiao’s grandfather, an elderly man with a stern face, interjected.

“We were just preparing for the future. In times like these, we can’t rely on handouts. We have to think ahead.”
“Think ahead for what?” Su Jiyai asked her tone now firmer.
“You bought supplies meant for babies and pregnant women—neither of which your family has. Instead of preparing for the future, you’ve actively made it harder for others to survive in the present.”
There was a moment of silence. The Zhong family exchanged uneasy glances.
“And for your information, I know that you are selling these items at a high rate to the people outside the base.” Su Jiyai said calmly.
The faces of Zhong Family members turned black,
“So what? Others are doing it too!”
This sentence brought shame to many tenant’s faces. Though their landlord had already warned them to not sell these items at an inflated price later, they still did it.
Some did it to earn extra cash and some did it for their survival.
“They know the limit. They don’t make it so others who genuinely need that product can’t have it.” Su Jiyai sounded stern.
“And I won’t tolerate anyone exploiting the suffering of others to turn a profit, especially when those supplies were intended for survival, not greed.”
Zhong Xiao’s grandfather, once silent, finally spoke up again.
“You think you can control everything in this base, Boss Su? You’re just one person.”
Su Jiyai smiled,
“I’m not controlling anything—I’m ensuring fairness. This base survives because we work together, not because some decide to play by their own rules. If we start allowing selfishness and hoarding, this place will collapse.”
The murmurs around the base grew louder as the tension thickened.
The Zhong family exchanged looks, unsure of how to respond. They were caught, and everyone knew it.
The middle-aged woman in the Zhong family, who had remained silent until now, finally spoke up, her voice shaking slightly.
“We… we didn’t mean to cause trouble. I know…our actions have negatively affected the base and I apologize for that…but…we truly have no way to survive.
We don’t have any superpower users in our home, my husband’s parents can’t move much. My husband has a lame leg and my children…they could at most fight against the zombie of level 1.
Before doing this reselling, we could only collect 5 zombie crystals a month. It was barely enough to rent a home.
Before shifting here, we used to sleep on the road. When we heard about the cheap rental price…we came here.
The luxury here gave us hope. The hope that we could survive. But after going hungry for 2 days…our hopes were dashed.
We are human Boss Su, even though we resisted the greed rising in our hearts at first, the mere thought of living a stable life was too much for us.
For me, Boss Su you are a god. I am sorry that we have disappointed you but we just wanted to earn a living while helping.
There are many pregnant women out of this base who are ready to buy baby products at a high price because, unlike the pregnant women in this base, they don’t have the luxury of sitting on soft bedding or giving proper nutrients to their babies.
Though our behavior is wrong and can’t be justified, we believed we were helping in our own way.” The middle-aged woman’s voice faltered, her eyes pleading.
