Chapter 143: Chapter 143: Institute
“This world doesn’t leave room for softness, not when survival is at stake.”
Su Jiyai continued with her preparation.
She was planning to go on her next dimension hunting by tomorrow and collect all the supplies for the extreme heat.
A day passed just like that.
The next morning when Su Jiyai woke up, she felt as if someone was watching her. In an instant, her sleepiness disappeared.
She looked around the room with sharpness in her eyes and met a pair of eyes filled with innocence.
The sharpness in her eyes disappeared, replaced with softness and she called out softly,
“Huo Ning? You are awake, did you have a good sleep?”
However in her heart, Su Jiyai asked the system,
“Did you place the veil on me and turn on the invisibility function?”
[Yes, host.]
Huo Ning nodded shyly at Su Jiyai’s question. Her innocent eyes held a hint of warmth as she smiled softly.
“Have you washed up?” Su Jiyai asked with a soft smile.
Huo Ning nodded again, her small hands clasped together nervously. Su Jiyai gave her a reassuring pat on the head before standing up and stretching her muscles.
“Good. Now, why don’t you go to the dining room and have your breakfast? I’ve asked the system to prepare something for you.”
“System?” Huo Ning asked with a confused expression.
Su Jiyai tapped her forehead and changed her words,
“System? No…I mean my…helpers.” Su Jiyai said with a nervous expression.
Huo Ning didn’t suspect Su Jiyai at all.
“Now go and have your breakfast.”
Huo Ning hesitated for a moment before nodding once more and obediently leaving the room.
She made her way to the dining area, where a steaming plate of breakfast was already waiting for her on the table.
The system had prepared a simple yet nutritious meal. Huo Ning sat down, her small frame barely filling the chair as she picked up the utensils and began eating quietly.
While Huo Ning finished her meal, Su Jiyai had already begun her morning workout routine.
After finishing her breakfast, Huo Ning looked around the empty dining room, wondering what Su Jiyai was up to.
She stood up and wandered, her small feet making light taps against the cold floor. Soon, her curiosity led her to a door she hadn’t explored before—the VR room.
As the door slid open, Huo Ning froze in shock. In the center of the room, Su Jiyai was engaged in a fierce battle against a tall, imposing man.
His movements were fast and fluid, his fighting style foreign and strange. Huo Ning’s eyes widened in panic.
Was this man one of the institute’s people?

Did they find out that she survived?
Were they here to take her away?
Her heart pounded in her chest as her protective instincts kicked in.
Without thinking, Huo Ning rushed forward, positioning herself between Su Jiyai and the man, her small arms spread wide as if to shield Su Jiyai from the looming threat.
“Stop!” she shouted, her voice trembling but determined.
“Leave her alone! If you want to hurt someone, take me instead! Just don’t hurt her!”
For a moment, everything was silent. Su Jiyai blinked in surprise, her body relaxing from its combat stance.
She watched as Huo Ning stood bravely in front of her, trembling slightly but refusing to back down.
With a calm tone, Su Jiyai called out,
“Auxiliary system, stop the projection.”
The man vanished instantly, leaving only empty air where he had stood.
Huo Ning blinked in confusion, her head swiveling back to Su Jiyai, who wore a soft smile.
“Huo Ning, it’s okay. He wasn’t real. Just a projection for training.”
Huo Ning stared at the empty space, her face flushing with embarrassment.
“I… I thought he was from the institute… I thought he was going to hurt you.”
Su Jiyai gently placed a hand on Huo Ning’s shoulder,
“You don’t have to worry. No one will hurt me here. And especially not you.”
Huo Ning’s eyes filled with relief, but she still felt a bit sheepish for overreacting.
Su Jiyai knelt down to meet her eye level, her tone soft yet firm.
“Your bravery means a lot to me, but you don’t need to throw yourself in harm’s way for my sake. We protect each other here, remember?”
Huo Ning nodded, her heart settling as Su Jiyai gave her a small, reassuring smile.
“Okay, now go back to the dining room and let me finish my workout.”
Huo Ning nodded but before leaving she didn’t forget to look around the room carefully. She was worried that Su Jiyai was lying to her and was in reality in danger.
Su Jiyai however mistakenly thought, Huo Ning liked the VR room and asked,
“Did you like the room? Do you want to practice here?”
“No.” Huo Ning shook her head.
After she left, Su Jiyai continued to train herself.
By the time Su Jiyai completed her workout, 2 hours had already passed.
After finishing her intense workout, Su Jiyai wiped the sweat from her brow, her body feeling alive and ready. She then took a shower.
She headed to the dining room, where her breakfast awaited, and ate quickly.
She knew she had to address the questions burning in her mind about Huo Ning’s past—particularly about the institute.
Once she finished her meal, Su Jiyai walked over to Huo Ning, who was sitting quietly, playing with the edges of her sleeves.
“Come,” Su Jiyai said, her voice calm but serious. “Let’s go to the living room.”
Huo Ning followed her without a word.
They sat down on the large sofa, and Su Jiyai turned to face the girl, her expression soft but filled with a quiet intensity.
“Huo Ning,” she began carefully,
“I need to ask you some things. About the institute… and what they did to you.”
Huo Ning’s body tensed at the mention of the institute.
Her eyes darkened, but she nodded, understanding that she couldn’t keep hiding from the truth.
“Can you tell me who they are? What did they want from you?”
