Chapter 119: Chapter 119: Hospitality
“Yes,” Yuan Xin replied with a calm nod. “We want to ensure that your stay here is as comfortable as possible. Your meal will be prepared according to any dietary restrictions or preferences you might have.”
The soldiers exchanged glances.
This level of hospitality was unheard of in the apocalyptic world.
Most bases they visited barely had enough food to feed their residents, let alone accommodate guests with personalized meals.
“I don’t have any allergies,” Liu Feng said. “Just something hearty and filling will do.”
The others quickly followed suit, each expressing their preferences.
Yuan Xin noted them down carefully, making sure to accommodate any requests.
“Thank you, gentlemen. I will have your meals brought to you shortly.” With that, Yuan Xin gave them a polite bow and left them to their own devices.
After Yuan Xin left, the soldiers took a few moments to absorb their surroundings.
Wang Yi plopped down on the couch in his room and leaned back, letting out a long, exhausted breath.
“This… this is something else. I thought we’d be sleeping on the floor of some damp warehouse again, like the last base.”
Sun Hao chuckled from his doorway.
“Yeah, and eating half-rancid canned food. Remember that?” He shook his head. “This is a far cry from those days.”
Zhang Ping, still standing in his doorway, crossed his arms.
“Let’s not get too comfortable just yet. This could still be part of her strategy.”
Liu Feng nodded.
“He’s right. We still have to keep our guard up. But…” he looked around the room, “I’ll admit, she’s definitely exceeding expectations.”
Before they could discuss further, Yuan Xin returned with a cart laden with food.
The smell hit them immediately—a rich, savory aroma that made their stomachs growl in anticipation.
Yuan Xin set the table in each room, carefully arranging the dishes before stepping back to reveal the feast.
There were four main dishes: a tender braised pork belly that shimmered with a glossy sauce, a plate of stir-fried vegetables, a large bowl of steaming white rice, and a platter of grilled fish seasoned to perfection.
Accompanying the main courses were two soups—one a clear broth with chunks of tofu and mushrooms, the other a thick, hearty stew with pieces of beef and potatoes.
To top it all off, two desserts were presented: a sweet red bean pudding and a delicate fruit salad with slices of pear, apple, and orange.
Each dish had been prepared with care, the portions large enough to feed at least eight people.
The soldiers stared in disbelief at the spread before them.
Since the apocalypse had begun, food had become a rare commodity, and most bases rationed it strictly.
Seeing such a lavish meal laid out in front of them was beyond anything they could have imagined.
Wang Yi’s mouth hung open as he gazed at the food.
“Are… are we really allowed to eat all this?”

Yuan Xin smiled.
“Yes, of course. Please enjoy. You’ve had a long journey, and you deserve to eat to your heart’s content. If you need anything else, just let me know.”
With that, Yuan Xin left the room, leaving the soldiers alone with their meal.
Sun Hao sat down at his table, his eyes wide as he stared at the feast.
“This is… this is more food than I’ve seen in months,” he said, his voice filled with awe. “And it smells incredible.”
Wang Yi stared at braised pork belly in a daze and muttered,
“Am I seeing things? Is…is that meat? Ah! This entire meal should at least cost 1 million federal coins!”
Liu Feng, ever the leader, took a deep breath and nodded. “Let’s not waste it, then. Dig in.”
The soldiers eagerly began serving themselves, each one marveling at the quality and quantity of the food.
As they ate, the mood in their rooms lightened considerably.
The tender pork belly melted in their mouths, the vegetables were crisp and flavorful, and the soups warmed them from the inside out.
The desserts, delicate and sweet, were the perfect way to end the meal.
For the first time in what felt like forever, the soldiers were able to relax, if only for a moment.
They shared stories, laughed, and allowed themselves to forget the weight of their responsibilities for just one night.
As they finished their meal and sat back, fully satisfied, Liu Feng couldn’t help but reflect on the events of the day.
Su Jiyai had surprised them at every turn, from her hospitality to the sincerity she had shown during their negotiations.
The food had been more than just a meal—it had been a gesture of goodwill, a reminder that cooperation was still possible in a world so full of mistrust.
“I think…” Liu Feng said quietly, looking at his team, “We might actually be able to trust her.”
The others nodded in agreement, their hearts lighter and their stomachs full. For the first time in a long while, they felt a glimmer of hope.
“Captain, how about exploring the supermarket?” Wang Yi proposed.
Liu Feng thought for a while and agreed.
“Sure. We can digest our food too.”
He clicked his tongue reminiscing about the taste of the delicious food he just had.
If only he could…No!
Liu Feng shook his head.
Soon the four military officers reached outside the supermarket.
Liu Feng, ever the cautious leader, took a moment to size up the place before nodding to his men.
“Let’s go. But keep in mind—no unnecessary splurging.”
Wang Yi, however, was already rubbing his hands together, excitement gleaming in his eyes.
“Too late, Captain! I’ve been waiting for this!”
As they stepped through the sliding doors, the sight that greeted them was overwhelming.
The supermarket was unlike anything they had seen since the apocalypse began.
The aisles were fully stocked with neatly arranged goods—everything, however, Liu Feng noticed that there were no fresh vegetables or seafood in the supermarket.
To be precise…there were almost no perishable items.
