Chapter 117: Chapter 117: Discussion
“Good evening, Captain Liu Feng and esteemed guests. I apologize for not being able to meet you in person.”
The voice seemed to come from everywhere and nowhere at once, transmitted through hidden speakers around the room.
Liu Feng sat up straighter, his brow furrowing.
The voice was mechanical which made it difficult for him to understand who the other person was.
But from the information he collected, the base owner was a woman.
“My name is Boss Su, the one who oversees this base and its operations. I’m afraid I cannot reveal my face, my gender, or even my true identity for security reasons. As you can imagine, the world we live in now is fraught with danger, and my position puts me in a rather precarious situation.”
The explanation was smooth, almost rehearsed. Liu Feng’s initial disappointment at not meeting Su Jiyai in person turned into understanding.
But at the same time, the caution from Su Jiyai’s side seemed a bit too much at the same time.
“Why should we trust someone who hides behind a screen?” Liu Feng thought, but kept his face neutral, choosing to keep his doubts to himself for now.
“I understand if you feel uncomfortable,” Su Jiyai continued, as though sensing their unease.
“But rest assured, I will sincerely hear your offer. I simply cannot afford to expose myself at this time. You must understand that this base, and the secrets that protect it, require the utmost discretion.”
Liu Feng cleared his throat, taking the opportunity to speak.
“We understand, Boss Su. We were just… surprised by the setup. However, we appreciate the opportunity to discuss terms with you directly, even under these circumstances.”
“Good. I’m glad we can proceed,” Su Jiyai’s voice replied smoothly.
“Now, let’s get to the matter at hand. You requested this meeting. I’d like to hear from you why the military wanted to request a meeting.”
Liu Feng took a deep breath before responding. This was the crux of their visit, and he had rehearsed this part in his mind over and over.
The military is running low on supplies, particularly food and clean water,” Liu Feng began.
“As you know, most of the major bases have been struggling to keep up with the influx of refugees and survivors.
We’ve been forced to tap into reserves that were never meant to be used so quickly. We need a reliable supply chain to sustain the people under our protection.”
Liu Feng wasn’t the type who liked to beat around the bush. As a soldier who had fought with his fist and dealt with injustice with the fist, he lacked eloquence.
“That’s why we’re willing to negotiate land in exchange for supplies,” Liu Feng continued.
“The military controls vast amounts of territory that, quite frankly, we can no longer defend effectively.
These lands are mostly barren or too dangerous to cultivate, but with your resources, we believe you could turn them into something more… viable.”
These words meant that Su Jiyai wasn’t at a disadvantage if she bought the land in exchange for food.
“So, the military is willing to sell land in exchange for food and resources?”
Liu Feng frowned.
The tone in her voice made him uneasy, as though she had anticipated this offer from the start.
“Yes,” he replied carefully.
“We believe it’s a fair trade. You have the means to grow and cultivate what we can’t. In return, the land could serve as expansion territory for your base.”

Su Jiyai smiled.
Everything was going as she had planned.
“Sure. Then I would like to buy the land around my base. Does the military perhaps hold the land deeds of the surrounding area?” Su Jiyai asked.
Liu Feng relaxed when he heard Su Jiyai’s reply. To make the meeting go without any hitch he had already prepared an answer for every possibility and the land deed Su Jiyai might ask.
“Yes.” Liu Feng said calmly. “We own 80,000 square meters of land around your base. 20,000 square meters from each direction.”
Su Jiyai’s eyes brightened,
“What is the price per square meter you are going to ask.”
“The military wants 10 kg of rice per square meter.” Liu Feng said with a stern face.
Su Jiyai wasn’t surprised.
10 kg of rice in the apocalypse was worth around 400,000 federal coins.
However, for her, 10 kg of rice was only worth 1000 federal coins.
The total cost may not even exceed 80 million points.
“However there is one more request I would like to add Boss Su. We just don’t want rice, we also need other staple foods.” Liu Feng proposed.
His heart was beating loudly.
He knew the deal was hard to crack. Who in their right mind would pay 10 kg of rice per square meter? And on top of it, they want different staple food at every 1000 square meters.
The prices of per square meter of land had risen, because of which there was hardly anyone who bought land.
This was one of the reasons why the military couldn’t reach its peak.
“That maybe difficult.” Su Jiyais’ voice sounded.
Liu Feng clenched his hand,
“Boss Su, we-”
“However it’s not totally impossible.” Su Jiyai said in a calm voice.
Liu Feng and the other three member’s eyes widened in surprise.
Was Boss Su an idiot? Or did he hold a special corner for the military people?
Su Jiyai continued,
“But for now I can’t continue with the meeting.”
Liu Feng and the other military officer’s face fell. They knew it would be difficult for them to crack the deal.
No one in their right mind would agree to such a deal.
And they knew they might need to keep on traveling between the military base and Boss Su’s base for the next 2 months for the deal.
It may also be possible that Boss Su might never agree.
To think, they thought Boss Su would agree at the first meeting… was indeed wishful thinking from their end…
