Chapter 202: Chapter 202: Pet
And what kind of abilities would these hybrids possess?
Her mind raced as she tried to piece everything together, but before she could fully process it, Dr. Mei’s voice cut through the air again.
“We’re running out of time, Pan.
We need to succeed before the higher-ups lose patience,” Dr. Mei said, her tone edged with frustration.
“And what about Lin Hao? Have we found his location yet?”
Su Jiyai’s ears pricked up at the mention of Lin Hao.
Was she in the institute that had held the Lin Hao capitative? Thinking of how Lin Hao was maybe her brother, Su Jiyai was filled with anger.
Did they still haven’t stopped in their pursuit?
“Yes,” the general said, his voice gruff. “My team has tracked him to Boss Su’s base. We have confirmation he’s been hiding there.”
Su Jiyai’s blood ran cold.
Boss Su’s base? That was her base! Were they planning on attacking it?
So they found out?
Dr. Mei and Dr. Pan exchanged a glance, their expressions hardening.
“We need to deal with Boss Su quickly, then,” Dr. Mei muttered. “Lin Hao can’t be allowed to escape us again.”
Su Jiyai clenched her teeth, her fur bristling with anger.
She had to do something. She couldn’t just sit here and let them make plans to destroy everything she had built.
She can’t let them take away Lin Hao, right?
Could she sabotage their equipment? Cause some kind of disturbance that would force them to divert their attention?
Dr. Pan’s voice cut through her thoughts.
“Assassins might be the most efficient method,” he suggested, his tone coldly clinical. “We can hire them to eliminate Boss Su and anyone else who stands in our way. That should buy us enough time to finish the project.”
Su Jiyai’s heart pounded in her chest. They were serious. They were really planning on hiring assassins to wipe out her base. She had to act fast.
Dr. Pan moved toward one of the machines, his fingers skimming over the controls as he spoke. “I’ve also discovered the cause of the extreme heat fluctuations recently. According to this data—”
He stopped mid-sentence, his eyes narrowing as they landed on the spot where Su Jiyai was hiding.
Su Jiyai’s heart jumped into her throat as she realized she had been spotted. Dr. Pan’s gaze locked onto her, and his expression darkened.
“Who let a cat in here?” he demanded, his voice sharp with irritation.
The room fell silent as everyone looked around in confusion.
No one seemed to know where she had come from, but Dr. Pan’s attention remained fixed on her.
“It might be a spy,” Dr. Pan said coldly, stepping closer. “We can’t take any chances.”
Panic surged through Su Jiyai’s veins as Dr. Pan reached out to grab her.

She leaped backward, dodging his grasp with ease, her newly enhanced agility making it easier to evade him.
She darted across the lab, her paws silent on the cold metal floor, dodging between the machines as Dr. Pan, the general, and Dr. Mei tried to catch her.
“Damn it!” Dr. Pan snarled in frustration, his face turning red as he lunged for her again.
But Su Jiyai was too quick, weaving through the equipment like a shadow, always staying just out of reach.
Then, without warning, a familiar figure stepped into her path.
Jake.
The vampire’s face was calm, his dark eyes glinting with amusement as he reached out and easily caught Su Jiyai in one swift motion.
His grip was firm but not painful, and he held her up at eye level, his lips curving into a wry smile.
“Gotcha,” Jake said softly, his voice dripping with amusement.
Su Jiyai struggled in his grip, her claws unsheathing as she tried to wriggle free.
She even bit down hard on his hand, her sharp teeth piercing his skin until she tasted blood.
But Jake didn’t so much as flinch.
He simply tugged her away from his hand and cradled her more securely in his arms, as if holding an unruly kitten.
“Dr. Pan,” Jake said, his voice cool and unbothered, “this isn’t a spy. She’s mine.”
Dr. Pan glared at him, his frustration evident.
“Yours? When did you get a pet? I don’t remember you bringing this thing in.”
Jake raised an eyebrow, his grip on Su Jiyai tightening slightly.
“Does it matter? She’s not a threat. I let her in myself.”
Dr. Mei, who had been silently observing the exchange, spoke up, her voice tinged with suspicion.
“And when exactly did you acquire this… pet?”
Jake’s smile didn’t falter.
“Not long ago. But I don’t see why that’s relevant.”
Su Jiyai blinked in surprise.
Was Jake… protecting her?
She had last seen him in a situation where he was more than willing to kill her. What had changed?
Why was he lying to Dr. Pan and Dr. Mei now?
Dr. Pan still looked unconvinced, his eyes narrowing as he stared at Su Jiyai.
“Even if she’s your pet, we can’t afford any risks. Cats have been known to carry recording devices in the past. We should kill her just to be safe.”
Su Jiyai’s heart skipped a beat.
Fear surged through her, and she bit down on Jake’s arm again, harder this time, drawing more blood.
But Jake simply chuckled and held her further away from his body.
“Relax, Pan,” Jake said smoothly, “there’s no need for that. She’s harmless.”
Dr. Pan’s eyes flicked to the blood dripping from Jake’s arm, his expression skeptical. “Doesn’t look harmless to me.”
Jake shrugged, a lazy grin spreading across his face.
“She’s just a little feisty. I like that about her.”
Su Jiyai’s mind whirled. Jake was definitely up to something, but for the life of her, she couldn’t figure out what.
All she knew was that, for now, he was keeping her alive.
Dr. Mei folded her arms, her gaze cold and calculating.
“Fine. Keep your pet. But if I see her snooping around again, I won’t hesitate to have her dealt with.”
Jake nodded, his smile never wavering.
“Understood.”
