Chapter 137: Chapter 137: Jagged Scars
Tears welled up in her eyes, not just from fear but from the deep sadness of yet another betrayal.
She had thought, maybe, just maybe, Su Jiyai could be different.
But how could she? The world had never shown Huo Ning true kindness.
Bracing herself for the worst, Huo Ning slipped the pill into her mouth and swallowed, closing her eyes tightly as she waited for the familiar surge of pain to wash over her.
Her body tensed, muscles tightening, waiting for the burn, the agony she knew too well.
Seconds passed.
But instead of pain, a soothing warmth began to spread from her stomach, gently unfurling through her veins.
It was subtle at first, like the faintest touch of sunlight on a cold day, but it grew stronger, warmer, until it enveloped her completely.
The warmth wasn’t searing or harsh like the institute’s drugs; it was calming, comforting, like a soft blanket wrapping around her aching body.
Her breathing slowed as the warmth reached every part of her, from her fingertips to the tips of her toes.
She opened her eyes, confusion swirling in her gaze.
‘What’s happening?’
Huo Ning glanced down at her hands, the ones that had been covered in scars and bruises from the endless injections and beatings.
Her eyes widened as the skin began to smooth out, the marks of her suffering disappearing before her eyes.
The ugly purple bruises faded into a healthy flush and the puncture marks from countless needles dissolved as if they had never been there.
Her heart pounded in her chest as she sat up, staring in disbelief at her body.
She pulled back the sleeves of her cloak to reveal more scars, burns, and cuts she had accumulated over the years—but they were vanishing, melting away under the warmth of the pill’s magic.
Even the deep, jagged scars on her arms from when she had tried to escape the institute’s experiments were disappearing, leaving behind unblemished skin.
Huo Ning’s breath hitched.
This… this wasn’t like the institute’s drugs.
This wasn’t pain or suffering masked as healing. It was real.
She could feel her body healing, truly healing, for the first time in her life.
Tears, hot and uncontrollable, flooded her eyes as the realization hit her.
‘This is real. This is real healing.’
She sobbed, the weight of years of abuse, fear, and pain crashing over her like a tidal wave.
And in the midst of that storm, Su Jiyai was the calm center, offering her something she had never been given before—kindness without condition.
Unable to hold back any longer, Huo Ning threw herself into Su Jiyai’s arms, clinging to her as sobs wracked her body.
She cried not just for the pain she had endured, but for the hope she had thought she lost.
For the part of her that had stopped believing that anyone could truly care for her.

Su Jiyai was taken aback for a moment, but then her arms wrapped gently around Huo Ning, pulling her closer.
Just a few moments ago she could feel the girl’s aura becoming cold and now…
She felt the weight of the girl’s tears against her chest and the deep, trembling breaths that came with her sobs.
Huo Ning’s fragile, broken heart was finally opening up, and Su Jiyai could feel it.
Huo Ning sobbed into Su Jiyai’s shoulder, her voice choked and broken,
“I-I thought you were… like them… I thought… I was going to hurt again… but… but you’re not… you’re not like them…”
Su Jiyai patted Huo Ning’s back and her eyes moistened a bit.
Just how much has the little girl suffered, to be moved by such an action?
After 10 minutes, Su Jiyai realized that Huo Ning was not moving.
Has she fallen asleep?
Su Jiyai cradled Huo Ning in her arms, the girl’s fragile body feeling so light against her.
With every step toward the guest room, she could feel the rhythmic rise and fall of Huo Ning’s breath, signaling that she had indeed fallen asleep.
Su Jiyai glanced down at her peaceful face, streaked with dried tears but now relaxed, free from the tension that had been so palpable just moments ago.
As she reached the door to the guest room, Su Jiyai nudged it open with her foot, careful not to disturb Huo Ning.
The room was simple but warm, with soft bedding and other necessities.
If Huo Ning were awake she would have seen the Heaven she always wished for.
Su Jiyai gently laid Huo Ning down on the bed, pulling the blanket up to cover her.
The girl didn’t stir, her breathing still deep and steady.
For the first time in what must have been a long while, Huo Ning was at peace.
She looked so small, so vulnerable.
The remnants of fear still clung to her even in sleep, her brow furrowed slightly as if she were still waiting for something bad to happen.
Su Jiyai’s chest tightened.
She reached down and brushed a strand of hair from Huo Ning’s forehead.
“You’re safe now,” she whispered, though she knew the girl couldn’t hear her.
“I promise you… you’ll never have to feel that kind of pain again.”
Su Jiyai turned and quietly left the room, closing the door behind her.
Leaning her back against it, she let out a breath she didn’t realize she had been holding.
“System do you get any information regarding the Aurora Base?”
[No host. I was midway through the scanning process so when you asked me to teleport.]
Su Jiyai frowned.
“Write a notice. I want information regarding Aurora Base. Whoever can give valuable information will have their 6 months rent waived. No repetitive news is allowed.”
[Okay host.]
Su Jiyai took a deep breath, picked her bag up and said,
“System teleport me to the Aurora Base.”
[Host, I can analyze your emotions, and understand your thought process, but, you are not strong enough now. Even if you want to investigate, you need to know the exact location where experiments are happening.]
