Chapter 148: Chapter 148: Rui Wang’s Brother

Fu Lin smiled sheepishly, guilt flashing in his eyes,

“Baby I am sorry. No more after this.”

Rui Wang’s eyes widened before her eyes turned red and she shouted at him,

“Why? Because I look ugly during pregnancy? Is that why you don’t want to make me pregnant again? Or is it that you have found someone else?”

Fu Lin wanted to laugh. After staying with Rui Wang for more than 2 years, he knew what her personality was like.

She wasn’t an unreasonable person. However due to her pregnancy now…she was going through mood swings.

One moment she didn’t want to be pregnant, the other moment she would caress her belly with gentle care, and right after that moment she would blame him.

Yet…to him, she was looking cute even when she was throwing tantrums.

“No. How can anyone compare to my beautiful Wang’er.” Fu Lin coaxed.

Rui Wang snorted but the corner of her lips rose slightly.

The scene filled Su Jiyai’s heart with longing.

Su Jiyai hurriedly shook her head and scolded herself for overthinking.

Rui Wang’s eyes lit up before they dimmed down and shook her head,

“No…No need…Boss Su.”

Fu Lin who already knew Boss Su was a woman, explained to Su Jiyai,

“She is not ready to take any healing pills, since she is worried about harming her baby.”

“Did she always have stomach aches?” Su Jiyai asked worriedly.

“No.” Fu Lin shook his head. Anger appeared in his eyes as he said,

“It was her brother…”

Rui Wang held Fu Lin’s hand tightly and shook her head.

She knew Boss Su was kind but in the end, they were nothing more than tenants and landlords. She wasn’t Boss Su’s friend’s. Why would Boss Su be interested in becoming friends with them, anyway?

Since Boss Su isn’t their friend, she wouldn’t be interested in listening to their pity story

So the best solution was to keep quiet and endure pain.

A forced smile appeared on Rui Wang’s face as she smiled,

“I… I’m fine,” Rui Wang forced out a smile, though her trembling lips and the beads of sweat forming on her forehead told a different story.

Her hand gripped Fu Lin’s hand tightly as if willing to endure the pain without showing weakness.

Su Jiyai, however, was not convinced.

Her eyes narrowed as she took in the pale complexion of Rui Wang and the discomfort that she was clearly struggling to hide.

“That’s not fine, Mrs. Fu,” Su Jiyai’s voice cut through the air, firm and authoritative.

“Stomach aches during pregnancy are never something to ignore.”

She glanced at Fu Lin, her expression softening slightly.

“I know a bit about medicine, and if you’re telling me that these pains have been happening regularly, it’s something we need to address. It’s not safe for either you or the baby.”

Rui Wang bit her lip, still hesitant to open up about the real issue.

Her eyes flickered toward Fu Lin, silently pleading with him not to say anything.

But Fu Lin’s resolve had already cracked; his worry for his wife outweighed any desire to keep their struggles private.

Fu Lin sighed deeply, his expression troubled. “It wasn’t like this before… it started a few months ago.”

Su Jiyai crossed her arms, sensing that this was not just a case of ordinary pregnancy symptoms.

“What happened?”

Fu Lin hesitated for a moment, glancing at Rui Wang who was still shaking her head in protest.

But the pain in her eyes, the constant worry she carried—it was too much for him to bear. He couldn’t watch her suffer in silence any longer.

Su Jiyai nodded, encouraging him to continue.

“I was injured badly—worse than we initially thought. I needed immediate treatment from a healer, but we were at a remote outpost, and the only healer available was being controlled by… her brother.”

Su Jiyai’s expression darkened. “Her brother?”

Wasn’t he the jerk who kicked out his dad and put Rui Wang, Fu Lin, and Rui Xiao?

Rui Wang squeezed Fu Lin’s hand, her eyes pleading again, but Fu Lin pressed on. “Yes. Rui’s brother… He’s not a good man, Boss Su.”

“He refused to help unless…” Fu Lin hesitated, guilt flashing in his eyes as he glanced at Rui Wang, whose face was now ashen.

“Unless what?” Su Jiyai asked, her voice sharp and urgent.

“He told Rui that if she drank a specific poison, he would release the healer to treat me. At that time, she didn’t know she was pregnant.”

Rui Wang looked down, her voice barely a whisper as she spoke,

“I was desperate, Boss Su. Fu Lin was dying, and I… I couldn’t lose him.”

Su Jiyai’s heart clenched at the vulnerability in Rui Wang’s voice. Her tone softened.

“So, you drank the poison.”

Rui Wang nodded, her face pale, but she quickly added,
