Chapter 140: Chapter 140: Exchange Rate
She was smart, quick, and resourceful, but there were just too many of them.
And with every hit she landed, the zombies regenerated faster, their bodies snapping back into shape as though her efforts were in vain.
Her breaths came in heavy gasps, and her arms ached from the constant swinging.
She wasn’t sure how much longer she could keep this up.
More zombies were pouring in from all sides, drawn by the noise of the battle.
It was as though the entire base had become a beacon for the undead.
“System,” she panted, “I think it’s time… for a tactical retreat.”
[Agreed, Host. Shall I prepare to teleport you out?]
Su Jiyai glanced around at the growing horde and sighed.
“Yeah.”
Whoosh.
Su Jiyai was teleported back to her underground room. The toll of the fight which she didn’t realize before started to show.
Her hand and legs trembled, and the very next moment she collapsed on the ground. She panted and muttered,
“So weak.”
She has only recovered 75% of her strength.
Killing 10, level 3 zombies can be considered as great. But when surrounded by the horde of zombies, Su Jiyai realized how weak she was.
[Host why did you use your fire superpower?]
“Hm?” Su Jiyai sighed. “Well, seeing the hordes of zombies…I feel as if…my small melon size fireballs could hardly have any effect on them.”
She sat down on the cold floor, as the coldness seeping into her tired body was giving her a sense of clarity.
“In the final analysis…I couldn’t even protect myself if a war against zombies is started.” She muttered.
The system remained silent.
“How is the gold exchange process going on?”
[About that…]
“What?” Su Jiyai frowned. Her instincts were telling her that something wrong was about to happen…or was happening.
[A group of people are protesting…they have gone on hunger strike.]
“Why?” Su Jiyai used her thumb and her index finger to massage her throbbing temple. Just when she thinks everything will be alright a new problem arises.
[They think the exchange rate is too low…]
“As far as I remember one gram of gold can be sold for 10,000 points, is it still not enough? That is the market price…” She was baffled. “And why didn’t you tell me about this news earlier?”
[Host, you were busy with Huo Ning and fighting.]

“Next time tell me right away if there are such matters.” Su Jiyai said.
[Okay, Host. Host, do you want me to connect the monitor to the place where they are protesting?]
“Yes.”
Su Jiyai crawled to the chair and climbed on it. She was so tired that she didn’t want to move at all.
[Host, I’ve connected the monitor to the protest site.]
With a sigh, she glanced up at the screen as the scene flickered into view.
Opposite the reception desk stood a group of protesters, about ten or so, their faces twisted in anger.
They were crowded in front of Yuan Xin.
His tiny frame was rigid, but his expression remained calm, even in the face of their shouting.
“You can’t be serious!” one of the protestors barked, slamming his fist onto the counter.
“Ten thousand points for one gram of gold? That’s a joke! We demand at least a hundred thousand points!”
Yuan Xin’s eyes narrowed slightly,
“That is the market rate, and it’s fair given the current circumstances. You are free to exchange your gold if you wish, but we will not be changing the rate.”
Another protester, a middle-aged woman with a sour expression, crossed her arms and sneered.
“Fair? Are you kidding me, kid? Do you think we’re stupid? That gold is worth way more than what you’re offering! You and your capitalist boss are just exploiting us!”
Yuan Xin’s cold gaze swept over them.
“If you feel exploited, you are free to leave. No one is forcing you to trade your gold here.
There are many others who understand the value of what we offer and are willing to exchange their gold. You can let them through if you’re done.”
A man from the group snorted, crossing his arms as he leaned closer to Yuan Xin, clearly trying to intimidate him.
“Look at this kid, acting all high and mighty because he works for the big boss. Do you even know what it’s like out there?
People are dying for resources, and you want to give us scraps in exchange for gold? You’re just a tool for that greedy Boss Su!”
The others chimed in, echoing his words.
“Yeah, why should we sell our hard-earned gold for a measly ten thousand points? We’re not fools! Boss Su acts like she’s some kind of savior, but she’s just another hypocrite who wants to hoard wealth and power.”
“Exactly!” the woman spat. “She acts all high and mighty, pretending she’s helping us by setting up these gold exchanges, but the truth is, she’s just getting richer while we suffer.
It’s disgusting! We demand a hundred thousand points per gram, or we’re not budging!”
Yuan Xin’s cold expression didn’t waver. His voice, though soft, cut through their loud demands.
“Then don’t. Just move aside. Do you think everyone is as unreasonable as you? Boss Su is collecting gold at the market price and you are calling her a capitalist?
Let me remind you, the place where you are living has a rent of 5000 federal coins only. Do you know how much 5000 federal coins are?
In today’s world, 5000 federal coins can only get you a water bottle. But she provides you with nice, luxurious, and well-facilitated rooms for 5000 federal coins only.
Let’s talk about food. When the cup noodles were getting sold for 50 federal coins, you had no problem, you were enjoying it.
Why didn’t you complain that the price was too cheap at that time? Because you all felt that you were in an advantageous position.
But now, suddenly you feel as if the rate is not good enough and start to point fingers at Boss Su.”
