Chapter 208: Chapter 208: Fake Gentleness
The general’s reflexes were impressive.
Even though the attack came as a surprise, he managed to dodge just enough to avoid a fatal blow.
The knife still grazed his side, drawing blood, but the general quickly moved away, clutching the wound with one hand.
His expression darkened, and his eyes flashed with anger.
He didn’t shout or panic. Instead, he lifted a single finger, pointing it at the soldier who had attacked him.
For a moment, the entire training ground seemed to freeze.
Then, in the blink of an eye, the soldier who had attacked him began to convulse.
His body stiffened, and within seconds, his skin started to shrivel. His face contorted in agony as the blood seemed to drain from his veins, his flesh collapsing in on itself as if his very life force was being sucked out of him.
It took less than five seconds.
By the time the general lowered his hand, the soldier’s body had crumpled to the ground, a lifeless husk.
Su Jiyai stared, her heart racing. She had never seen such power before—so quick, so devastating.
It was as if the general could drain the life of someone with nothing more than a thought.
Jake, who had been watching beside her, let out a low whistle.
“Told you. Five seconds. He doesn’t need to touch you. One finger, and you’re done.”
This time Su Jiyai was stunned.
She glanced at Jake, her thoughts swirling.
Could she trust him? He had guided her this far, but she had yet to understand his true motives.
Jake, standing beside her, seemed unbothered by the gruesome display of the general’s power.
His face was composed, as though this was something he had seen many times before.
It was unsettling how unfazed he was, even as he watched a man’s life drain away in mere seconds.
Sensing her unease, Jake broke the silence.
“You’re right to be cautious. I wasn’t exaggerating about the general’s powers. That trick you just saw? It’s only one of many.
I’ve heard rumors he has at least three different abilities. And that’s not counting his physical strength.”
Su Jiyai’s eyes widened. Three powers? Her mind scrambled to reassess the situation.
Her eyes flicked back to Jake, her suspicions growing.
Why had Jake brought her here, knowing the general was so powerful? What was his real goal?
Was he planning to hand her over to the general?
As if sensing her question Jake calmly said,
“If I wanted to hand you over to the general, trust me you would have died long ago.”

Su Jiyai: “…” Well it is true.
Without speaking, she pointed toward the group of soldiers training nearby, then mimicked the expression of someone in a daze.
Afterward, she pointed directly at the general, raising an eyebrow at Jake.
Jake immediately understood her question.
She was asking why he couldn’t use his daze ability on the general.
With a low chuckle, Jake replied,
“The general’s cultivation level is way beyond mine. My daze ability doesn’t work on people stronger than me”
Su Jiyai frowned, frustration boiling within her.
Too many things didn’t add up. Jake, for one, was an anomaly.
He was intelligent, cunning, and clearly powerful, yet here he was, acting as a servant for the institute.
Why hadn’t he tried to escape? What was keeping him here? It was clear that the institute must have some hold over him.
But for now, she couldn’t worry about Jake’s motives.
The general was her most immediate threat, and if she didn’t act soon, she might not get another chance.
As she was lost in thought, a sudden shout echoed across the training grounds.
The general’s deep, commanding voice rang out, his tone sharp with fury.
“Lock down the area! I want the CCTV footage from every corridor. Find out who caused this. Now!”
Jake calmly led Su Jiyai back to his room and asked,
“Now do you still plan to kill that general?”
Su Jiyai nodded her head with determination.
Jake: “…” So whatever I did was in vain?
Feeling helpless he asked,
“Why are you so hell-bent on killing him?”
Su Jiyai rolled her eyes. How could she not? He was going to attack her base. She was already tired of fighting against that unknown entity, now if she even has to fight against humans, how will she win?
So, now…as long as someone dared to appear as a threat to her…they needed to be dead or not be in this world to cause trouble for her.
Though it may sound cruel, if she remained kind-hearted she would die sooner or later.
However, she couldn’t tell her thoughts to Jake. Instead, she looked at Jake warily.
“What? Now you are even doubting me?” Jake chuckled.
Su Jiyai nodded her head. She was paranoid, however, her mind couldn’t stop thinking of the different ways Jake could betray her.
What if he was waiting for her to let her guard down, before handing her over to the general?
What if he agrees to help her kill the general, but in the end betrays her at a critical moment?
What if he knew her plan and then decided to betray her?
As for why he can betray her…maybe he wants his weakness to be handed back to him. Maybe the institute has captured his companion, lover, or daughter.
It could be anything.
Su Jiyai doesn’t want to gamble. If there was a situation where Jake had to choose between her and his weakness, he would definitely go for his weakness, right?
“You…” Jake pointed at Su Jiyai before laughing loudly, “I was right. It is a good idea to cooperate with you.”
Su Jiyai wasn’t the least bit surprised.
Heh.
She was doubtful of Jake, since the moment he started to be gentle toward her.
Saving her, pretending as if he truly cares for her, and warning her of the possible dangers.
Why would Jake who still wanted to kill her before, suddenly do such heart-touching things for her?
